The Wednesday Question

For this week's question, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at our drugstore beauty purchases from the past year. Let's see what we've used up (or "hit pan" as the girls like to say) when it comes to the things we've purchased in '09:

Name one drugstore beauty product that you have used up in the past year.

For must of us, this shouldn't be difficult, but for others, it just might! Is there a drugstore product that you have COMPLETELY used up over the past year? A lipstick that you wore down to the end of the tube? An eyeshadow that now has a very visible pan at the bottom? A cleanser that you've turned upside and squeezed every last drop out of? Let's here it! What did you use up in '09?

  1. This was the first year I finished a makeup product! I've used up maybelline's lash stylist and volum' express mascaras, a covergirl tinted moisturizer, 3 blistex fruit smoothies lip balms, a clean and clear cleanser (not the one that got your award for best of '09), a wet 'n wild bronzer, and a burt's bees chapstick. I have so much stuff that I won't be repurchasing any of these, although I'd have to think harder about the lash stylist mascara if it weren't discontinued...

  2. That maybelline liquid eyeliner that's been discontinued :((( I'll never be the same.

  4. IDK if this technically counts but I'll give it try. :O)
I used up the lighter side of my Revlon Custom Creations Liquid Foundation. LOL I finished completely for the first time ever in my life...a tube of NK lipgloss in Cinnamon! I even shocked myself with that one. I have way too many prods to hit pan in a year. OUCH
    Hobby vs. Illness? LOL

  5. I have completely used up Trader Joe's Rosemary/Tea Tree/Mint body wash and shampoo. The shampoo is a close dupe of a Bumble & Bumble product and it smells great. I think it's $3.50 (as opposed to the $23 for the B&B shampoo).

I have also completely used up several tubes of Trader Joe's Honey Mango shaving cream.

  6. *Cries* my Max Factor PAN-Stik...Ugh. Why couldn't they leave that ONE product here...? :(

  7. this has been my year for using up stuff! i have replaced about half the contents of my (small) traincase.

    offhand i can think of:
    Lash Blast
    Avon Magix foundation (2x)
    Lash Stiletto
L'oreal True Match (fave foundation; at least 4x)
    L'oreal liquid bronzer
Lancome Photonaturale foundation (or something like that; from Marshall's)
    Rimmel Smoky Brun quad (2x?)
L'oreal shadow single in Bronze Sunset
L'oreal Bare Naturale Foundation and Mineral Finish
    Maybelline Mineral finish powder
    other assorted liners and mascaras

and i'm eking out the last bits of at least 4 products right now.(in 2010 i need to work on my lippies and Fyrinnae pigments)

dang! my best turnover year yet!

  9. Burt's Bees and Soft Lips and Blistex. I love my lip balms.

Besides that... mostly skin care stuff, hair care stuff, moisturizers.

Haven't been able to hit pan on the actual make ups yet... but we'll see!

    mark. make it big mascara,
    avon superfull mascara,
    elf hypershine gloss in candlelight,

and I've hit pan on my NYX eyeshadow in nude

I'm thinking at some point I need to do a Pan 10 project or something because I keep on buying and am not using up anthing.

  11. Ooo this is a fun one. I've bought more stuff since subbing to this blog than I had bought altogether for the last 5 years or so, but there are a few things that I use use use.
Bare Naturale Mineral Makeup - my go-to "foundation" and I go through about 4, maybe 5, containers in a year.
Maybelline VolumeXXpress mascara - started second tube
The double-ended Revlon mascara - like the Maybelline best so won't be buying Revlon again.
Rimmel automatic eye liners in plumb and black. Not repurchasing either one. Bought Styli-Style black as recommended last week but, alas, although it does stay on longer, esp when set with powdered e/s, it still smears. So the search goes on.
Avon glimmersticks automatic lip liner in mauve and a brick-y red color. Longest wearing color I have found is to use the lipliner and E.L.F. hypershine gloss over the top.

Monistat chafing cream - use as a makeup primer mostly. But since I've lost 100lbs a couple of years ago, I have skin rubbing issues and use it on those. Best of all, it soothes razor/waxing burn like nothing I've ever tried! I just learned that some people use it on blisters, too...I'll be trying that as well.

  12. It's funny I was going thru my stash and saying I have numerous makeup that I need to use up. I obviously use up mostly mascara. Apart from that all my e/s, f/d, lippies and glosses are still half way or full.

  13. I've only recently gotten seriously into makeup but I've used up the Wet n Wild Expressions Avant Garde palette, and Boots sensitive expert eye makeup removal pads.

  14. I've hit the pan on my L'oreal True Match Pressed Powder, Maybelline Bronzer, Used up 3 lots of Clinique dramatically different moisturiser. Mainly wear gloss so my lipsticks never seem to wear down but I do run thru my favourite glosses - which have been elf or Rimmel. My all time favourite Avon Brown Eyeliner Pencil is just 2 inches long now :(

  15. I would have to say......my Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara (IMO it did a lot better than a lot of MAC mascaras I've tried), my L'oreal H.I.P. black pencil liner, and my N.Y.C. Sun 2 Sun Bronzing Powder in Bronze Gold (used for contouring). I love that stuff!

  16. Dominique- i love that bronzer too! it's one that's just barely lingering in the pan, around the edges. i use it a lot but it's lasted me 2 years!

  17. VO5 heat protectant spray, when I went to repurchase, tresemme's version was on sale, so that's what I just opened

MF 2000 calorie mascara (LOVE IT!)
MF Volume Couture mascara (good, but not my 2000 calorie)

Cetaphil cleanser (my whole family uses this)

Cetaphil daily facial moisturizer SPF 15 (repurchased several times, no breakouts!)

Cetaphil Moisturizing cream (jar, won't repurchase, prefer lotion in a pump bottle)

    Flexitol Heel balm (nothing special)

Herbal Essences Body Envy Voluminzing Gel (repurchased)

Target knock-off Vaseline intensive rescue lotion (will repurchase)

TONS of body wash, my favorite so far is the Target knock off of Dove Moisturizing (white and blue bottle)

Suave coconut conditioner (my whole family loves it)

  18. Cover Girl Simply Powder, but that's not fair because I've finished about four of those a year for the past ten years. My Almay Intense Eye Color is just about used up, and I actually managed to get through an entire Burt's Bees lip balm before losing it. If you ever see my purse, you'll realize why that is such a feat!

  19. Very interesting question, and required some thought on my part, but here's what I came up with:

    Maybelline Define-A-Lash mascara
    Cover Girl Lash Blast
    Cover Girl Super Thick Lash
    Revlon Age Defying Spa foundation
A Maybelline foundation, can't remember which one!
    Many bottles of np remover

There has to be more but I can't think of anything! I'm ashamed that I didn't use up an eyeshadow or blush or np. My current collection could make up an army of 500 for 10 years, I think. O.O I should just stop buying stuff, seriously. I'll never use it all! I can't see me finishing a bottle of np, even though I do a new mani every night. What a thought. *goes off to ponder this*

  20. I've bought several Rimmel Mascaras and of course, the LashBlast!

  21. Ladies, I am LOVING hearing what you've used up in '09! It is giving me inspiration to use, use, use the stuff I already own, or "shop from my own stash" as people like to say. It's going to be challenging for all of us once the drugstore brands unleash all of their new spring collections, but all I have to do is keep returning to this post for inspiration! So thank you all so very much for taking the time to list the products you've used up! xo

  22. L'Oreal Double Extend Mascara (the red & white one)! It was bone dry before my 3 month limit because I used it soooo much!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Biore Dual Fusion Moisturizer + SPF 30.
    Prestige My Biggest Lashes.
Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lip gloss in Plum.
    Demeter scent in Honeysuckle.
Loreal Tightly Wound Spray Gel for curly hair. (I think they're replacing it with that horrible smelling Vive Pro Glossy Style Glossy Curls Spray Gel. so sad!)
Almost killed a Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner in Teal but have about an inch to go!

  24. This year was the first that I ever got seriously into makeup, so I have accumulated more products this year than I have ever even tried in the 8+ years I've used makeup! So, I've got a long way to go before I finish/hit pan on 90% of my collection.

    I've finished:
    Cover Girl foundation
    Cover Girl pressed powder
    Maybelline Full N Soft mascara
    Cetaphil SPF 15 Moisturizer
L'Oreal Felt Tip Liner in Black
    Purpose Cleanser

I'm close to being done with:
Maybelline Dream Matte Pressed Powder in Sand
Wet N Wild Liquid Eyeliner in Black
The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain
    Nivea toner
Blistex healing ointment (the one in the blue pot)
    Nivea lip balm
