The Wednesday Question

This week I've been pretty obsessed with lip color with back-to-back lipstick, lipstain and lipgloss reviews. So this brings me to this week's question. I am VERY curious to see your answers to this one, so I hope you'll chime in with a response:

Do you use long-wear lip colors like Cover Girl Outlast and Maybelline Super Stay? (I'm specifically referring to the two-component systems that have both a color and a balm.)

For the past couple of years, I guess I've viewed these two-step lip colors as a little outdated, but then I noticed that Cover Girl just released a new collection of Outlast shades, so maybe they're still quite popular and I'm just not aware of it! Do you use these? Do you love them? Should I revisit them? Leave a comment and let me know!

  1. I have all sorts of lipsticks! Especially the GWP lippies from Estee Lauder/Clinique that my mom/sister doesn't want. Then there's Missha and Cyber Colors which are brands in Korean/Japan. And some colored lipbalm from Mentholatum (a HK brand).

Btw, is the Revlon Colorburst lipsticks LE? I'm in HK right now and they're marketed as LE items...?

  2. Fay: I think you may have misunderstood my question. I'm not asking if you own lipsticks (hee hee, I'm assuming if you're reading this that you own several!) I'm asking if you own the LONG-WEAR type of lip colors that have both a color and a lip balm in the same package and are designed to be used together. And no, Revlon Colorburst lipsticks are not LE--they're now part of the core collection. Hope that helps. :)

  3. I have a couple from MAC and one from Revlon, but I rarely wear them.

Instead, I tend to do one of two things:

    1. wear Fyrinnae Lip Lustres, which are like a cross between a moisturizing lip stain / lip balm / lipstick / lip gloss.
(sounds weird but I LOVE THEM)

    2. I wear a pigmented lipstick with lipliner, blot it, and then reapply. With Morgana Minerals Azalea blue (a vivid fuchsia with blue reflect), I can apply it once at 9:30 am and it will still look pretty good by 6pm. This is through eating and drinking.

  4. yes, i used to be obsessed with the covergirl ones! they're great for dates and special events when you need your lips to last a long time (i wore various shades to prom, my wedding, and lots and lots of plays).

even though i have several of covergirl shades, i actually like the maybelline superstay better, i think. the colors are great and it feels a lot smoother on the lips. i think i need some more ;)

  5. I'm generally not a lipstick kind of girl, since I hate touching up any more than absolutely necessary (although I'm considering giving it another go!). I usually stick with a light colored stain or gloss, but if I'm feelin' fancy, I live and die by L'Oreal Infalliable in Crimson. Its the perfect red for me, is not particularly drying, and I have seen it last 12+ hours. The only problem I've noticed is that it can be hard to remove. Otherwise, its good times!

  6. I recently purchased the Rimmel Kiss & Stay lipgloss in the color First Kiss for 1.99 and had a 2.00 off coupon! I really like it! It can be drying and that is expected for a long wearing lipgloss but it's not as drying as the ones from Max Factor (Lipfinity) and CoverGirl. If you reapply the gloss it keeps your lips well moisturized.

I also purchased the NYC Long Wearing lip color in Diva (nude color) and didn't like it as much. :-/ It was 4.99 and I think I had a 1.00 off coupon.

  7. HECK NO.

when they first came out i had the Outlast ones. but i thought i got a bad batch because they were gritty and wore off in patches.

every time i have tried something similar, i have had a bad experience. i'd much rather use a lipstain and then a balm or a gloss to get the same effect. it was a little like your experience with the Just Bitten....except patchier but with that obvious ring around the egdes. plus they are all so drying!!!

  8. I haven't tried a long last lipstick or stain...but I would like to! Perhaps I will grab one of the Rimmel which are on sale at CVS or that e.l.f that you raved about :)

  9. It's how I first got into lipstick! I have a brown lipliner look to my lips which I desperately try to hide and with two kids who has time to keep reapplying lipstick, especially since I had school at night. I also hated that lipstick regularly rubbed off on my clothes and my kids!

I have covergirl, maybelline, and max factor. My fave is max factor long wearing in spiritual. Unfortunately, its been dc'd :( However, regular lipstick comes in handy for quick outings, just swipe and go!

  10. Those long-wear products are so 90s! They always dry out my lips! I much prefer a matte lipstick because they stay on well and I can reapply them fresh after a meal.

  11. I really don't like the two-step long-lasting lipcolors. The last time I wore one I tore the skin on my lips while trying to remove it. That stuff was impervious, even with oil and makeup remover. I'd rather do a stain (a la Fyrinnae's lip lustres) or lipliner + blotted lipstick.

  12. I recently purchased the Revlon ColorStay Overtime sheer (it's a liquid lip color and a gloss) and I'm planning to probably use it for prom, where I would really need it to stay. I also bought the L'Oreal Infallible Never Fail lipstick, it's super dry, and I don't think I'm a fan b/c most of these long-lasting colors don't have the colors I like (pale nude pinks, pale pinks, etc.)

  13. I have several shades of the Cover Girl Outlast, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!! Why? Because they stay on, they don't wear off and they don't leave lip stick stains on my cups. :-) I also love the gloss that comes with them.
