The Wednesday Question

This week I'd like to take a minute to find out something I've always wanted to know:

If you've ever purchased a drugstore beauty product because of one of my reviews (and it ended up WORKING for you) could you tell me which product you bought, and why you love it?

I love it when I hear from you after I post a review (whether your liked a product or not), but sometimes after I post my reviews,  I wonder how many of you have gone out, purchased the product, and ended up loving it as much as I do. Naturally, I'm sure there have been instances where you bought something based on my review and it DIDN'T work for you (nothing works for everyone and I completely understand that sometimes things I love aren't going to be a natural fit for you), but today I'd love to hear about anything you've seen here, tried, and loved. Thanks in advance!

  1. I purchased Phicia Formula SPF 50 foundation and I love it! But now I'm sad because they discontinued it. :( Have you found anything that is similar?

    1. Hi Claire, I saw that exact foundation at Ulta recently. Hope this helps!

  2. There are quite a few! The Sally Hansen nail polish strips, the Milani baked blushes, Wet n Wild Grey's Anatomy, Revlon Facets of Fuschia, and all of the Organix haircare. You are my drugstore guru!

  3. St. Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea Scrub, it has become my HG scrub! Also I love love love the Maybelline Tattoo shadows. Today I'm wearing Bad to the Bronze and I also bought the pink pomegranate one (not sure of the actual name). I never would have purchased these without your opinion :)

  4. I blamed your review for the Jordana In Color fabuliner in black being sold out forever. They were wiped out! Took me about two weeks and four different walgreens to finally find some but it was worth it. I never would have known about it if you hadn't given it such a great review and it's now my fav, too!

  5. Cover girl intense eyeshadow - have it in 3 shades now, use as primer and brighter!
Physcian's Fomula healthy wear - Love it - my go-to foundation.

Those are the two that I thought of without looking at back blog articles - I am sure there are more.

THANK YOU for all your hard work on this blog - I read it everyday and love it! I was really worried the week you didn't post the weekly drug sales that somethign really bad had happened - so glad you are doing good!

  6. After reading your review of your Curel lotion I went out and bought a bottle. I have been using it for about a month now and I totally agree with your review that it is an amazing lotion! I have been using it on my hands and it really has helped the look of my skin. Thanks so much!

  7. I bought the Suave Whipped Cream Mousse after seeing your review and results. I used it for a long time and then I ended up switching to gel. Lately my hair has been looking blah, so I actually looked up your Suave review the other day and decided to go back to it!

I've also gotten a LOT of the Wet N Wild shadows after seeing them on your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The Wet 'n Wild eyeshadow trios, in general. They wouldn't have been on my radar without your reviews. And the Milani blush in Luminoso. And probably a few other things that I can't think of right now.

  9. I've purchased a Jordana glossy lip color and a Fabuliner in black (my first purchases from them ever) based on your review. I was not disappointed, in fact I love the Jordana lip color (mine is in Mango Delight) better than any of the Revlon lip butters I own. I found it to be much more moisturizing and not drying at all. Your blog is my fave when it comes to great affordable beauty finds, your pics and reviews are the best!

  10. Your review on the curel lotion! I was having some intense dryness on my face that nothing seemed to work, but after reading your review I gave it a try and OMG in three days my face was back to normal!!!! I used it only at night and really worked it into my skin and the dryness was gone! I use it as regular body lotion as well and when I notice dry patches on my face. I love all the products you review! I also tried the new Wet and Wild lipsticks you reviewed, I tried ring around the rosey I think that's the name. Great color and texture on the lips!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Covergirl lip perfection lipsticks! Sultry is hg status for me. I would have never considered covergirl lippies if it wasn't for you! Thanks!

  12. Wet-N-Wild eyeshadows. Girl, before I read your glowing reviews of this brand's beautiful shadows and saw your photographs, I thought that they were just so much more junky stuff. Old school Wet-N-Wild that couldn't possibly be any good. On your recommendation I tried a trio, Walking On Eggshells and I was hooked. I now own so many of their shadows and use them regularly. Love them. :D

  13. Wow....there are so many things that I wouldn't have even though about buying thanks tp you and this blog! And I mean that in a good way. :-)
First off, that Deborah Lippmann dupe of candy shop, the Sinful Color polish in Cinderella, many of the Wet n Wild products especially the new bronzers they have out! So thank you for helping me branch out and try new things! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  14. There's been quite a few! Picked up some new Sinful Colors after your swatch and review post on those, also most of my makeup is now Physician's Formula after reading your reviews about their products (I love PF! Only makeup that doesnt break me out, looks great with my eye color and helps perfect my skin tone - what's not to love!?!). I know I've said this before on twitter, but your blog is my number one resource for drugstore beauty products, and since I am a drugstore makeup/nail polish junkie, that's a huge thing!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Where to start....Wet-n-Wild eyeshadows (Comfort Zone FTW), lipstick, glitter polishes and blush; Revlon lip butters; Revlon nail polish dupes; Milani baked blushes; Calgon Red Velvet body splash...You haven't steered me wrong yet.

Man, I never go drugstore beauty shopping without seeing if you've reviewed it first!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Physicians Formula Healthy Wear powder, it was hard to find but so worth it! It gives the perfect buildable coverage. NYX Cottage Cheese pencil is a great multi-tasker, I love it as a shadow base. Oh and my absolute favorite: Revlon ColorBurst Lip butter in Sugar Plum. I never would have purchased this color for myself but I am so glad I did! It looks too dark for me but it goes on very natural and makes my lips soft. Thank you for all your hard work!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lot's of products I've bought because of your reviews, mainly anything wet and wild. I'm very happy with their shadows and nail polishes. Also the Maybelline Define-A-Brow Eyebrow Pencil and Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express from your HG list

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow, so many things that I currently use & LOVE based on your reviews: St.Ives Green Tea Scrub, Wet n Wild Silent Treatment trio (basically, ALL their core eyeshadows -- that's how I first found your blog!), Organix Coconut Milk White Lotus Body Mist, Calgon Red Velvet Body Mist Suave Dry Shampoo, Jordana BestLash Extreme mascara, Jordana Easyshine Glossy lip color in Berry Colada, Milani Luminoso baked blush, Milani Smoothe base coat & Glosse top coat, maybelline
24Hr Color Tattoo eyeshadow in Tough as Taupe,
EcoTools brush set (for mineral foundation - but I use it
for nonmineral makeup), Sinful polishes (Bare,
Tutu,Cinderella). I know there's much more! Planning on getting the Curel lotion next! Thanks, G!

  19. Physician's Formula eyeliner trio. They are smudge proof and really easy to put on. Getting 3 pots of color for no more than $4 is a great deal!

    ReplyDelete
  20. That maybelline superstay 24-hour concealer is now my HG blemish concealer! LOVE IT!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I picked up the PF healthy wear powder and it has become a HG. Also I love the organix cherry blossom milky face wash. I fell in love with the big lots Japanese makeup wipes after your review as well. I always check your blog before heading to the drugstore. Recently I picked up the wet n wild bronzer RYC but it just didn't show up as I had hoped against my skin tone but I enjoy it as an eyeshadow :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh G, what haven't I loved that you recommended? I'd probably say everything Wet N Wild (the eye shadow palettes particularly), Revlon lip butters, Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 foundation and Physicians Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Lash Mascara. All of these are my Holy Grail products, thanks to you!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love your drugstore reviews. After reading your many reviews a few things have become a staple in my makeup routine or example, PF healthy wear powder, organix milky face wash, big lots japanese makeup wipes, maybelinne defin a brow, color tattoos and soft soap strawberry body wash ( yum !) I love your reviews G keep them coming!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. As soon as I read your review of the Dove Nutritive line I ran out and grabbed the shampoo and conditioner. I use them with the Got2B triple oil and my hair has never looked better or felt as healthy. I have very, very long red (from a box) hair that gets a ton of abuse. They are by far the best products I have ever used, high end or drugstore. Thank you, thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  25. not a particular product, but a whole brand: Wet 'n Wild! this was a brand i hadnt batted an eyelash at since elementary school, but now i LOVE their nail polishes. and whenever i want to try out a new trend, i check their display first -- i know their products are good, and their price point cant be beat!

    ReplyDelete
  26. A bunch of your reviews let me confirm whether or not something is worth buying. I actually got the physician formula's healthy wear when it was on sale and I like checking out your new products review if I'm curious about them. Thank you! :)

  28. Wow, where to begin??

Milani was never a brand I'd even tried before your blog. During the Cyber Monday sale I bought Luminoso and the base and top coat. I know that Luminoso is comparable to Mac's Stereo Rose, and although they aren't dupes, I actually prefer Luminoso more! I won't be upset when my Stereo Rose runs out because a Luminoso back-up is less than $10! The base and top coast have extended the life of my manicures by an entire extra day (which for me is saying something, since my nails look shabby after 2 days)!

Although I knew of Sinful Colors before I found your blog, you've definitely enabled me to expand my collection! Cinderella, Island Coral, and Zeus are all shades I specifically sought out because of your blog, and love them! Also, AUTUMN LEAVES BY MAYBELLINE! Wouldn't have looked at it twice without your swatches.

  29. There are quite a few things that I've purchased based on your reviews...PF Shimmer Strips eyeliners are my Holy Grail eyeliners, thanks to you! I've always had problems with eyeliners staying put...no more! Also, Cover Girl's Natureluxe foundation is all I use now. There are many others but those are my two absolute favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Revlon Lip butters were a biggie. I own about 7 colors now and I have even bought back ups of a few because I use them that often. I have gotten about 5 other people pretty hooked on them too, all because of your review! Jordana glitter polishes are a huge one also, I own 6 of those now and they are ridiculously amazing. Milani as a brand in general also, especially eyeliner and blushes. I honestly didn't even know my wags had a milani section because I consistently passed it over until I started reading your reviews. And Wet n' Wild products also. I was hooked on the shadows before I started reading (I actually found your blog while I was looking for swatches from them) but I had never tried any of their other products until I started reading you. Now I own mountains of their products. I seriously could never thank you enough for what you do for me and the rest of us readers. You have single handedly saved my makeup budget. I would have still been buying so many high end brands thinking that I could never get quality at a drug store, but now I buy more drugstore than high end and its all thanks to you!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ever since I've subbed to your blog, I've have gottem so many great drugstore products. I was never that into Wetnwild, but now that I've found your blog, I have tons of their makeup. Same with Milani, Jordana, and Sinful Colors.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I started using Prestige's My Biggest Lashes mascara because of your review, and I love it! I hadn't had any luck with drugstore mascaras before that formula; they'd either not be dramatic enough, they'd flake, or they'd make my eyelashes "crunchy"...

    ReplyDelete
  33. SebaMed body lotion! Love it. Works very well for my dry skin and especially well for keratosis pilaris. The smell does remind me of bar soap from the 80s! And, if it weren't for your review, I'd totally have walked right past it!

    ReplyDelete
  34. The biggest hit was probably the Wet n Wild eyeshadows generally - they're one of my favorite products overall, and I'm pretty sure I read about them here first!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Way too many to count! Phyisican's Formula Healthy Wear Foundation (HG for me, so sad it's no longer in stores!), PF Shimmer Strips eyeliners (pencils and gel), PF Organic Wear Jumbo mascara, Maybelline Superstay concealer and Color Sensational lipsticks, Wet n Wild entire brand (especially the eyeshadow pallettes, which I had never tried before!), Demeter Fragrances, Calgon Red Velvet body spray, Halle perfume, elf cosmetics makeup and brushes (another brand I'd never tried), Cover Girl Lip Perfection lipsticks, Prestige Total Instensity eyeliners (HG status), Sinful Colors (too many colors to mention!), Milani baked blushes, polishes, and top/base coat (another new-to-me brand), Yardley soaps, Softsoap organge blossom & honeysuckle body wash, Dial Nutriskin cherry body wash, L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadows, and Revlon lip butters! I know there are lots more, but those are the ones that spring immediately to mind! LOL.

I love your reviews, and always check them prior to making a purchase. (Indeed, as you can see from my long list, they are the reason for most of my purchases!!) Thanks again for all that you do. I really enjoy your blog, and look forward to checking it each day.

  36. I bought something a couple days ago because it was absolutely free! thanks to your blog post : D I have been looking for an alternative for my philosophy purity made simple and I decided to try the loreal youth code foam cleanser and i love it!

    ReplyDelete
  37. The Palladio shadow pencils. You were so dead on with them being budge proof and they're loads better then the Nyx jumbo pencils, but without the fun colors.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Batiste Dry Shampoo; I had never heard of it and find to be very effective!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Aloha G! I have purchased pretty much all of the Wet n Wild eyeshadows. Who knew they would be GEMS. But my ultimate favorite is the Wet n Wild Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana. At first I was like meh...but I bought it cause of your review...OMG I cannot believe it. My very first "highlighter" I thought it would not show up on my skin (I am a MAC NC44 for reference) but it is the "highlight" of my makeup routine. It just gives me the great JLO glow and shows up beautifully in pictures. Strangers always ask me what do I use on my face, it is such an amazing product...I should've bought a back up. Thanks for the tip Hun!

  40. To be honest, I don't buy any drugstore makeup or hygiene products unless I read a review from you. I am a college kid, and the idea of forking over eight dollars for a lipstick or mascara can be intimidating. You practically introduced me to Wet n Wild, specifically the 'Nutty' eyeshadow single, as well as Maybelline's 24 hour concealer. The biggest hit of your reviews, however, is a product you have not specifically reviewed, but praise all the time: Maybelline's Define-A-Brow Eyebrow Liner. Oh my goodness, I cannot LIVE without that liner!

...literally. My puppy just recently destroyed my define-a-brow liner, and so I went a few days using some other brow liner because I was lazy and swamped with college midterms. Never doing that again! I missed my define-a-brow liner so much!

    ReplyDelete
  41. When I saw your review on Curel lotion, I was tempted to try it in dry/sensitive and it became my favorite lotion! I love how this doubles as face lotion, how it's fragrance-free, how it actually lives up to what it claims, and how I got it on the 2/$7 deal you kindly let us blog-readers know about. The only down-side is that I'm not a fan of the tacky feeling you get if you rub the lotion in too much
There's also the wet'n wild megalast polishes, which are so worth the value; and, you're review on PF healthy wear SPF 50 foundation totally got me to go buy them during the CVS end of the year sales.
Thank you so much for making this blog my number one go-to blog

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'd be here all day if I named them all! I do remember thinking that Wet n Wild couldn't have found a better person for their first Beauty Ambassador. So all my WnW is your doing, and I couldn't be happier about it. In the past couple years, I rarely buy anything without coming here and checking (or waiting) for your review before buying.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Just yesterday I went into Big Lots specifically to buy Epielle cleansing wipes, which I heard about from your blog. So far, I'm very impresed. Your blog has also turned me into a dry shampoo lover, though my favorite brand is Tresemme which I don't think you've reviewed.

  45. CVS oil-free makeup remover!!!!
St. Ives Green Tea Scrub and more.

Your reviews have been so helpful to me. I've learned about so many drugstore products/sales. Thank you! :)

  46. Wet n Wild eyeshadow, PF Healthy Wear foundation and too many nail polishes to name. Thanks so much for all of your hard work!

  47. Thanks to your blog, i purchased:

elf's concealer brush--OMG, love this brush so much for cleaning up nail polish on nails for pedicures/manicures.

sinful colors "island coral" nail polish-- such a beautiful and pink/melon color! Perfect color for spring when wearing sandals! currently have this color on my toes! :)

Milani-- the products from this brand are AMAZING!! never tried them before until you posted info on CVS 75% off milani review.

Thanks again for your reviews!!! i truly enjoy your blog :)

  48. After one of your reviews of the Nail stamping kit, went the next day and I found it at Raid Aid, and I am completely in love with it, I order more plates online just because of that nail stamp kit.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I love the Dove shampoo and conditioner you reviewed a few months ago. You took pix before and after of how smooth your hair was and the texture looked similar to mine before I hit it with a curling iron. I tried it and nice!!! I still use mousse (Sebastian; it's pricy but smells like honeysuckle) and a Got-2-Be smoother but all four products work together so very well with my naturally curly/color-treated hair. I can go two day without washing my hair and my hair guru says my hair's in great condition. Thanks, G!

  50. Are you kidding me? -- If I've ever purchased something you reviewed? I DEPEND on your reviews!

Most recently, the Jordana Glossy Lip in Raspberry (can't stop wearing it), Milani Baked Blush, the Palladio Precision eyeliner, Revlon nail polishes, Wet n Wild eyeshadow trios and nail polish, Suave Keratin Infustion conditioner. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Thank you so much for your blog and reviewing items that I would not have normally even thought of purchasing. I am not sure you really know and understand the value of what you do for your readers! Also thank you for letting us know of the sales and deals we can get on these items - that's a great help!

  51. I have purchased SO MUCH based on your reviews!!! I actually became a real nail polish junkie from reading this blog every day! Seriously I had a few colors before, now I have an embarrasing amount!!! LOL. I have to say I have really loved PF Happy Booster blush after reading your review, I remember your review on one of the Organix shampoo/conditioner with Argan Oil, and you hated it, but I tried it anyway and hated it! Oh G., there are so many.....LOL! Keep up the good work!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Two main things so far: Wet n Wild eyeshadows and Revlon Lip Butters. I got several of each after your reviews. Keep up the great work!!

p.s. Just remembered -- also some of the latest Milani "beachy" nail polish colors.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wet 'n Wild trios, Suave dry shampoo, Revlon lip butters, Milani felt tip eyeliner. I know there are other things I'm forgetting! If there is something that I am interested in, I check to see if you've reviewed it first. And there have been things that I haven't purchased because of your reviews. You do a great job with describing textures, how things feel on, how they dry down, etc. that I can get a very good idea if something will work or not. Your swatches are also helpful as to whether or not a color will be a good one for me. You provide a great service your readers! I always look forward to new posts! Thanks!

  54. Black Radiance Shine Control primer. This stuff is seriously the best oil control primer I have ever used and I never would have tried it if I hadn't read your review. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wet 'n' Wild Megashield lip color. Never thought I'd like a Wet 'n' Wild lipcolor. I like this lip color better than the Revlon lip butter. I picked up Ring Around the Rosy and love this color on me. While I like the color fresh (and it's sooo smooth!) it fades down nicely, leaving me with a bit of lip tint for hours. It also wears pretty well, even through a meal. I'm so glad you reviewed these!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wet n Wild! You are the whole reason I believe in the quality of them. I've given them out as presents because I firmly believe in the quality.

Also, Covergirl Lip Perfection, Revlon Colorburst lip gloss. As soon as you said they were moisturizing I had to try them.

But the biggest one is Revlon nail polish in Whimsical. I didn't even look at anyone else's swatch. I saw it on sale and snapped it up for only $1 and change at Rite Aid. It's so beautiful. Thanks for all your hard work!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Most specifically the PF Healthy Wear Foundation! I tracked down ONE (because that's all there was by the time I got there) of these suckers in Translucent Medium FINALLY at a Target TWO HOURS away from where I live - because nor the Kmart or Walmart near me that sell PF ever carried that specific item - and I fell in love with it immediately! Then the hunt was on...Ulta online was always out of that color, so I finally tracked it down on Drugstore.com where I can usually get it for 20% off :)) So I order in multiples & I have given one to my BFF & my daughter so I can pass the madness on!

Of course there have been other items as well, but none as crazy as that PF foundation. I always anxiously await your daily email to see what wonders it may bring!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am ABSOLUTELY SPEECHLESS! Seriously, I don't even know what to say. I never in a million years thought I'd get such a response from this question, and I want to personally thank each and every person who took the time to leave a comment on this post. THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart, for your thoughtful, insightful and kind messages. You have absolutely no idea how it made me feel to read your comments. To hear that even ONE of my reviews has helped you to try something new and find something you love from the drugstore makes me so happy I can hardly contain myself!

Wow...just WOW. How can I ever thank you all enough for this? I just don't have the words to express my gratitude.

Thank you, each and every one of you, for making my day, week, month and year.

    *hugs*
    G. xoxo

  59. I don't mean to be insulting, but at first I was wondering why you were fishing for compliments. I figured that you have to know how much we depend on you for our reviews, as well as great deals, great ideas on application, etc. This site is so useful and it's amazing that it's all due to one woman, you! In case you don't know, I visit several sites and you wouldn't believe how often this site is mentioned as a must read or a favorite. If you didn't know before that you are highly respected and loved, you do now!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Donna, I'm CRINGING thinking that anyone would think I was fishing!! I honestly don't hear from many readers AFTER they have purchased and then TRIED the products I review, so I posted this to try and get some valuable feedback that might help me to know which reviews have been the most helpful to readers.

I never expected this type of response from readers and I'm still quite stunned. Thank you so much for the very kind words and encouragement. It means the world to me!
