02 October 2015 Play! by Sephora Beauty Box
(retail: $10 + free shipping for Play! by Sephora subscribers)
If you caught my first post containing a look inside the very first Play! by Sephora Beauty Box, then you know that there was a sneak-peek in that post for the second box, which was to be titled "Secrets to Dewy Skin". Well thanks (once again) to reader @nonamemary on Instagram, I have some pics of the second box to share with you today! So let's take a look.
NOTE: If you're new to the Play! by Sephora beauty box subscription service, at this time you can only subscribe by invitation, so be sure you're signed up HERE to be notified when it's available in your area. Eventually, I believe this service will be nationwide, but for now you have to wait for Sephora to invite you to join.

Contents of 02 October box, with notes from @nonamemary:
- Sephora Masque Perle (Pearl Mask) - 24g / .84oz (full-size)
- Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb - 10ml / .34 fl. oz (previously a free deluxe sample with promo code available this past August)
- Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Instant Infusion Treatment Toner - 1.5ml / .5 fl oz.
- Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser - 30ml / 1 fl oz.
- Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal (I’ve never looked for one of these in-store so not sure how this size compares to the full-size @ $15)
- Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Day Tint Moisturizer SPF 15 - 5ml / .17oz
- Atelier Cologne Mandarine Glaciale - (no specs provided here, but it’s the typical vial sample size given free with purchase)
With the exception of the mask, these are all deluxe samples (or in the case of the Atelier cologne, just a regular size sample).

As with the first box, you also receive a booklet with product information about each item.

@nonamemary also kindly included a shot of what it looks like when you scan the product page in the booklet with your phone, for more product info.

And just like with the first box, you also receive a PLAY! Pass card which you can redeem in-store to earn an extra 50 Beauty Insider points with any in-store purchase. This card can only be used by the PLAY! subscriber and redeeming multiple passes will still only result in 50 points. So you cannot use this card multiple times, and if your friend doesn't want to use his/her card and gives it to you to use, you're still only going to get 50 BI points total. This card is valid at Sephora and Sephora Inside JCPenney locations, and it expires 5/31/16.
Additional info from @nonamemary:
This month's box sort of had a "whomp whomp" moment. Check this out:

@nonamemary mentioned that when your box ships, you're able to see the list of products you'll be receiving on the Sephora site (when you're logged into your account). It's basically a preview of what to expect when your box arrives. But do you notice something above that was NOT included in the October box? Yep, no Becca Opal. Obviously @nonamemary was a little bummed about that (I mean, who would't be, right?). So she asked a friend of hers, who is also a Play! by Sephora subscriber, if she saw the Becca Opal in her preview too. She did, and she also did not receive one in her box. So @nonamemary contacted Sephora and received the following response:
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. The Becca Highlighter was originally the chosen item, but was switched with the Dr. Jart. At this time we aren’t offering the Becca Highlighter."
Kind of a bummer but hey, mistakes do happen. Perhaps Becca Opal will be part of a future box? Hopefully that's the case.
So what do you think of the second Play! by Sephora Beauty Box? How do you think it compares to the first? Will you be joining when this service is available in your area? If you are already a subscriber, what are your thoughts about the first two boxes?
Thanks again, @nonamemary, for another detailed look inside these boxes. I truly appreciate the photos as well as all of the extra info you provide for us!
the boscia konjac sponge is about 3 inches in diameter for the full size one
ReplyDeleteAaaah, thank you! So it looks like this one is maybe about half the size....
DeleteYeah, I came down here to say it looks like the mini version of the sponge, but still this box is a good deal for only $10. I can't wait until we're able to sign up over here in California!
DeleteKonjac sponge expand quite a bit once you add water to it.
DeleteGahhhh I can't wait until they add subscriptions across the US. I need this box in my life! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for this! I wonder how long before Ulta comes out with one too?
ReplyDeleteI think the first box was a little bit better. I have dry skin, but I feel like girls with oilier skin wouldn't like this. It's a shame there is no beauty quiz so you can get products that suit you.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great point! I'm getting the box right now and would really like if the products were suited to my personal needs. Overall I still like it though for about what I spend on 2 lattes.
DeleteMaybe I'm just jaded over subscription boxes in general, I've canceled my ipsy and Birchbox because they weren't really showing me anything ~new~... I guess I'll wait a few more boxes before I put myself on the waitlist for this one.
ReplyDeleteCall me old-fashioned, but I hate paying for samples. Samples IMO should be given to customers in order to get you to try & then buy full-sized products. Bah, humbug. And while I'm being old and crabby, heyyoudarnkids, get off my lawn! ;-)
DeleteLol I had a get off my lawn moment the other night. My boyfriend and I were in a busy restaurant parking lot waiting for a car to pull out so we could take their spot, and there was another car next to us filled with teenage boys and their stereo was SO LOUD that it was making my heart feel like it was rattling uncontrollably. You don't want to know the expletives I was shouting from inside our car. Lol. #oldladyproblems
DeleteI totally agree that samples should be free, especially if you don't even get to choose what you are sampling. Boxycharm has full size products, but I don't like the risk of getting a bunch of stuff that I may not be interested in. I would rather same the subscription cost for a couple months and get a high end product that I know I want.
DeleteI was able to redeem my 50 bonus points at. JCP Sephora just as an FYI.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you! I'll edit my post!!
DeleteWow, both the boxes looked awe-mazing. They need to hurry up and make this nationwide.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I'm really loving the products in these Play boxes. I canceled Ipsy because the products I was getting were just blah. I originally signed up because I was told Ipsy was mostly makeup (as opposed to Birchbox where it's mostly hair/skin products with some lame makeup thrown in every few months for good measure) but the makeup samples are always such unflattering colors. I'm all for exploring but, as my profile with Ipsy says, I'm close to 40 years old. I don't really want to experiment with neon orange lipstick or bright green nail polish. That made me realize that Ipsy seems to be catered for a younger crowd and I am a crotchety old lady now. So cancelled it was. I'm sticking with Birchbox for now because skincare products are things that interest my old lady self at the moment. Plus they have a great rewards points program. I saved all my Birchbox points for a few months then when I had $100 worth of points I cashed it in for a Clarisonic which I love. After applying all my points and using a 20% off code I got it for $0.00. I'm sticking with them for now as the next goal is to accrue enough points to start a sizable Benefit Cosmetics makeup collection. But I really hope this Play box becomes available in my area very soon. So far I like it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was notified that this beauty box was available..I ordered immediately and very pleased thus far..can't wait for next month's box :)
ReplyDeleteSo far I don't think this is a box for me. I don't get too excited about skin care products and prefer make-up so, for now, it's still Ipsy for me. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteI cant wait til I can subscribe. I am getting tired of getting ugly colors of pink matte lipstick in every box at Ipsy.
ReplyDeleteI was quite impressed with this box. I thought the theme was nicely executed and there was a nice variety of products to complete a full facial care regimen. It was definitely different from the first box which contained more makeup items. I think it will be interesting to see how this subscription plays (no pun intended!) out over the next few months as Sephora finds its footing and decides how to craft this subscription. At $10 per month, I feel like I'm getting an excellent deal with the opportunity to try these products, and based on my first two boxes, I plan to continue my subscription even if they have a few growing pains along the way.
ReplyDeleteThese boxes aren't turning out too badly. I'm actually digging this one because I've been wanting to try those Boscia goodies for a while now. I can't wait for this to open up nationwide. I hope it doesn't take too long to come to slow Michigan!
ReplyDeleteit's been (started) in my city and I still can't get in
ReplyDeleteThis needs to come to Atlanta!!!
ReplyDeleteI signed up for an invitation right when G. first posted about this sub box and I got my invite today 4/15/16! I signed up asap!!! I'm so excited!
