Everything I Know About the Ulta 20% off Coupon (Platinum and Non-Platinum)


Several of you have told me that you received a 20% off Ulta coupon this week. I posted about it on my Instagram the other day and received hundreds of responses (818 comments, to be exact!) so let me break down for you EVERYTHING I know about this coupon, based on your incredibly helpful feedback:

  • This week Ulta sent Platinum and non-Platinum members a coupon via snail mail and/or email containing a unique code for 20% off your entire order, INCLUDING most prestige cosmetics. This code can be used in-store or online and it is valid for ONE TIME ONLY (not multiple orders). Expires 12/24.

  • Many of you received JUST the snail mail coupon or JUST the email coupon, but some of you received both. If you received both, I'm hearing that the codes are different so I'm assuming you can use both for TWO separate 20% off orders. I cannot 100% confirm that though, because I did not receive both.

  • Here is the fine print for the PLATINUM coupon: One-time use coupon offer. Coupon offer valid on regular price and sale merchandise and on any one service at The Salon at Ulta Beauty or Dermalogica Skin Bar. Excludes hair extensions and the purchase of series skin treatments. One discounted service per guest. Cannot be combined with any other beauty service offer. Not valid on NARS, LancĂ´me, Clinique, Dermalogica, Dyson, Beauty Deals™, Beauty Steals®, 5 for $5/5 for $10 offers, Benefit Brow Bar Services and clearance.

  • If you are NOT Platinum, I believe that your code is NOT valid on fragrance, in addition to all of the brands listed above.

  • I have no way of knowing how Ulta decided to distribute this coupon, or why some members only received a snail mail, while others only receive an email, and why some members received both.

  • If you have not received ANY 20% off coupons via email or snail mail, you may want to give Ulta Customer Service a call and see if they can give you a code over the phone (I heard that this worked for some of you, but I obviously cannot guarantee that). I know that sometimes Ulta distributes these coupons in phases, so you may also just want to wait until next week and see if you get one then.

I hope that answers all of the questions you may have about this coupon. I wish I could tell you more, but this is literally all that I know at this point!

  2. The best way to get a coupon is their Facebook page. I'm Platinum 6 times over already and I didn't receive anything. If you call or email they will tell you that the coupons were sent out randomly and they told me they were "out of coupons to send." I left a comment on the FB page and they asked me to private message them my member #. They e-mailed me a coupon very quickly.

  4. Thanks G for the info. This has been a hot button topic on many of the makeup blogs within this past week. There are so many different answers floating around out there which is a shame because if Ulta would just send everyone a coupon it would make everyone's (including theirs) life easier. Short answer is, I'm just happy I got one (snail mail). From what I'm reading there are a lot of people who did not receive one.

    1. I agree with you. I'm sure Ulta means this as goodwill, so it is a shame so many customers feel slighted. It happens every time they run this promotion. Why they can't link the 20% off to our rewards account numbers? Ulta needs to tackle this and develop a way that works. (I got mine but I feel for those who did not get anything, especially with some people getting doubles.)

  5. Yesterday I received the email with a code and today I got another via snail mail and I'm not platinum, now I have 3 codes for prestige products counting the one from Sephora, LOL, trying to decide what I'm gonna buy

  8. I have received both in the past and can confirm two separate codes. It's great because sometimes items aren't available in store and I can get what I need in person and then the few items that they didn't have in store online (as well as the inevitable item you forgot to get)

    1. I think the whole Platinum/VIB Rouge thing is awful. Loyalty should be decided on how long you've been a customer, not how much money you spend.

  10. I just called Ulta's customer service and the man I spoke with was great. He sent me an email with a coupon code immediately and told me that they've received tons of calls about this issue. Also the coupon code that some CS reps have sent out by email were expired which is another headache. So if you call and they send you one make sure to ask what expiration date is.

  11. I'm platinum and my daughter is not. I received my email coupon yesterday and my snail mail yesterday. She received her snail mail yesterday too. Mine do have different codes on them :)

  13. I used to work for Ulta and several years ago we would only send the mailer coupons good on prestige items to the top spending customers of each store. I don't know how true this is, or if they still do this, but similar to how Sephora ranks their members, Ulta may also send it to higher spending members. We always had upset consumer who felt left out for not having the coupon. Since they had a unique code, there wasn't much we could do for them.

  16. OMG since peach palette by too faced release to Ulta like December 15 can we use this coupon on the peach palette? Does anyone have any suggestions or can sure what they plan on buying with their coupon? I need ideas

    1. i'd like to her the too faced sweet peach palette too, but i sa read somewhere that it might only be released on too faced's website. the other sweet peach collection items looked good too, so maybe i'll get a lip gloss and possibly the highlighter palette if they come out before the ulta coupon expires.

  21. I'm platinum and received snail mail + email. I'm so torn, though. I already bought a haul on Black Friday and don't really NEED anything else right now. So tempted to use it to buy Shape Tape concealer which is finally back in stock in my shade, but then I'd feel obligated to add extra stuff to get free shipping. Darn you, Ulta!!!

    1. I ordered online 2 days ago & was able to get It CC Cream with SPF 50 at the 20% off. I used the code from mailer, I'm platinum. I'd ring cs & ask bc IT is not listed as being excluded.

  29. I am not platinum. I got both an email and a flyer in the mail....but I also got that email this morning about a bunch of holiday sets being on sale...a lot of them half off today. I was going to go anyways to pick up some stuff with my coupon, so hopefully they let me stack my coupon with discounts today. I have a list of stuff to pick up from Ulta and Sephora so these coupons have been great!!

  30. Hi G, I actually called customer service to ask them about this promo when I didn't receive an email or the snail mail. The CS agent said that the emails were randomly assigned promo codes. I asked her if it was possible to give me one and she was able to email me a promo code, but it excluded fragrance. Later that day I did receive my mailer which does NOT exclude fragrance. So if people are having a hard time, they can call CS and Ulta will usually give it to you.

  31. I have been a Rewards member for decades, since they were Ulta 3 (!!) and have the ancient laminated card to prove it! I am not Platinum, however I received an email yesterday. It is not good on fragrance, some designer cosmetics and services (Nars, Lance, Benefit Brow Bar). Looking forward to a nice long shop;)

  32. So far no 20% off for me. I do regularly get sales flyers in the mail.

    I'm Platinum but I've only had this account for this year. They messed up somehow and some gal in Florida was using my rewards # (which had been mine for 8 years). I had access to the online account and could see all these transactions that weren't mine. I finally got Ulta to understand what was going on and they told me to start a new account and they transferred the points I had over to the new account and gave me a $50 gift card for the hassle (well, that, and a really bad dye job from one of their salons I complained about, the wrong color and non-permanent dye so I looked bad in like a week...).

    Anyway, since then, I've probably spent between $1000 and $1500 at the Ulta website so I would consider myself a good customer! But I have not been back to one of their stores since the terrible dye job (I picked a different salon and I do all my Ulta shopping online).

    I am not sure if any of this tells anyone a thing about who gets the 20% off or not. I have always gotten two in the past, on my old account. But I am stocked up for like the next four years so I'm not going to bother contacting them.

I already snagged the palette (out of my mind waiting for it to get here!!!) so hoping I can get a few other things from the collection, too! :D

  40. Hey. I'm Platinum and I actually got 3 codes: email, the big card in the maul, and a small coupon in the holiday guide in the mail. If you didn't receive the coupon, check the holiday guide circular.
