Review & Swatches: CoverGirl x Star Wars Limited Edition Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Emerald Blaze

By now, I'm sure you've all seen various displays for the CoverGirl x Star Wars limited edition collection makeup and nail polish at CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Target, etc. But what you MAY not know is that, when it comes to the nail polish in this collection, each retailer seems to have some slightly different shade options. I didn't know this was a "thing" but, thanks to several of you, I can confirm that the polishes at CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens all seem to vary a bit. I think some of the shades in this collection can be found at all retailers, but SOME may be exclusive to certain particular retailers.

UPDATE: Thanks so much to the readers below for letting me know that this shade IS a repromote from the permanent collection, and that this shade is also called Emerald Blaze in the permanent collection. So if you aren't too concerned with finding the bottle with the Star Wars logo, then just look for this in the permanent display (PS: I believe this was a new release for 2015, so if your drugstore hasn't incorporated the newest CG shades in into their core display yet, it should be there eventually). Duochromes always catch my eye (obviously), so I had to snap this up when I saw it in large end-cap CG Star Wars display at my Rite Aid about a week ago.

Whew! OK, let's get to some swatches.

CoverGirl x Star Wars Limited Edition Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Emerald Blaze
(retail: $4.99, 0.37 oz.)

As you can see, this is a green duochrome that shifts to a rusty-rose shade. Just gorgeous. I know that there are lots of shades like this out there (by mass brands and indies), but I think this one may most closely resemble the OPI Coca Cola collection shade Green on the Runway. Take a look at my pal Amber's swatches of the OPI shade HERE and tell me what you think. According to Amber, the OPI Coca Cola shade has a subtle shift, so I think that the CoverGirl x Star Wars shade might have a more intense shift (I don't own the Coca Cola shade, so I'm just basing this on how strong this shift is with this CG shade). So that's good news if you bought the OPI shade and were hoping for a more noticeable shift. You may want to try the CG shade instead!

All of the following swatches were photographed after two coats (no top coat). I photographed this polish in a variety of different lighting situations (outdoors in bright light, outdoors in shade, indoors in bright light and indoors in dim light) and angles, just to give you a better overall feel of what this polish has to offer.

As you can see, this polish is quite the chameleon depending on the lighting.

As for the formula, this one's a dream. It's almost a one-coater. In fact, if you went a little heavy with the first coat, you may just be able to stop there and not apply a second coat. The consistency of this polish is perfect--not too thick, not too thin, and it flows beautifully onto the nail. Dry-time was also great for both coats. I seriously have not one thing to criticize about this one. Gorgeous color, perfect formula, and so, so pretty (especially for the holidays).

FINAL VERDICT: If you like green duochromes, I think this one's worth the hunt if you don't already have something like it in your stash. It's a gorgeous color with a perfect formula. And I THINK it might be a dupe for the OPI Coca Cola Collection shade Green on the Runway, but with a more noticeable color shift (yay!).

Do you own any polishes from the CoverGirl x Star Wars collection? If so, which shades do you own, and what are some of your favorites in this collection?

  1. This is so pretty. But I'm SO disappointed that it's named Emerald Blaze instead of Forest Moon of Endor or something like that. I feel like they really didn't make an effort to actually make this collection very Star Warsy.

  3. I thought you should know, that this is very much a re-promote. I have the exact same color, same name. The only difference is the cap, if people want pictures I took some just in case! ^_^

  4. I'm pretty sure this shade is a repromote. I want to say it was released in the beginning of the year with a couple of others and I *think* it was also included in Cover Girls Hunger Games polishes. Still a lovely colour tho regardless.

  5. Thank you SO MUCH, everyone! I just updated my post with your info. I think that since this was a new release for 2015, my Rite Aid hadn't incorporated the newer shades into the permanent display yet, thus I didn't see it. What would I do with you? THANK YOU! :)

  7. This one has caught my eye in displays for a while (without the Star Wars logo) but I still haven't bought it. I'm not sure why, because it's gorgeous.

  8. I love that these polishes are made in France. I saw a few of the coca cola OPI polishes on clearance at TJ Maxx.

  10. Just an FYI - this IS a dead-on dupe for Green on the Runway. So if anyone missed that one this is a good alternative!

  11. Ugh, I really need to get my hands on this. I'm in love with that color. I want it even more because I'm a Star Wars junkie. I already got 3 of each of the lipsticks!! I totally forgot that there was even nail polishes in this collection. Looks like I gotta go on a hunt tomorrow after work.

  12. I'm not going to say I'm offended by this line, that's too strong a word, but I am disappointed. Cover Girl had such a great opportunity with the Star Wars line, but instead of coming up with new colors and products they just put a sticker on its old stuff and figure we geeks wouldn't know or care. They have light side and dark side mascara that are exactly the same thing. I was hoping they would be silver or red colored or at least one thickens and the other lengthens, but no just LashBlast with a sticker. Do they think we'll buy anything with Star Wars printed on it? As I said disappointed.
