Unboxing: Amazon Spring 2016 Luxury Beauty Box (Plus: New Discount Code)

Since so many of us purchased the latest Amazon Luxury Beauty Box when I blogged about it (no longer available), I thought it would be nice to not only compare the contents with each other, but also to have a record of this box on my blog for the NEXT time they offer one. I'll of course post here the moment I know there's a new one available but until then, let's check out what I received in my box and how it compare to what you may have received.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a new discount code that you can use in the Amazon Luxury Beauty Department right now. Enter code LUXBOX16 at checkout to receive $10 off your $50 purchase. One use per customer, expires 5/30/16. You can only use this code on items in the Luxury Beauty Department HERE that are both sold and shipped by Amazon. and I believe that all of those items come with free shipping. Also, don't forget that certain items like theBalm Mary Lou Manizer are available at a discount (around $21 right now; full retail is $24) and theBalm Bahama Mama ($17 right now; full retail is $20). So keep an eye on the prices as you shop because you may be able to get an even better deal when you factor in the Amazon price plus the discount code (and free shipping).

The Spring 2016 Amazon Luxury Beauty Box retailed for $8.99 + free shipping, but you could also get it for free (no payment at all) if you purchased a qualifying item from the Luxury Beauty Department. You can still view the original listing HERE (again, it's no longer available). I have to tell you that when I received this box, it really did feel like a "luxury" item. I love the clean, simple packaging with the black bow (see pic above).

The description of this box indicated that you would receive AT LEAST 13 pieces, but possibly more. From the Amazon website:

Example Samples Included (May Vary):
1. L'Occitane Almond Milk Concentrate Body Cream .2 oz.
2. La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid, 0.1 fl oz
3. Euphoria by Calvin Klein .04 fl. oz.
4. TOPPIK Hair Fattener, 1.0 oz
5. AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream, 0.68 fl oz
6. VICHY Idealia Life Serum, 0.05 fl oz
7. Vincent Longo, samples will vary
8. NUXE Merveillance Expert Regenerating Night Cream, 0.05 oz
9. bliss Aloe Leaf + Peppermint Foot Patrol, 1.0 fl oz
10. Julep Nail Polish Color Treat, Carla It Girl, 0.27 fl oz
11. Shaveworks The Cool Fix, 1.0 oz
12. LIERAC Mesolift Serum
13. SABON Shower Oil, Delicate Jasmine

So let's see how accurate that description was, shall we?

This is the same code I mentioned above, so please see the top of my post for more info about how to use this code.

First, the fragrances:

The only fragrance mentioned in the box description was "Euphoria by Calvin Klein .04 fl. oz.". So the Catherine Malandrino Romance de Provence and Juicy Couture Malibu fragrances were a surprise. I like that these are all bigger vials and two have spray nozzles (these aren't the super tiny vials you sometimes get with fragrance samples).

Next up, body care:

As indicated in the box description, I received all of the following:
  • La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid, 0.1 fl oz
  • Shaveworks The Cool Fix, 1.0 oz
  • AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream, 0.68 fl oz
  • bliss Aloe Leaf + Peppermint Foot Patrol, 1.0 fl oz
  • L'Occitane Almond Milk Concentrate Body Cream .2 oz.

I also received a SABON product (which was stated in the box description) but my product was a Delicate Jasmine body lotion (the SABON Shower Oil in Delicate Jasmine is listed in the box description).

I also received a deluxe tube of Marvis toothpaste, which was not listed in the box description at all.

Close-ups of the body care products:

Next up, skincare:

As indicated in the box description, I received the following threes items:
  • VICHY Idealia Life Serum, 0.05 fl oz
  • NUXE Merveillance Expert Regenerating Night Cream, 0.05 oz
  • LIERAC Mesolift Serum

Next up, haircare:

As indicated in the box description, I received the following item:
  • TOPPIK Hair Fattener, 1.0 oz

Next up, nail polish:

As indicated in the box description, I received the following item:
  • Julep Nail Polish Color Treat, Carla It Girl, 0.27 fl oz

It should be noted that this polish is one of two full-size items in this box. Carla It Girl is a pale pink creme and this exact bottle retails for $14 on the Julep website.

And finally, makeup:

The box description indicated that we would receive "Vincent Longo, samples will vary". I took that to mean that we would receive a SAMPLE because that's what it says, right? NO! I was so surprised to see a FULL-SIZE Vincent Longo eyeshadow here! So in addition to the Julep polish, which is full-size, I  also received a full-size high-end eyeshadow.

The Vincent Longo Sun Moon Stars trios retail for $30 both on Amazon and the Vincent Longo website. The trio I received is Seduction.

To sum this up, I received EVERYTHING listed in the Amazon description (the only slight variance being the SABON product; I received a body lotion instead of a bath oil). Plus, I receive two additional fragrance samples, a deluxe tube of toothpaste, and a full-size Vincent Longo eyeshadow trio (I was expecting a sample, not a full-size product). In total, I received 16 items; the 13 listed plus 3 additional items.

Adding up JUST the two full-size items in this box, that comes to $44. So whether you paid $8.99 for this box or received it for free with a qualifying purchase, I think that if you received what I received, it was an EXCELLENT value. I can't understand some of the negative reviews on the Amazon site for this box (most of the reviews are positive but there are some negative reviews), unless the contents that other people received are dramatically different from what I received.

I would absolutely take a chance and purchase this box again if Amazon offers one in the future (hopefully they will, since I think this is the second time they've done this).

BONUS PICS:

You may recall that the promotion BEFORE the Luxury Beauty Box was a sample promo (I blogged about that a few times, actually, when it was still available). This promo included a variety of samples that you could purchase from the Amazon Luxury Beauty Department for between $1 and $3 each. And the great thing was that you received a credit for the purchase price of each sample, to be used on a future Amazon Luxury Beauty purchase. So you basically got free samples.

If you took advantage of this promo when I blogged about it and, like me, you forgot that you had those credits in your account, then hopefully you used those credits to purchase your Luxury Beauty Box. That's EXACTLY what I did.

All of the Orlane serum samples you see above (and below) were $3 each, the Bliss mask sample was $1, and the Strivectin sample was $3. After purchasing those samples, I was credited with $13 in my Amazon account, which I then turned around and used toward the Amazon Luxury Beauty Box ($8.99). In other words, I didn't pay a penny for the beauty box and I still have some credits left over.

I wasn't expecting that Strivectin sample to be this big. I mean, 1.7 oz is pretty much the size of a full-size hand cream for most brands.

PLUS: Amazon threw in an absolutely FREE sample on top of those samples. When my samples arrived, I discovered that they also gave me this Nivea Men Cream sample, plus two coupons ($1 off after shave products and $2 off shave cream)! Totally wasn't expecting that.

I believe that this is the exact sample that you will receive if you sign up for this freebie through the Nivea site HERE. I've blogged about that freebie before and it's still available at the time of this post. So now you get to see what it looks like if you didn't get it before:

If you ordered the Amazon Luxury Beauty Box when it was still available (and/or the samples from the sample promo), I would absolutely LOVE to hear from you. Did the contents of your box match mine? Are you happy with what you received? Chime in below!

  1. I received everything that was indicated in the description, including the Sabon shower oil. I got the eyeshadow trio in curious violet, which has a pastel blue, pink and a darker purple shade. I wore it already and loved it! I got the Marvis toothpaste in whitening mint and three perfume samples as well: Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris, Calvin Klein Euphoria and Juicy Couture Malibu. I'm definitely happy with the purchase. Only $3 out of pocket after using my Amazon credits.

    1. Awesome!!! I'm so glad you're enjoying your box too, and that the contents weren't wildly different from mine. Great to know! And yes, for $3 out of pocket I think you scored! :D

  3. I would purchase this box too if they ever came out with something again. It's definitely way more value than I ever got from my Birchbox sub & also some of the Target & Walmart subs!

    1. See, someone in the review section said that this box wasn't nearly as good a value as the Target boxes, and I was like, "Huh??" Don't get me wrong--I love the Target boxes too, but sometimes the value of those isn't nearly as good as THIS box. Anyway, so glad you're happy with it!!! :)

  4. I will have to look again at home. Most of mine matches yours. I got the shower oil and wish it had been lotion. The oil leaked in my box. :(. I don't remember the colors of eyeshadow I got and my polish matches yours. I found out quick that I can't use the sunscreen it has something in it that I react extremely poorly to. So that's going to a friend instead. She may get the perfume too since I don't wear perfume. :)

  5. I have the LaRoche 60 SPF lotion and it is a MUST! For such a high SPF, it isn't chalky, gooey, sticky or difficult to rub in. I love it!!!

  6. That Nivea sample does match the one you can score online. It's a generous size, where you'd get a few uses out of it for moisturizing hands, etc. It feels good, too, but sadly it's too strongly scented for my tastes. Otherwise I'd be in a vat of it right now.

  9. I ordered mine when you posted about it originally and still haven't received it. :( I'm so sad because I have never had issues with Amazon (I have had prime for years) so I'm super bummed! I'm hoping I can still get it and they don't just refund me because I really want it!

    1. This was from a previous deal. They had buy sample for $1 and they would give you a credit for $1 after it shipped.
