NEW L.A. Colors & Broadway Colors Matte Cosmetics from Dollar General
(retail: $1.50 each)

Did you hear the news? L.A. Colors has released some new matte lip and eye products! These products are so new, they're not even on the L.A. Colors website yet (as of the time of this post). In fact, I think the only place that you can get these right now is at Dollar General (and no, they're not on the Dollar General website as of the time of this post). They're also not available online yet at Dollar TreeTargetShop Miss A or ikatehouse as of the time of this post, but hopefully you'll be able to find these online soon in case you don't live near a Dollar General. If any of you spot these items in-store at retailers other than Dollar General, I would LOVE to hear from you. I know that the L.A. Colors Gel Polishes used to be Dollar General-exclusives, but those are now available at Target. So hopefully these new matte products will appear at other retailers in the future as well.

UPDATE: Thanks to reader Erica for pointing out that the True Matte Lip Colors you see pictured above are actually from the brand Broadway Colors. From what I can tell, this is an offshoot of the brand Broadway Nails. The display for the new Broadway Colors True Matte lip colors was also spotted at Dollar General.

Many thanks to longtime reader Alma (@rosamy13 on Instagram) for these great pics. Alma purchased two of the new Broadway Colors True Matte lip colors, four of the new L.A. Colors Matte Lipsticks, and 2 of the new L.A. Colors Matte Eyeshadow Palettes (all $1.50 each) at her local Dollar General this week and kindly shared some swatches:

New L.A. Colors Matte Lipsticks as swatched by Alma

Above are the four shades of the new L.A. Colors Matte Lipsticks that Alma purchased at Dollar General ($1.50 each).

From top to bottom:

Tender
In Love
Bewitched
Torrid

Alma said that she was surprised at how comfortable these were on her lips, and that they glided on smoothly without tugging. For $1.50, that's pretty fantastic, right?

New L.A. Colors Matte Eyeshadow Palette in Brown Tweed as swatched by Alma

Above is the L.A. Colors Matte Eyeshadow Palette in Brown Tweed ($1.50) that Alma purchased at Dollar General. Alma said that the shadows were quite soft but not powdery when she swatched them, and that they weren't bad for $1.50.

New L.A. Colors Matte Eyeshadow Palette in Natural Linen as swatched by Alma

Above is the L.A. Colors Matte Eyeshadow Palette in Natural Linen ($1.50) that Alma purchased at Dollar General. Alma said that these shadows swatched nicely, but that they were not as pigmented as the shadows in the Brown Tweed palette.

I do not currently know how many shades are in each range for the lip colors and palettes. I will update when I have more info.

Have you spotted any of these new L.A. Colors products out in the wild yet? If so, do you own any? I'd love to hear what you think!

Thanks so very much, Alma, for the great pics, swatches, and info. I really appreciate it!

  1. I have been searching for those lipsticks after seeing pics on IG. No such luck in my area, but I'm still hopeful I'll find them soon. I believe I saw someone post a pic of a full display of the
lipsticks. I didn't know about the eyeshadows and am excited to find them in stores too.

    1. Hey Erica! Thanks again for pointing out on IG that the True Mattes are from Broadway Colors, and not LA Colors! I'm updating my post now! xo

    2. You're welcome! I absolutely have no more room for anymore lipsticks but... I can't help it. I'm totally caving in and buying some of these lipsticks. Lipsticks are my weakness.

  2. Earlier this week I saw them in my Dollar General in the displays with the rest of the makeup thinking the had been out for some time and were unpopular because I couldn't find ANY swatches online! Didn't come to mind that they could be brand new! Def going back for these now.

  5. I bought one of the la colors matte lipstick and I agree it's not too bad for the price. I do need to reapply it after a few hours but it is easy to swipe on, & feels decent. The matte shadows are again, good for the price. Powdery and some colors are less pigmented but they blend easily and they're not dry.

  7. Those matte shadows look amazing for just $1.50. I will definitely have to stop in and look to see if I can find them. I am not going to buy any of the lipsticks because I have so much lip stick that I don't wear. Truth. Even told I have a lot of eye shadow I don't wear but I need more mattes in my life!

    Buy all the make up!!!!

  9. I also found them at my local Dollar General Store. I bought the color "Mad Love" which is a magenta/purple color that I normally wouldn't wear. But for $1.50 it's ok to try. And this one actually is not bad. Smells nice and kind of stains my lips. So it stays on for a pretty long time. I'll say if there is a color you just want to try go for it. Can't do wrong for that price

    1. The Lipstick is not Ruby Kisses, although the tube looks the same. It't by Broadway. I picked all the colors up except for the orange looking colors. I got all the LA. Colors Matte Lipsticks and 3 Eye shadows.

  11. I hadn't realized that Broadway is a part of Kiss Brand.

  12. I found these at my Dollar General today, and I bought one of the Broadway Colors True Matte lipstick in Where's Nemo (it's teal colored). I really like it. It's streaky with lip balm, but it's pretty opaque without lip balm. It looks drying on my lips, but it doesn't seem to dry my lips out. It's a great line of lipstick to try if you want to try some fun colors.

  13. I live within walking distance of DG. I've been toying with the idea of dark, saturated matte lip color and thought the price was right for an adventure in makeup. I bought Apple Picking and Chalice. I haven't tried Apple Picking yet, but Chalice (deep cobalt blue), is my new favorite thing. I've been sick and feeling less than pretty. Even with no makeup and jammies, it made an immediate improvement in my mood and perspective! It's a much better quality than the price range might suggest, but won't compete with things like MAC. I wouldn't expect it to, anyway. I intend to experiment with a light dusting of dark iridescent eyeshadow for better staying power (it fades strangely and I looked cyanotic) and more dimension. I want all of them!

  14. The matte shadows are fabulous.. especially for that price, but honestly they are just good. Buttery, no fallout or kick up, and blend so nice. You do have to build them a little but they haven't faded at all on me over primer (not even the light shades, and I have HE mattes that do worse). I was just shocked.. going back to get more.

  15. I bought the L.A. colors 5 color matte eyeshadow in "natural linen". Highly dissapointed. No color payoff at all. Impossible to blend. At least it was cheap. Its worthless. To get those swatches you probably had to press really hard into the shadow multiple times.
