The Wednesday Question

I was absolutely blown away by the response to last week's question (thank you so much to everyone who responded--you all gave me such incredible advice and I'm convinced that I will now find the perfect affordable blush brush, which of course I will review here when I finally purchase!). I'm hoping you'll take a minute to answer this week's question too!

Foundation: liquid, cream, powder, mineral or other? And why?

It's no secret that I'm a powder foundation gal, and my holy grail powder foundation is Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50. I love it because I have super oily skin, it's a snap to apply and gives me awesome coverage without looking cakey or settling into my fine lines. So what about you? What foundation do you use, and why does it work for you?

  1. Powder, hahaha. I use cream currently for special occasions, but it's way too much of a hassle everyday! I love that I can dash powder on in the morning without getting my hands dirty or worrying about, you know, unused foundation gunking up my brush or whatever.

Sometimes, I wear tinted moisturizer, though, if I have the time.

  2. For me, I'm a powder or pressed mineral powder gal also. I love the way a good cream/liquid foundation looks so flawless--on other people! I've never been able to make mine look that way though. I'm on a never-ending search for the perfect powder foundation, and right now I'm fairly happy with MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural...but the hunt continues!

  3. I am liquid, I have combination skin and if I only put powder it looks a little bit cakey. so I used liquid and then powder my face very lightly with foundation power.I love revlon photoready and rimmle lasting finish foundation.

  4. Liquid. I just have too much scarring/redness to cover up. Plus, my skin's dry so I have had bad luck with minerals and powders.

  5. I have combo skin and I use a combo approach to my foundation! I use a liquid 1st (Maybelline Instant Age rewind...awesome coverage with a small amount of product and it does not feel greasy or oily) Topped with a very thin layer of powder foundation/setting powder mix (currently using a 50/25/25 mix of Maybelline Mineral powder foundation, Pure Luxe Cosmetics Silica powder and Pure Lux Cosmetics April's Mix). The powder step does add a tiny bit more time to my routine but the payoff is worth it!

  6. You know, I have always been a liquid girl. But lately, I have noticed that my product tends to be sliding off my face...so I am contemplating switching to powder.

Will definitely be stalking this post!

  7. liquid or cream. i want to like powders, i really do, but i've never been able to apply them correctly. i've been using photoready, and now that ive almost finished the bottle i'm finally noticing all the weird sparklies everyone was complaining about.

  8. I have been wearing more liquid foundations in the winter, usually Clinique almost makeup or Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse. If I need a little extra coverage I top that with my MAC msf natural. In the summer when I tend to wear more mineral makeup (Laura Mercier is my fav).

  9. Mostly liquid, cream sometimes. I am always plagued with dry skin and so this is what works for my skin! I love the new covergirl for this- doesn't dry me out or make me look drier than I already am. Neutrogena Healthy skin is also good. Plus I've been using a cream concealer too- love the Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda concealer kit for the winter!! Plus of course my HG corrector- Pixi!

  10. For years it was pressed mineral powder (Neutrogena Healthy Skin), but my skin is way too dry now. Covergirl Simply Ageless cream is my current HG - doesn't dry my skin or settle into pores/wrinkles. Best & fastest application is with my fingertips, too.

  11. My skin always gets flakes, so I prefer liquid foundations and lately I have been in love with tinted moisturizers. I use cream compact makeup when I am in a rush. I love they way it looks, but most set and create flakes by day's end.

  12. I like liquid. Its easy for me to apply, especially in a hurry, and i like the finish. I never feel the need to touch up either. I've been wanting to try out a powder though bc i have heard such good things about powder

  13. Just to orient you to the bare face I start with-- I'm 40 years old and very fair. I have been a Bare Essentials convert for a long time but I have pretty deep circles under my eyes and it takes a primer and some MAC NW15 blended in to make them go away before I can do foundation. In the winter, the straight minerals seem to settle in lines and make my skin look dry so I've been using the Olay/CG Simply Ageless (applied VERY sparingly with a damp sponge) and then going over it with BE Mineral Veil. I never used to mix lines but now I experiment with what addresses the things that need correcting.

  14. Generally liquid with powder to set- even though i have combination skin, i LOVE the look and feel of liquid foundations.

in the summer i switch to waterproof (Revlon Activewear) or mineral foundation powders to combat the local humidity.

  15. Very light liquid application only on problem areas, set with powder all over. I want to like powder/mineral foundations but they end up patchy as the day goes on and make my skin feel greasier for some reason.

  16. I usually use liquid to even out my skin and any redness and then powder to set it. I find that powder doesn't provide a lot o coverage on my skin. I also use mineral powder to set and conceal. Now since I'm in a hurry in the mornings, I like to use a tinted moisturizer.

  17. Liquid usually... I used to use cream but it made me break out... Powder or mineral makeup never ever comes in the right shade for my skin (I am crazy levels of pale) and always looks bad on my dry/combination skin.

  18. Liquid :) And it's usually Revlon Colorstay. I have very oily skin with some dry patches and this foundation keeps me matte for about 7-8 hours and it doesn't make my dry patches flaky! ;) x

  19. I used to be a powder gal but I am really into Revlon Photo Ready lately. I will use Bare Minerals sometimes but my skin is a little too dry for that in the winter.

  20. Well, it used to be liquid, since I have really dry skin. I used Revlon Colorstay (the dry skin one) for a long time, but recently I'm loooving the Maybelline Dream Smooth foundation. So creamy and hydrating, and doesn't break me out. Plus it covers everything but still manages to look glowy. I guess I'm a cream girl now :).

  21. Liquid. Lately I've been wearing Sonia Kashuk tinted moisturizer, I want to even my skin out without it looking heavy.

  22. Liquid. I dabbled in powder in the early days of the mineral craze, but I always felt kind of... not finished.

I can't do creams because they tend to cake in the fine lines and pores on my face.

  23. After 10 years of mineral powder only, I've discovered that they're too drying for me in the winter weather (must be because I'm no longer, um, 30). I was pleased to discover that liquid foundations have improved a LOT since the 1990s, so I use that in winter (MUFE Face & Body Liquid Makeup), and mineral powder in the summer.

  24. I go back and forth between powder and liquid but I recently found the Maybelline Dream Mouse and love it! I don't even have to powder ofer it if I use primer, and it stays on all day and evening for me without touch-ups. I find the mineral makeup too drying and it makes me breakout.

  25. My foundation depends on my mood that day! I normally wear just powder foundation especially if I'm running late, mineral if I'm running late but breaking out, because I get better coverage from mineral than just powder. If I have time to actually put on liquid (or if I'm going out at night) then I do. Most of the time though, liquid makes my face oily =/ I have a love/hate relationship with foundation.
