But before I get into my recs, don't forget that there's a printable $1 off Revlon nail product coupon HERE that you can use to bring down your final price even further!
First, I want to mention that the Colorstay Top Coat and Base Coat both get A LOT of love from the nail community, and I know that quite a few of you are upset that these products are probably going away. So if these are favorites of yours, stock up while you can! I personally haven't gotten around to trying either the Colorstay base or top coat, and now I'm kind of glad I lagged on that since, with my luck, they'd probably become holy grail products (why do I always fall in love with things that get discontinued??).
My first rec is Rain Forest:
Revlon Colorstay Nail Enamel in Rain Forest -- two coats
(from my original post from August 2012)
My pic doesn't do this one justice, but I still adore this color since my original purchase in August 2012. If you love deep greens and you don't already have this one, get it. Gnarly Nails has a nice comparison post here and I love Rain Forest the most out of all the shades she swatched with it.
My second rec is Sunburst:
Sunburst is a deep tangerine jelly (sorry if it looks red on your monitor but I assure you it's orange). I did these quick swatches to show you what this baby looks like in a jelly sandwich manicure because look how opaque this is for a jelly! I only used two--yes two--coats of Sunburst in these photos. The "meat" in this jelly sandwich is one of the Blue Cross Pumpkin Polishes from last Halloween (click here for pics) that contains holo and black hex glitter.
So just to confirm, in the photos above and below I applied one coat of Sunburst, then one coat of the Halloween 2013 Pumpkin Polish in Chunky Nail and one more coat of Sunburst on top of that. That's it. Look how opaque and intense that color is, would ya?
Hello, jelly sandwich!
I get asked quite often for recs for good drugstore jelly polishes, and this is definitely one of the best, in my humble opinion. So get it while you can! It looks beautiful with just about any glitter polish and it looks gorgeous alone (without glitter) after just two coats. One more thing: I bought a back-up of this polish at my local Big Lots about a month ago for $1.99 so if you can't find it at your drugstores, check Big Lots.
What are some of YOUR favorite Revlon Colorstay Nail Enamel shades? I'd love to hear your recs!
PS: Again, don't forget to print out this coupon for $1 off any Revlon nail product to use during the Walgreens or CVS clearance sales!
Along with the Top & Base Coats, I recommend Cayenne ans Sequin.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recs, Niki!!
DeleteI highly recommend Buttercup, a lovely white based yellow. Also, as much as I love Rainforest, you might want to avoid it if you already have ChG Glittering Garland or Orly Meet Me Under the Mistletoe as it's very close to both.
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I actually included a comparison post link in my post above and one of the shades she compares to Rain Forest is ChG Glittering Garland! Lol! I think they're kind of different! :)
DeleteI love Buttercup! For a light yellow it applies nicely!
DeleteYes, Buttercup has a great formula given that it's so light! If anyone's interested, here's a pic of a recent mani I did with Buttercup. http://imgur.com/Cgu5TzH
DeleteG, a true nail phile would definitely be able to tell the difference between Glittering Garland and Rainforest, for sure. Whether you need those, MMUtM, and Sinful Shine Amazonian is another question!
I absolutely love French Roast.
ReplyDeleteIt's a warm brown with metallic micro shimmer. :) A very pretty polish, perfect for the fall.
The ColorStay base coat has been a cult product for some, and yes, it has been confirmed to be discontinued. Like you, I haven't even got around to try it, but I do plan to try before it's too late. A nice base coat is hard to come by
ReplyDeletePassionate Pink and Coastal Surf are two of my favs.
ReplyDeleteThe top coat is my absolute favorite so I'm pretty disappointed they are discontinuing it. Will surely have to stock up while I can. Maybe the new Gel Envy top coat will be good too. Thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteI have three backups of the base coat now! Debating getting more - it really is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI have to grab some more too, love it and sad its going :(
DeleteI love this line. Sad to see it go. I just picked up a backup of the base and topcoat. I like seashell for the mannequin hand look on my fair skin. I work in healthcare and am currently on day 3 with not a chip insight. I usually get a day or 2 out of other polish.
ReplyDeleteI got Sunburst in some sale last year (or with store $$, or something) and it's AMAZING. I'll see if I can grab Rainforest too! I also avoided trying the basecoat mostly because of the price - if I liked it, I didn't want to have to pay the full price or be hunting for sales all the time LOL!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite nude of all time is Trade Winds (I'm sad to see it go) and Indigo Nights is a gorgeous one coat nautical blue creme. Definitely think I need Sunburst though!
ReplyDeleteI really like Trade Winds, also. I think anyone who's into nudes should check it out before it goes away. Here's a mani I did featuring Trade Winds as the base: http://i.imgur.com/wsuWw8R.jpg.
DeleteI've found a TON of these polishes at my Big Lots, particularly French Roast, Spanish Moss, and Rain Forest.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites would probably be Delicious (a hot orange-red creme that is GORGEOUS and practically a one-coater), and Rich Raspberry (pretty pinky-purple creme). French Roast, Indigo Night, and Rain Forest are still waiting in the wings with me, and I also own Spanish Moss but it kinda gives me lobster hands!
Lobster hands?
DeleteUpon reading a comment here on the blog about using the ColorStay Base coat with regular polishes, I tried it. I guess I never thought to use this product on anything other than using it with its own polishes. Let me tell you, it is AMAZING as a base coat with ANY polish. I have been using it now for four weeks as my base coat and I have tried many different brands of polish (I change my polish twice a week). I cannot believe what a difference this base coat makes! Never in a million years would I have thought the secret to chip-free nails lies in the base coat. I always figured it was the top coat that helped your polish stay on. This base coat is truly unbelievable. Now that they are discontinuing it, I already have four bottles hoarder. I am basically going from Walgreens to Walgreens in my area and buying them up. Now I can add CVS to my rounds as well since I'm sure they will clearance this out too.
ReplyDeleteI love (LOVE) French Roast. The brown & blue Shimmer is beautiful. Also, Stormy Night, looks gray-ish but some times looks brown - sometimes purple. Is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love vintage rose, people always compliments this color on me :)
ReplyDeleteI was fond of the Basecoat, although it becomes a nightmare if it gets too thick! My favorite shade was already dc'd it's called Calla Lily, a sheer white with tiny gold microglitter, it was at Big Lots a few months ago so perhaps it (along with other shades) will be there eventually.
ReplyDeleteI love Rain Forest, too. Autumn Roast is another favorite. Since I'm hearing good things about the basecoat, I hope to find one or two for my stash.
ReplyDeleteTop coat and base coat are my HGs! My 2 fave colors from this line are Passionate Pink and Rainforest. I'm sad to see them discontinuing these, and I've already begun stocking up on my faves.

ReplyDeleteOh I think Sinful Shine Amazonian might be a close dupe for Rainforest!
ReplyDeleteThey are very close to being dupes, but not exact matches. Check out this comparison of the two: http://www.polishedcousins.com/2013/05/sinfulshine-dupes.html
DeleteJust wanted to mention that there are a bunch of these colors on clearance at Ulta for $2 right now, including both off your recommended ones. I don't know if it is online only our also in stores.
ReplyDeleteI actually went out and bought some Revlon Colorstay Gel Smooth Basecoat even though i'm not a nail polish person. Curiosity got the better of me.
ReplyDeleteThe base coat should definitely help your nail polish wear longer. Lots of people call it their "holy grail" base coat and talk about how their manicure wears for many days longer than with any other base coat. With this and a good topcoat, you might get a good week or more out of a manicure.
DeleteI must find Sunburst, gorgeous color! Will they be discontinuing the base coat from this line too? It's my all time favorite!
ReplyDeleteI love the base coat and would love to get my hands on more! But it must be cult like, because everywhere I go and look for it, it's gone! Gonna have to try to top coat too! Even though NYC is my HG!
ReplyDeleteThey were $1.99 at my Ulta today even though the shelf tags said $3.99. I used the $1 off Revlon nail product coupon from coupons.com and got 5 polishes for $5. Yeah!
ReplyDeleteAwww...man! Just used them with these Sally Hansen strip I found at the Dollar Store. This mani has lasted for days!!
ReplyDeleteI love Amethyst, and your pics of Sunburst have me drooling!!! Thank you, G!
ReplyDeleteBold Sangria if you like vampy nails. I also love all the blue shades, Blue Slate is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteYour two picks are actually my favorites as well! I'll have to check my stores when I'm home and pick up backups! So glad I read this today.
ReplyDeleteBase coat and many colors at my big lots for $1.50!
