The Lipstick League - Week of 1.16.16

The Lipstick League Question of the Week

What sort of beauty trends do you predict will be popular in 2017?

G's answer: I think that facial masks of every kind are going to be big again this year, and we'll probably see more metallic finishes in cosmetics and nail polish. I also think that the no-heat trend in haircare is going to explode this year, with lots of different offerings for no-heat styling products (and I could not be happier about that since I don't use heat styling). And I really, really, really hope that a no-filter trend is on the horizon for 2017. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of seeing filtered and air-brushed skin every time I open my Instagram. I want to see beautiful REAL skin, with visible pores, fine lines, freckles, beauty marks, etc. I just want to see actual human skin for a change, and makeup looks that are achievable for the everyday person (without the help of five filters).

Phyrra - Looking for a comfortable liquid lipstick? I've got the new Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipsticks to show you! See which shades are must-haves and which to skip.

Prime Beauty - Satisfy your sweet tooth with the Deluxe Whoopie Pie Gift Set from FarmHouse Fresh!

we heart this - Gingerbread, Matcha Tea and Raw Mint...it's as delicious as it sounds, and it's just one of the BPAL Yule scents that is a legit must-have.

Beautygeeks - has found the best sunglasses for a beach vacation, especially if you’re sick of shades that suction themselves to your cheeks – and they’re super affordable!

Beauty Junkies Unite - Amber spoke to a dozen beauty junkies, just like you -- who told her all about their favorite facial mists that are great multi-taskers for hydration, reducing skin inflammation, and for prepping and setting makeup. See which ones made the cut!

Blushing Noir - Finding a decent cream highlight and contour product is a STRUGGLE. In this post I’ve picked a few favorites that are affordable and a few that are a bit more pricey.

  1. Hi G!!! I agree with you on the instagram trend. I am so exhausted, i also dont wanna open my app nowadays. Everyone looks like everyone and its just really uninspiring at this point. I feel like it nice but this trend has stuck around a lot longer than i would have wished. If anything it has made me actually embrace my natural curly hair and I've worn less makeup than ever because I crave something different than what is being trendy right now. I hope the less is less approach takes the reins this year!!! <3

    1. I hear you, Gabriela. And I completely agree. I want nothing more than for brands and beauty lovers alike to embrace and promote uniqueness, and I hope we see a shift away from everyone having the same skin, brows, makeup look, etc. in 2017. I mean, those looks are lovely but when that's ALL you see, it just get monotonous and completely UNinspiring. :(

  2. Also I'm over the over drawn lips that I have been seeing all over Instagram. Let's all keep the lipstick inside the lines!

  3. I hear you on the Instagram trend. I'm tired of everything being too much of the same. I find it incredibly annoying that so many people seem to be trying to erase their features and draw on some Hollywood version of what they find beautiful. Looking the same isn't that appealing, especially if it takes that much work.

I'm also hoping the bold brow trend dies down. When someone's brows look like they've been stenciled on with magic marker, that's not good! Not everyone can rock that bold a brow, no matter how much they'd like to.

As for trends, I do agree I think we'll see some other textures like metallics in lips and nails, and maybe eyeshadows? I'm thinking glitter will be popular, too. I hope to see more duochrome shimmery eyeshadows myself!

I'm wondering if peach is going to be a huge color this year, with Too Faced's rollouts. Seeing more blush in makeup mags and blogs, I hope that'll start replacing contouring, because I'm bored with that.

Curls and waves do seem to be making more of a comeback, too, which has me hopeful for even more products catering to that. I very rarely heat style, so if there are leave-ins on the horizon, bring them on!

  4. I've said it before, and I'll say it until I see it at the grocery store: BLUE BLUSH. I would never wear it, but that is my Jetson's version of the future. Or at least dark colors in the contour a la Grace Jones. Like eggplant and navy. But seriously folks: two-tone lips. I am sure people have been mixing and matching for their upper and lower lip for fun forever, but as an actual trend, I think it is cute. Might just not work in real life when you want to press your lips together.
