It's difficult to keep to the rules of my Review Blitz (nothing but product reviews for two weeks straight) when I keep getting news that I want to share with you immediately!
You all remember Revlon Skinlights, right? If you don't, let me refresh your memory a bit. I believe this line of illuminators came out in 2001, and it had almost a ten-year run at the drugstore, finally being discontinued around 2008-2009. The Skinlights line included liquid illuminators (I think there were seven shades released over the course of their lifetime--here's a review of two of them, to refresh your memory). The Skinlights line also included some illuminating loose powders like this, and in the UK they even had twist-up creme sticks (I don't think those ever made it to the US, but I could be wrong).
Anyway, the liquid illuminators were a HUGE hit here in the US. In fact, if you do a simple Google search for "Revlon Skinlights" you'll find many questions on beauty boards about finding a good dupe for Revlon Skinlights--people were really displeased when these were discontinued. They still have a large following to this day, and tubes of the original Revlon Skinlights are selling for upwards of $80 on sites like Amazon and Ebay.
Well, today my pal Halifax over at Sparkled Beauty brought to my attention this review of new Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights that are debuting in the UK in April. I have no idea if Revlon is bringing this new PhotoReady version to the US, but if you're a Skinlights fan from back in the day, I wanted to let you know that there's at LEAST a possibility that we may see a PhotoReady version here in the States at some point.
Were you a fan of the original Skinlights? Are you hoping to see them back (in new form) here in the US?
Thanks again, Halifax, for the heads-up about this one!
They better bring them to the us! If not I forsee me ordering from the UK if there anything like they were! ;P I loved those!
ReplyDeleteOh wow it has been forever since I owned skin lights. Hope they bring them back!
ReplyDeleteI still have one!! I need to go dig it out and re-love on it again.....
ReplyDeleteI don't remember these but I have a couple of the skinlights creme blushes which were awesome!
ReplyDeleteI am so pumped!! I loved Skinlights!
ReplyDeleteOh how exciting! I hope the US will get these.
ReplyDeleteSkinlights also had face palettes of pressed powder, illuminators, and bronzers. It would be nice if Revlon would bring back updated versions of these.
Woohoo! Now bring me the Rimmel foundation that they haven't brought to the us!
ReplyDeleteI agree! I'd take a break from my new love of CG 3-in1 to try that!
DeleteWhich one?
DeleteOh yes, I remember Skinlights. In fact, they also had blush and lipgloss and I believe cream eyeshadow. I still have some of the blush because I love the color, even though I know I'm breaking the cardinal rule for keeping makeup too long. But some colors just cannot be discarded no matter how old they are if a suitable replacement cannot be found! (At least that's how I justify it) :)
ReplyDeleteBut don't we already have dupes for those things? I thought Hardcandy "Glow All the Way" already come close...
ReplyDeleteUgh. I hated this stuff! It made my face look waaaaaaaaay shiny.
ReplyDeleteOld school! I've been 'editing' my makeup drawers and found a Skinlight lipstick. It's starting to make me feel old..
ReplyDeleteI LOVED that stuff! I constantly got comments on my dewy complexion when I wore it (mixed with my moisturizer). I was so bummed when it was discontinued and really, really hope it comes back soon!
ReplyDeleteI still have one! Its almost gone so I only use it on special occasions.
ReplyDeleteI remember these! I was young when they came out, so I wasn't sure how to use it. (Doesn't help that I picked a color that was completely wrong for my skin tone, lol.) These were really popular and were almost always sold out whenever I went to the store. I do remember this being in blush form too. This is exciting- I hope they come back!
ReplyDeleteSeriously??? I really hope thos is true! Skinlights was the first foumdation I ever used and I used to get so many compliments, it had the perfect dewy finish!
ReplyDeleteI still have a container if this loose powder (not sure why I'm hanging on to it, but I really loved it back in the day), and I just recently threw away a couple of old tubes of the liquid that I came across along with a face palette with highlighters and a bronzer. I was actually just wondering why Revlon discontinued this, so it will be interesting to see if it's the same if they bring it back!
ReplyDeleteI still have half a bottle of a gold one! Ha
ReplyDeleteI remember these! I was pretty young when they were around and I remember thinking they were expensive and luxurious for some reason and then my friend's mom bought them for us and we were in heaven. There was also a powder no? We had no idea how to use them at that time though!
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny that you're posting this! I was filming a makeup declutter video yesterday (not posted yet) and I had one of the loose powders that I haven't been able to let go of just yet. It was embarrassing to admit how old it was! I can't tell you how psyched I am for this to come back. No more hoarding 12 year-old products! Pretty gross, I know. But it's a powder! Right? Sure.
ReplyDeleteI still have a bottle of illuminating fluid and 2 jars of powder! I use them regularly, and stocked up when they were discontinued. This is fantastic news and I hope it comes here!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope they do come back-I always wanted to try them but I never did! I wasn't as into makeups at the time, so I missed my chance. ;)
ReplyDeleteI still have a tiny tube or two of the Ultima II skinlights from a long time ago. Since Revlon owns/owned(?) that company, I wonder if the product was transitioned over from Ultima II to Revlon at some point.
ReplyDeleteI still have a bottle of the illuminating fluid, and I love it. I've tried other highlighters, (liquid-Benefit/Becca, cream-Jemma Kidd, various powders), but for some reason, I still love the Skinlights the best. Part of the appeal is the smell - I love the way it smells!. Totally agree with the other posters about breaking the old makeup rule - but I justify it because it came in a pump - ha.
ReplyDeleteI know Revlon recently had a Spa Illuminator that was said to be similar to the Skinlights line. I think they have discontinued that product as well. I do hope they bring them to the USA. That would be a special day! lol
ReplyDeleteI know this is a month old now, but we have it here in Australia now :) It is everything i remember the orignal to be, but not the same smell though (it has no smell at all). We have it in a pink shade, nude shade, and a bronzer.
ReplyDeleteI will be so, so sad if these don't come back here in the States!
