Swatches: Milani Dress Maker and Bare Necessity

I mentioned the other day that I purchased some colors from the newest Milani LE nail polish displays, so here are the swatches:

(click once to enlarge, again to magnify)

First, from the Haute Value Collection:

Dress Maker:
Apologies for the messy application job but I did this in a hurry because it was HOT in my house today and all I wanted to do was leave! As you can see, this is a pastel green creme with medium green shimmer. It is just GORGEOUS in person and it totally reminds me of true Jadite dishwear from the 50s. In fact, I think Dress Maker is the closest I've seen of any nail color in terms of resembling Jadite. I included a pic of Dress Maker next to Sinful Colors Mint Apple so that you can see that Dress Maker is more of a yellow-based pastel green than Mint Apple, which is definitely more blue-based. My one complaint is that Dress Maker goes on very sheer and streaky for the first two coats, and even after the third coat, you can see in these pics that there are still quite a few streaks. But I have to say, it's so gorgeous that it's worth the trouble. I actually cannot wait to reapply this with more precision and get that perfect mani with it.

Next, from the Bare it All collection:

Bare Necessity:

(Excuse the two finger photos but right before I took these pictures, I hit my other two nails with my camera and ruined my mani beyond repair). Surprise surprise I didn't buy either of the taupish greige shades in this collection! Bare Necessity is a nude mauvey-cocoa creme with rose undertones (that's my best description, sorry!). It bears a striking resemblance to the popular Wet n Wild shade Undercover. I actually don't own Undercover but I was wearing Bare Necessity when I was at Rite Aid the other day and I put a bottle of Undercover up to my nails and I could hardly tell them apart. Undercover has a smidge more pink to it, so if the pink in Undercover is what makes it not work for you, then Bare Necessity would be IDEAL. Bare Necessity went on beautifully in just one coat for complete opacity, but I can never stop at one coat so in these pics I used two. The formula of this shade is a dream to work with, which makes me hope that all of the colors in the Bare it All collection are this wonderful. So far, this one's a winner in every respect.

Do you own any shades for either of these two collections? What do you think of them?

  8. Whoa!!! Now I'll be haunting CVS even more! I think I like the Haute Value collection more. But I'm not going to pass up the nudes. I'll get one, maybe two, from that one.

  9. Those colors look great -- I'll have to get to the CVS soon! I've had fairly good luck with the Milani's I already have.

  10. As usual, I'm dying to get my hands on those two displays! I love Milani nail polish. Its always so easy for me to apply. The brushes are so small that its so much easier to paint my nails, unlike the OPI Pro Wide brush or the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri brush. I love those two brands and deal with the brushes, but I prefer the more dainty brushes.

You should see the new Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes! They're so fun!

  11. Bare Necessity reminds me of Milk Chocolate from Rimmel - I think discontinued... but similar. Very nice!
