The Lipstick League - Week of 2.8.16

The Lipstick League Question of the Week

Now that we’ve had a couple of months to process it, what are your thoughts about the Pantone 2016 Colors of the Year, Rose Quartz and Serenity (light pink and light blue)?

G's answer: considering that pastels in general look horrid on me when it comes to makeup and clothing (jewel tones work best for me), I'm not totally thrilled about the Pantone Colors of the Year for 2016 when it comes to beauty. It's sort of funny though, because my favorite color of all time is pale pink. I just try to stick to using that color in my home though, so I am looking forward to seeing that shade in housewares this year. In fact, the pull-chain for one of the lamps in my living room broke recently and I saw this cute Rose Quartz/Serenity colored one on Esty that I'm eyeing right now.

  1. I have dark brown hair and brown eyes and zero interest in either of these colors. Its funny because I just saw an eyeshadow Pantone color of the year( Emerald) at TJ Maxx on clearance. Its only a short matter of time before these two colors make it there.

  2. I like the colors for clothing but for makeup? No, because the colors wash me out. I would like wear a pale pink in lipstick or nail polish but they basically disappear on me and I'm blonde!

  3. LOVE IT! I love this year's Pantone color choice and the symbolism in this duality. Their reasoning is spot-on to me and every time I see it I smile. My skin tone is similar to G's but that doesn't stop from me using pastels-- I feel like pastels work well with neutrals and jewel tones.

  4. I love it! I'm a blue eyed blonde and both colors work for me.

  5. I agree with this article: http://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/color/news/a8168/2016-color-of-the-year/
I've been eyeing a shade of marigold for my living room, it looks so warm and inviting. Pastels are ok, but not my thing beyond Spring/Easter. Certainly NOT pink and blue together. I've already went through that time in my life lol

  6. The colors are pretty, but I see them more as ideal for walls, bedding, scarves and nail polish. I don't care for too-pale lipstick, and wearing too-pale eyeshadow makes my eye whites look yellow and everything else washed out. I tried those colors in the 1990s when I was pale bleach blonde -- I remember a Maybelline quad I had that had pale yellow, blue, pink and green and I played with that palette a lot and got it out of my system, in terms of eyeshadow at least. But bring those colors on for my surroundings, please!
