The Wednesday Question (Favorite Foundation of the Moment Edition)

What is your current go-to foundation? Also, what's your skin type and why do you like this particular foundation?

My response: this week's question was inspired by reader Ashley's comment on my recent Sephora post. She wanted to know what powder foundations I like to use with my Sephora Multitasker Brush, and that got me thinking about how much I've learned to love the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Powder Foundation (which I bought when Clinique was doing one of their free shipping + samples offers that I tend to post about). It's ridiculously pricey ($27) so I would ONLY get it if there was a good discount/sale/free gift promo. And thank goodness this compact is lasting me a VERY long time. I've been using it for months now, and I keep expecting to hit pan...but I never do. So that makes the price a little bit more digestible!

I actually didn't like this foundation when I first started using it, because I originally used the accompanying sponge and it deposited way too much product. I was a cakey mess by mid-day, and the powder settled into fine lines I didn't even know I had. But now that I use the Sephora brush and buff it into my skin, I quite like it! It doesn't oxidize on me, it provides excellent coverage, and the staying power is awesome. I have super oily skin, and this powder keeps me looking fresh for hours. By about 1 or 2 in the afternoon I do have to use an oil blotting sheet, but then I'm good to go for the rest of the day. Plus, pressed powder foundation is so fast and easy to apply--and you know I'm all about that.

As for drugstore powder foundations, I'm afraid that I haven't liked any that I've tried in a very long time (which is precisely what compelled me to try the Clinique product). I am currently testing the new NYX Hydra Touch Powder Foundation ($19.99) for review, but it's too early for me to have an opinion on that one yet. I got that product at Ulta when they were having a BOGO1/2OFF sale + $3.50 off coupon (it's currently part of the B2G1FREE sale). I would never get it if it weren't on sale though, because $19.99 is crazy for drugstore foundation. Right?

  1. High-end - Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation

    Those are my faves!

  2. I just got enough guts to visit MAC inside of Macy's (it used to really intimidate me) and was color matched and tried Studio Fix Fluid. It's the only foundation I have that is a good match for my skin! I am NC13. I also recently splurged on Estรฉe Lauder Double Wear and LOVED the finish at first. The color match was slightly off but not too bad. My skin is acne prone (it's a nightmare) with both oily and dry patches. I would like to find something that gives me a nice, not overly oily, glow though. My other picks are Loreal Infallable and True Match. Cover Girls ready set go (I think that's what it's called) is almost perfect but about 2 shades too dark ๐Ÿ˜ญ

    1. Try the new Milani 2 in 1 foundation, it has amazing coverage plus does not cling to dry patches!

  4. My current obsession is the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo foundation. It covers all of my blemishes and red spots even without concealer. I have really super oily skin and no other foundation has managed to not melt off my skin during the day even with primer, but this stuff has managed to stay on my face for an entire day while making my face look flawless.

  5. I used Bare Minerals for over a decade, religiously. I had no other foundations in the mix. It worked for me. Just this year, I had to abandon it. My aging skin has dry patches, fine lines, and discolorations now. I found I needed to move to a liquid foundation with more coverage. I've been using Maybelline Fit Me and Benefit Play Stick.

  6. I have slightly sensitive skin that's gone from combo to dry as I've gotten older. I started using powders as foundations almost 18 years ago. My breakouts went down and my skin's clarity went up. Alima Pure is my go-to for now but it's gone up to $28 which is high. I need to start looking at drugstore options.

  7. Higher end - Laura Gellar's baked liquid radiance foundation. It came in a set and I found that I really like everything about it - the color, the look & feel, how it wears, etc. Except the applicator. It's weird, but I can work around that.

Drugstore - Rimmel BB cream (standard BB, blue lid) - I use it as a tinted moisturizer w/sunscreen (SPF 25)

  8. My drugstore faves are everyone's drugstore faves (Revlon Colorstay, Cover Girl 3-in-1, etc.) BUT one that I liked but ended up abandoning was the Hard Candy Glamoflauge. I've always thought that I had combo skin, but any place that I was the tiniest bit dry, it seemed to stick and make look drier. Might be a good option for you if you have oilier skin? I loved the coverage, staying power, and shade match. I feel like I'm likely preaching to the choir, as you check out nearly every drugstore foundation out there to report back for us (thank you!), but just an idea in case. (ALSO: so cheap!)

  10. MUFE Ultra HD in the stick. I love the color match and the way the formula feels on my dry skin. I like the liquid version as well, but I wanted to try out the stick version and am in love with the ease of application. I also really like Too Faced Born This Way, but the lightest color was too dark for me (at the time). I'm interested to try out the two lighter shades that are out now. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Tarte 12 hour Tinted BB Primer (the name is something like that). It slides on so well and covers just the right amount for a BB cream. It's also light enough that you could put foundation on top of it (since it's a primer) if you wanted more coverage.

  11. I use a drugstore foundation, Cover Girl + Olay Tone Rehab, which I adore, and a high-end finishing powder, Urban Decay Naked, and that combo works well for me (aging dry skin).

  12. Becca Luminous for high end, and L'oreal True Match for drugstore.

  13. I have way too many foundations( and samples). I have 3 samples on my counter and I no idea what they are( from Sephora). I think one is the new Stila gel type foundation. That being said, the last prestige foundation I bought was MUF Ultra HD. I've wanted to try MAC prolongwear. I went for color matching and a sample and the lady said I was NW20. It looked fine in the store, but seems rather light at home in my own bathroom. I might go back for the next shade up. I'm still working on a bottle of MAC matchmaster in 2.0 that I bought in September 2013, right before I got married( like the day of). LOL. For drugstore, I'm using 2 bottles of CG outlast. One in radiant, one is regular.

  14. I use Laura Geller Balance and Brighten. I use no other and don't try. I apply it with the big fat Kabuki brush it came with. It's pricey but a compact will last me a year. I put it on in the morning and stays true until I take it off at night. Unless I work out in it, which I don't do often.

  15. I am absolutely loving the new Urban Decay One and Done, it's so lightweight in coverage and feel but does amazing things for the look of my skin. It looks so luminous and "your skin but better" on my face. I prefer a really light coverage foundation and I have combination skin. It's been on for 7 hours and I haven't needed to blot or powder, it hasn't broken up or creased. It's truly a skin loving product with so many great ingredients!

  17. High end-Estee Lauder double wear. I can wear it from 9am till 1am and it still looks perfect.
Drugstore-Was L'oreal Magic Nude until they discontinued it, now it's Cover Girl ready set gorgeous(can't believe I like a Cover Girl product). It doesn't last all day(about 8 hours) but the coverage is amazing.

  18. I'm a Clinique foundation girl all the way. Lately I've been using Perfectly Real. For drugstore I've been loving Revlon Colorstay Whipped. I have pretty bad acne scars so I top my liquid foundation with a powder foundation and it's usually Bare Minerals but I pulled out my Laura Geller Balance and Brighten and I am falling in love with it all over again!

  19. I have normal to slightly oily skin (especially in the summer, of course) and up until recently my go-to high end foundation has been Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation with a pump of Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer mixed in. I can't get enough of that glow, lol. But recently I got a tube of the IT Cosmetics CC cream as I've been really curious about it, and I LOVE the way it feels on my skin. I'm very fair and burn easily so I wear sunscreen every day, usually underneath my foundation because I like to use at least 30 spf and most foundations don't go that high if they have anything at all. Because the cc cream is 50 spf I can skip that step when I use it, and it's like I'm not wearing anything at all, my skin just feels silky soft and like it can breathe. It's awesome.

For drugstore foundation I generally stick with Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation. It's got great coverage but it feels really light, and it smells fantastic.

  20. I can't believe more people are not saying the l'oreal infallible. I get so many compliments when I wear it. I feel like it has the coverage of revlon color stay but not the heavy feel. My favorite expensive is the Marc Jacob.

  21. I have yet to find a foundation that I really love. I like matte to natural finishes, but everything I try is either too sheer or can't be built well. Meh.

  22. Eh. Kind of bored with foundation at the moment...but high-end would be toofaced born this way low-end probably. Boots beautifully matte or rimmel lasting finish.

  23. Combo skin here too and I'm about out of my Sinful Colors foundation. Yes, it's ancient, but it was the best match for my practically white skin ever. So old or not it's mine. I'm trying E.L.F. Now and while I like the texture, the color is off for my skin tone. I hate having to shop for new brands.

  24. High end: IT Cosmetics CC+ Illumination foundation in Light + Bye-Bye Pores translucent powder.

  25. This post speaks to me. I recently finished 3 foundations (they were hanging around with 50% or less product) and currently hating how my foundations looks on me (trying out 2 new ones I purchased in the last month). I am so tempted to go to target and buy the Loreal True Match because I love that and finished it back in November.. However I still have 5 others to go through.... :(

  26. Omg the Lancรดme stick foundation exclusive at Sephora is sooooo soft and easy to blend and looks gorgeous and I just blend it with me hands in a second. It's to die for silky.

  27. I am a giant foundation freak, always looking for the next magical product. Ones I like include Maybelline Fit Me stick, Pond's BB (sadly d/c), and UD Naked Skin...I mix two shades. I am pale and cool with surface redness, so evening things out is a primary concern. Oh, and "mature." Haha.

  28. My skin is pretty much normal these days, where I used to be a bit oilier in the T-zone. I probably use the Rimmel BB cream with the orange cap (for radiant skin, evening out tone, etc.) the most, since it's a good match for my skin and performs well (not too drying, etc.) and if I sweat I don't look like a melting wax figure. I also like the Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Spotless CC Cream. I've been doing more BB and CC creams lately because I get a bit of moisturizing and sun protection with those. Now and then I'll use mineral foundation (MBA Cosmetics has an allegedly healing one I like that works well for me), but it's mostly BB and CC cream paired with concealer. My main goal is to get my skin looking better so I need as little makeup as possible come summer.

  29. I rarely use full-coverage foundations and tend towards BB creams/tinted moisturizers that can be applied with fingers. I have combo skin with pretty intense extremes - huge pores, really oily T-zone, usually need to blot after 3 hours, and really dry patches on my cheeks and chin and around my nose where product tends to cling. I just started using the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint and so far I'm impressed - it truly sets, doesn't look cakey, blends in well even when my skin tone changes a bit, and stays matte into the afternoon! I used to looove the L'Oreal Magic BB cream because of its pore-blurring abilites, but it never really set and I had shine break through really quickly. I'm appreciating my splurge!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Loreal infallible pro-matte. I use either the lightest or second lightest shade and it's a great match. It doesn't oxidize and it keeps me mostly shine free. I just have to set with powder and use blotting papers around hour 5-6 but then again my skin is super oily! I apply it with a damp beauty blender and it makes my skin look great!
In the summers I end up switching to a BB cream with Meow Minerals powder foundation over it. It's much better than B.E, none of the itchy ingredients. I also use a green color corrector under the bb cream on days where my rosacea flares up.

  31. As of right now high end= Urban Decay power foundation and lancome tient idol liquid foundation. Drugstore=Maybelline fit me matte and loreal infallible pro matte.

  32. L'Oreal True Match N7, and for days when I have less time: MAC Studio Fix powder plus foundation in C7 and NC50 (depending on time of year).
