Review: New Sinful Colors Nail Enamel in Mint Apple

Oh WHERE to begin with this new Sinful Colors shade?? In case you missed it, the lovely Magic Maid informed us that Sinful Colors has not one, but three new greens in their permanent collection! Blink and you might miss them though, because they do not have their own counter display--they have just been very quietly placed within the existing Sinful Colors permanent displays at Walgreens (I haven't see these new shades at Rite Aid yet so, for now you can only get them at Walgreens). The three new shades are Happy Ending, Innocent, and of course the amazing Mint Apple that I just purchased at my local Walgreens for $1.99:

Two coats of Sinful Colors Mint Apple

I tweeked the colors in the above swatches to try and get the shade as close to what it looks like in real life (on my own nails) as possible. If you look closely, what sets this seemingly medium-range jade green creme apart from the pack is that lovely, very subtle gold shimmer running through it. The shimmer really gives it a depth and dimension that other greens of this genre (Orly Mint Mojito, OPI Go On Green, Essie Mint Candy Apple, etc. lack. BTW, all of the colors I listed are stunning in their own respects, don't get me wrong!).

For just $1.99 a bottle, I think this is a must-have. Every time I look down at my hands I'm instantly happy, because it's just such an uplifting shade for spring. Also, it totally, TOTALLY reminds me of a jadite mixing bowl I own (and covet). If you are unfamiliar with jadite, it's a type of dishware made by Anchor Hocking that was quite popular in the 40s, 50s and 60s. Jadite pieces sell for a pretty penny nowadays, which is ironic because in the 50s it was considered a cheapie type of product that was used in cafeterias. Little did they know then that thousands and thousands of men and women today would WORSHIP all things jadite today!

So, how do you feel about Sinful Colors Mint Apple? Are you excited to snag a bottle of your own? Do you already have one? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Pretty color! Unfortunately I don't live very close to a wags. If I do get it there I will have to make my bf stop when we are driving the bass player for his band home. I tell him I need tampons so he stops and then I go to the beauty aisle!

  4. Aww, I love your swatches! Gorgeous. I'm so glad you got yourself this.
Thank you so much for the shout out! ♥

  5. I really love this polish. It does look just like jade to me, rather than being a mint green shade, so since it wasn't what I expected I was disappointed at first. But now I absolutely love the color and I've been getting GREAT wear out of it. Normally I have tipware after a couple days, but I think I did my nails on Wednesday and still don't have any. It looks just like it did the day I polished it!

  7. YES! I only discovered Sinful Colors when a co-worker of mine gave me 2 of their polishes for Christmas, and at first I was skeptical, but they're great! And for so cheap, and they have a variety of colors!

  8. There's also another green-ish color I've seen on other blogs called Rise and Shine. I've never seen these in real life though :( .
    Thanks for the swatches!

  9. Ooooo. Nice! I'll have to check this one out.
There's also a similar green from Claire's called Dream Catcher (it's a pastel green with subtle matching shimmer.)
Personally, I like the added shimmer in mint colors much better than creme shades. I own Mint Candy Apple and it reminds me of Mylanta.

  12. PoorCollegeStudent: LOL! Well, do whatever you gotta do to get in there, then! :D

Sandi: Yeah, I just could not wait any longer for a BOGO because, with my luck, by the time one hits, these new greens will be all sold out. :(

Victoria: It's been my experience that it's hit or miss with some of the Sinful Colors shades. Some colors are awesome, streak-free and stay on my nails forever without chipping, while others are a bit streaky and peel off my nails within a day or two. So it's definitely hit or miss, but lately I've been finding a lot more hits than misses! And this shade is AWESOME. It's lasted me three days so far with very little tip wear. :)

Nicole: Aww, thank you so much, honey!! And you are so welcome! If you blog wasn't so darn awesome I wouldn't be linking to it all the time. lol! xo

Hana: Yay!! I am SO glad to hear you've having great luck with this shade too! That's awesome! :)

rayqueenbee: LOL!!! Honey, you crack me UP!! :D I'm sorry if I have enabled you to break your no-buy, but...I can't help myself! lol. ;)

Amy: I agree! A huge selection of shades plus a cheap price makes Sinful Colors a combo you just can't beat! :)

colormepinkenblue: I'm so sorry you haven't been able to see these in real life yet. :( I promise they're even prettier in person! And thanks for the heads-up about the other color! :)

Heather: Mylanta!!! LOL!!!! OMG, that cracks me up! Now I'm going to always think of that whenever I see a green creme. :)

Anon: I don't think I've seen the Revlon version of this shade! Do you know the name of it? Thanks! :)

LaVogue: Yay!! So glad you love it too! And yup, I couldn't wait for a darn BOGO either. lol. :)

  13. Lovely color! I just wore this the other day. GORGEOUS. Although my bottle was kind of thick... I think it needs some thinner. Was yours thick at all? Also, could you do a post on your nail care? My nails are having a rebellion, I think. It is a sad day! LOL

  16. The revlon colour is called "Minted" and it is part of their new spring colours here in Canada anyways I would assume it is the same down here. I put it on last night and it is a bit lighter then the Sinful colour but no shimmer in it.

  17. Cynthia: You know, now that I think about it, it was kind of thick, but nothing too severe. I had no problem getting two thin layers on my nails, but I can see how, a little longer down the road, I'll definitely need to add a few drops of thinner. :) And yes, I've actually been asked by a few people to do a nail care post, so I'll write something but be warned, I am horrible with my nails! lol. So I probably won't have much to contribute! :)

Jakeline: I actually mentioned that exact shade in this review! lol. Um, to me the Essie is a lot different because it's a creme with no shimmer, and this definitely has shimmer to it. Hope that helps! :)

princess azure: LOL!! Then there's nothing stopping you from going and getting a bottle, right? Can't wait to see what you think of it when you see it in person. :)

Anon: I'm going to have to look for that--I haven't seen displays for those new spring colors yet but I will definitely be on the hunt now. Thanks! :)

  18. I just recently purchased this at my local walgreens (per your review) and I love it! My only issue with it so far is that it took me three coats to get the opacity I wanted. Other than that it's a really pretty spring color! I swatched the maybelline minty nail polish from their spring collection and it was really bad - unflattering and the formula was terrible. I love the micro-silver subtle shimmer. It still looks creme but more sophisticated. Love it!

  19. I bought this a week ago but have not had the opportunity to wear it.
The other day @ Walmart, I discovered a whole new range of colors that have come out by Nicole by OPI. I grabbed the Hint of Mint bottle. It is a minty light green with a hint of shimmer...super beautiful. It is not cheap though (7.99). But so worth it. It goes on a bit streaky first coat and then by the second coat it is perfect. However, to get an opaque nail, you need three coats. Also some really pretty colors by PURE ICE also at Walmart . I bought First Time,a metalic light green.
