New Inner Eyeliner (made for the waterline) from Merle Norman Cosmetics

I haven't used Merle Norman Cosmetics in quite some time, but when the press release for their new Inner Eyeliner hit my in-box, I had to immediately share it with you.

Even though so many of us use liner on our waterliners, very few companies seem to offer liners specifically created for the waterline. This new product from Merle Norman only comes in one shade (nude), but I hope there are other shades available eventually:

Merle Norman Cosmetics NEW Inner Eyeliner: Camouflage tired eyes with this new inner eyeliner in nude. Unlike other liners, this is designed specifically to hold up in the waterline and works to brighten eyes for up to ten hours! It features a multi-tasking formula and also works at brow bones and inner corners of eyes.  The uses are endless, just like the long wearing formula. The eyes are the first place to show signs of a sleepless night, so give them the boost they need!
$14.00 at local Merle Norman Studios nationwide. Click here for more information and locations in your area.

I love the idea of using a nude shade on my waterline to brighten up the eye (using white on my waterline, as suggested by many, made my eyes actually look yellow!). Have you ever used a nude liner on your waterline? Were you happy with the results? I'd love to hear from you!

  1. I usually use the Urban Decay shadow pencil in Sin on my waterline. I love the way it brightens and it lasts forever. I got it in the set that was on clearance at Sephora awhile back. Before that I used the Milani shadow pencil in Champagne Glow (I think?). It worked really well too!

    1. I have that UD pencil so I'm definitely going to try it! Nothing lasts on my waterline ever but thinking about the consistency of it, maybe it will work. Crossing my fingers!

  2. I've used the eye brightener by pixi (got it at target, I think). I don't like white on the inner rims either and this does the trick. Can't say it lasts 10 hours, though.

  3. I've heard fantastic things about the MAC Chromagraphic pencil in NC 15/NW 20. That may be my very first MAC purchase.

  5. Oh! I can't wait to try this! Fortunately I have a Merle Norman store really close to my house. But the only thing I've ever bought there was a limited edition OPI nail polish.

Thanks to the other ladies & their comments too, for their alternate suggestions.

  6. A lot of the beauty bloggers I follow use nude. I've heard Illuminasque makes a good one! It seems only higher end makeup companies are the only ones who make nudes because I haven't been able to find it at a drugstore.

    1. I'm 99% sure that L'oreal came out with some nude liners for the waterline either last year or in 2011. I remember doing a ”spotted” post about them and sharing pics of the display. I searched and couldn't find my post, but I think they were double-ended pencils where one side was black and the other end was nude. I don't really remember seeing them recently though, so maybe they were LE. :(

    2. Pixi @ Target has one! It's pricey for DS, but def works well, and I'm guessing its still a bit less than most dept. store nude liners! I think it was like 15 bucks or something.

    3. G, you are correct they did have double ended pencils... I have one but have to check to see what it's called I think it was in the double extend line and I'm thinking it might have been discontinued. I don't think it was limited edition.

  7. I tend to wear a darker color on my waterline because I tightline.. and find if I do both the upper and lower rim in the same color they last longer without bleeding into one another. However I have used Milani Champagne Toast shadoweyez pencil on occasion.. and it wears like iron. I agree that it is weird no one markets a "waterline liner", I tend to use specific brands there and completely different ones on the lashline since I think they need quite different characteristics to work well.

  8. Tarte makes a nude liner specifically for the waterline. It does brighten fairly well, but doesn't last too long. I'm excited to try this one from Merle Norman. I'm obsessed with their loose mineral foundation, so I'll have to look for this next time I'm there!

  9. I use the Tarte inner eye liner (it's nude but a very very pale nude) and the product is so soft it's hard to get a smooth line. It doesn't last that long, either, say half the day (or an evening out) and only if I'm not crying or having allergies. I hadn't thought of trying my Milani Shadow Eyez, I'll try that! But I've never even heard of Merle Norman before!

  10. I've used benefits eye bright on my eyes & like it... White just doesn't look right on me! I will def try this one too though:)

    1. I got the benefit one in a set and must remember to actually try it!

  11. I use the Tarte one and I LOVE it! Most dark colors make my eyes water when used on my inner rim, but I haven't had that problem with nude colors. I really like the look of a nude liner on my inner rim. It's very pretty. :)

  12. If I remember correctly, the FDA wasn't allowing cosmetic companies to list their product to be used on the water line as it wasn't proven safe. But, since I'm seeing more and more products that are specifically for that, I believe they have either overturned the regulation or, cosmetic companies got their thinking caps on and created something safe. Now, if I can find a liner that will stay put for at least 4 hours!!

  13. I love some of Merle Norman products, especially their powders. I'm going to have to go check this little liner out!! :)

  14. I wish I could try it, but my eyes are sensitive and get even redder if anything gets on the inner rim.

  16. I haven't tried this one but my sister has. She liked it but said it didn't really last long enough. She is prone to watery eyes though.

  17. I wish they would make this "inner eye" formulation in regular black so that I can use it on my regular lower lashline. I have watery eyes and nothing stays on my lower lash line outer corners without running, including Urban Decay 24/7 Perversion and Milani Lique'fy (or whatever its new name is now) in black.

    1. Try the Milani liquid eye liner. Only thing that stays on my lower lid. UD raccoons so fast...
I don't use the brush, and just a separate liner brush as it works a lot better.

  18. Mere Norman has some really great products. Their cream eyeliner will not budge once it is dry. My holiest of grail of all is their tinted brow sealer. It blows the socks off of other tinted brow gels (BB, MAC and Revlon are nowhere near as good). I need to make a run to my local MN again and check this eye liner out.

As far as nude eyeliners go, I've only used Stila's Kajal e/l in Topaz. It's very soft and easy to apply, but tends to migrate way too easily.

  19. I have the MAC Chromagraphic pencil and I like that for the waterline but it doesn't last too long. UD 24/7 liners last a little longer but I prefer something not so shimmery. I had a bad reaction with the Milani one which is a shame because it did last on me when it wasn't melting into my eyes like hot pokey tar.

  20. Has anyone heard of the new Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Liners? I've seen it mentioned from a few YouTubers, UK only :( I have been waiting to hear when they are going to be available here, because the Nude shade has been getting RAVE reviews and I want to try it so bad!

  21. I bought this liner last Sunday and I'm sorry to say it is a huge disappointment. First, I paid $18.00 + tax for it - not $14.00. I'm not sure why there was a price difference. I am assuming it is because Merle Norman stores are franchised and therefore each location must be able to charge what they want. Another reason why I think this is the case is because no product prices are listed on the Merle Norman website. Second, although the pencil is retractable, creamy and a flattering nude shade, it stayed on my waterline no longer than any other pencil I have tried. I liked the effect, but had to consistently reapply to maintain that same effect throughout the day. For these reasons, I will be returning the one I bought.

  22. @Bel -- just used the Rimmel Scandaleyes as a tightliner, and it smudged and flaked within hours. I was hoping for something better than that,.
