For several years now, Sally Hansen has released limited edition Designer Collections in their Complete Salon Manicure line. Past collections have included collaborations with fashion designers such as Prabal Gurung (remember the Fall 2012 Limited Edition Collection?) and Tracy Reese (my favorite Tracy Reese collaboration was the Fall 2010 Designer Collection). Today I'm delighted to share with you some pics of the newest limited edition Designer Collection for Spring 2013, thanks to reader Amanda, who spotted this display at Meijer.
UPDATE: A huge thanks to my pal Mary from Body & Soul for sharing this link that includes some insights about which designers were involved in this collaboration. Here's the breakdown:
Prabal Gurung shades: Apparition, Resurrection, Angel Bite
Tracy Reese shades: Hot Lava, Butterscotch, Soy Latte
Alexander Wang: Dune, White Out
The unaccounted for shades are Green Tea and First Kiss but, as reader Michelle pointed out, Green Tea is a repromote from the Tracy Reese Fall 2011 Designer Collection (although some swatches of the original Green Tea make this shade look a bit more blue than the one in the display below; that could just be a lighting issue). Reader Melissa mentioned that Dune (Alexander Wang) could be a repromote, and since that shade name sounded familiar, I did some digging. The only thing I could find was the Sally Hansen Smooth & Perfect shade named Dune (click here for swatches) and they don't really look like the same color. If any of you know of a Complete Salon Manicure shade from a past collection called Dune, please let us know!

Welp, I think Hot Lava, Green Tea and Resurrection need to be mine. How about you? Anything jumping out here? Have you spotted this display in your area yet?
A huge thanks, Amanda, for the great sighting and beautiful pics. I really appreciate it!
LOVE Hot Lava and Resurrection! The yellow Butterscotch looks interesting too, since I have yet to find a flattering yellow that isn't streaky and sheer....!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I was scrolling down the pictures literally thinking exactly what this comment said!
DeleteButterscotch and Apparition neeeeeed to be mine. Angel Bite looks lovely, too, especially since other deep colors from this range have applied like a dream for me.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Their darker cremes are like BUTTA! ;)
DeleteClearly need hot lava.
ReplyDeleteGreen Tea? Wasn't that from a past collection? I think they brought it back. Anyway, Hot Lava, Resurrection, Butterscotch, and Apparition look amazing. Apparition's duochrome reminds me of SpaRitual It's Raining Men.
ReplyDeleteGREAT CALL, Michelle! You are so right! Green Tea was from the Tracy Reese Fall 2011 Collection (I did a search on my blog for a pic of the display but I have so many Sally Hansen posts from the past four years that it's buried deep in there--can't find it). But I do remember now, this was the same collection that had Bewitched, which I fell in love with at the time. I never did get Green Tea the first time around, so I guess I'm happy to see it back again! lol! Thanks so much!!
DeletePS: I found swatches of the Fall 2011 version of Green Tea and, I don't know if it's just a lighting thing, but it looks more blue. I wonder if they tweaked the shade a bit?

I have also been dying for Green Tea! I'll take it in any form :-)
DeleteDune looks simlar to OPI My Vampire Is Buff, no?
Thank you, G! I'm really hoping it's the return of Green Tea! I picked it up when it was first released, but then put it back because of the price tag (which isn't much of an issue now). I'd be so happy to finally have it!
DeleteGreen Tea, and Dune, are both repromotes.
ReplyDeleteLove Hot Lava, gonna have to keep an eye out!
Aaaah I thought the name Dune sounded familiar! Was that from a Prabal Gurung collection? Or am I getting that confused with Bandage? Thanks! :)
DeleteI need angelbite apparation and resurrection! So pretty! But especially angelbite!
ReplyDeleteIf hot lava happens to look like my wet n wild waves of enchantment then I am buying 3! I have been looking for a dupe for it for awhile now! it is my favorite! i hope someone gets it and swatches it!
ReplyDeleteIf I can get my hands on it, I will do a swatch comparison for you!
DeleteI love Hot Lava, but I know once I buy it, I probably will never wear it. But you can bet I will be picking up Resurrection!
ReplyDeleteOmg yes G u read my mind with the three colors u mentioned at the end. I was also looking at First Kiss. Ugh I really don't need any more polishes!!
ReplyDeleteHOT LAVA HOT LAVA HOT LAVA. Omg I need it. Just like I need Hard Candy's Piece of Papaya(which seems like they would be pretty darn similar) but oh my freaking goodness. Its so pretty I want. I want so hard
ReplyDeleteApparition and Resurrection will be mine!
ReplyDeleteHot Lava looks like it coooould be a Zoya Kimber dupe!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking Rico, but I like your Kimber idea!
DeleteAhhh, yes, didn't even think of that. I'm excited to see which one it looks more like (if it resembles either in the end)!
DeleteI am thinking Hot Lava, Green Tea and Resurrection will have to come live at my house! If I find them that is! So does anyone know who the designer is?
ReplyDeleteButterscotch is interesting, but I think I'll wait until I see swatches. Everything else I have dupes for and I promised to buy fewer dupes this year.
ReplyDeleteMust have Hot Lava! That one and Apparition. Ugh, bye bye wallet.
ReplyDeleteFirst Kiss is from Spring 2011- Tracy Reese.
ReplyDeleteEmerald is the Pantone color of the year. I wish there was a perfect drug store shade, not too dark but that in-between shade we've been seeing on the runway. I was hoping when I saw the title of the post on Facebook there'd be one. If anything I'd get Green Tea, but it looks like a mint green which I have 3 already! Thanks for the post I enjoyed that moment of exhilaration!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought Dune looked familiar... It looks awfully similar to a shade I have called "WIthout a Stitch"
ReplyDeleteI was going to say that First Kiss is from the Tracy Reese Spring 2011 collection but Green Man beat me to it. I remember that collection so well since I went nuts trying to find that and Delphinium. Thankfully, I have both :) Looking forward to trying these new ones.
ReplyDeleteHot Lava is so beautiful!
ReplyDeletefor some reason these collections are hard to find here. maybe they just stick them all together
ReplyDeleteHot Lava looks really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI am gonna need backups of that Green Tea *_*
ReplyDeleteI like the looks of Hot Lava, and it sounds like it might be a popular shade from the comments here. Also, I think Apparition looks pretty gorgeous! Hopefully I find these soon (although my husband would tell you I don't need any more nail polish, haha).
ReplyDeleteI found some swatch pics of the three Tracy Reese colors. They look really great together, like the perfect kit for a trendy ikat manicure. Butterscotch looks a lot better to me swatched in this pic than in the bottle.

Hot lave looks a lot like Rica from Zoya to me. I own Rica but this would be exciting for some fans of the polish who might have a hard time finding the polish in stores, or shelling out the bucks to get it online. Add in the fact that Sally Hansen usually has sales and coupons and this could be a great deal, especially with this week's sales. It would be interesting to see a swatch comparison though, to tell if they are truly dupes.
ReplyDeletewhere was this display? where would be a good store to look at because butterscotch and angel bite look great.
ReplyDeleteTry Walgreen's, any local regional chain stores that carry makeup (Fred Meyer or Bartell's), K-Mart, Target, Rite Aid, CVS. It's taken a while to show up at some locations, but I'd say that it's pretty much all over the place now.
DeleteDo you know how closely "Soy Latte" is to Deborah Lippmann's "Fashion"? That has been a lemming of mine and Soy Latte looks like it is pretty close.
ReplyDeleteWasn't First Kiss originally a Tracy Reese color back in 2011?
ReplyDeleteLove the colours. I love this brand
ReplyDeleteThe products are looking really good.
