A tribute to 80's hair bands: Milani Neon Nail Lacquer in Totally 80's

I mentioned a little while ago that I recently received an assortment of core collection shades from Milani to try, and I've been slowly working my way through them (and having a lot of fun in the process!). Today I want to show you Totally 80's, which is probably the MOST fitting name for a polish that I've ever encountered.

What's there not to love about a chartreuse neon creme? Seriously, this color is SO fun and, unlike so many other yellow-based polishes I've tried recently, it goes on like a dream! I used two coats in these pics and I'd say it's pretty darned opaque! This shade totally reminds me of some neon lace anklets I rocked in the 80s, back when we referred to neon as "day-glow". My socks looked just like this but they were neon chartreuse and I loved wearing them over black socks. Ahh, memories!

OK, back to the review: After a day of wear, I couldn't resist the urge to jazz this color up a bit. I immediately though: ZEBRA STRIPES! This ended up being a PERFECT choice because, as Mr. G so lovingly pointed out, zebra-striped stretch pants (that's what we called them back in the day) were a staple for members of 80's hair bands. And I even seem to recall that some hair band members wore neon chartreuse or yellow zebra-striped stretch pants! I tried to find some pics on google but all I could find was this pic of a bad Halloween costume. If you weren't around for the 80s metal hair band explosion, you're going to have to just trust me when I say that yellow zebra print stretch pants were HOT!

So, here's my tribute to 80's hair bands, using Totally 80s and black nail art polish:

I finally found the trick to making zebra stripes! If you alternate your starting position, you'll end up with consistently uneven lines! In other words, start your first line on the left side of your nail and your line will be thicker on the left. But for the next line, start on the RIGHT side of your nail, and your line will be thicker on the right. If you just go back and forth like this, I think it gives the overall look a much more realistic feel.

I hope you enjoyed my 80's tribute! I loved this look and I could have worn it all week if it didn't clash with all of my clothes (where are those day-glow lace anklets when I need them?).
