NEW Revlon Colorstay Not Just Nudes Shadow Palette in 02 Romantic Nudes
(retail: $12.97 at Walmart; 0.5 oz.)

So Revlon is getting into the current drugstore palette game! I had no idea these were coming but thanks to reader Holly, who spotted this palette at her local Walmart this week, I have info and pics to share with you today!

Holly spotted this new palette, in 02 Romantic Nudes, all by itself at her local Walmart. I'm guessing someone put it out on the floor in advance of a fancy new display, but hey, it's here!

Empty Walmart display for the Not Just Nudes palettes

Many thanks to reader @mfprice2008 on Instagram for sharing the above pic of the (empty) display at Walmart that she spotted this week. There IS a second palette, and it's called 001 Passionate Nudes. I'm guessing that Passionate Nudes will contain warmer shades than Romantic Nudes.

Here are some close-up pics of Romantic Nudes from Holly:

This palette appears to contain a mix of matte and shimmer shadows.

Revlon Not Just Nudes counter display at Walgreens

Many thanks to reader @criistal_a on Instagram for sharing these pics of the counter display she spotted at Walgreens this week. We now have a photo of the other palette in this collection, Passionate Nudes:

Passionate Nudes and Romantic Nudes

As predicted, Passionate Nudes contains warm-toned shades (which I think we all guessed would be the case, since Romantic Nudes contains cool-toned shades). Nice to see them side by side, right?

As you can see, the configuration of these palettes is very similar to the Maybelline Nudes palettes. I pulled up my review of the original Maybelline The Nudes Palette and did this quick comparison:

The biggest difference here is that the Maybelline Nudes palettes all contain 12 shades, while the Revlon palette contains ten. But you get more product in the Revlon palette, since the total weight of the Revlon palette is 0.5 oz., while the total weight of the Maybelline palette is 0.34 oz. The pricing seems OK to me given the extra amount of product (the Revlon palette is $12.97 at Walmart vs. $9.97 for the Maybelline palette at Walmart). But remember, those are Walmart prices. When these Revlon palettes hit Ulta, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, etc., they'll probably be closer to $15. BUT, those retailers also run sales (40% off, BOGO1/2OFF, etc.) and you can also use coupons/store rewards with sales to bring the cost way down.

I also want to point out that the Revlon palette contains a dual-ended applicator with a brush on one side and a sponge on the other. The Maybelline palettes contain a dual-ended applicator with sponges on both ends.

I think the real test here is going to come down to quality. I've mentioned before that I don't think Revlon's powder eyeshadows are their strong suit (they rock it in the lip color and foundation department, as I'm sure we'd all agree, but they've never really been know for their powder shadows). I really hope these shadows are buttery and pigmented. Fingers crossed!

Side note: I feel like the name of this new line, "Not Just Nudes," is almost a response to the criticism I've heard from some of you as to the Maybelline Nudes palettes. Some of you have mentioned to me that not all of the Maybelline The Nudes palettes contain shades that would be considered "nude," despite having the word "nude" in the title. So maybe Revlon wanted to get things straight right up front with this name. It's like saying, "Yeah, there are some nudes here, but don't freak out because we're not claiming they're ALL nudes."

What do you think of Revlon getting into the drugstore shadow palette game? Are you excited to try this these? Or are you "meh" about the whole thing? I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks again, Holly and @criistal_a, for the fantastic sighting and pics. I really appreciate it!

  1. I have purchased all the Maybelline palettes... and although I cannot say they are awful... I just prefer some of my other palettes. Especially the makeup revolution ones. I think I will sit this one out. The quality and selection available for MR makes them hard to pass up (not to mention the price especially with Ultas coupons).

  2. I want to get excited about these new palettes in the drugstore... but it's hard to, because the quality just isn't there. I don't care about quality versus price... I just want nicely pigmented, smooth eye shadows! For now, I'll pay more money for better quality, but I'm hoping that this won't always the case in regards to eye shadow palettes (of course, Wetn'Wild is not included, because they have fabulous shadows). Thanks for sharing!

  3. I'm actually really excited for this (even though I shouldn't be lol I totally agree that revlons not too hot with eye shadows but...my inner palette junkie is very, very curious!) Of course I'll wait for swatches and reviews...and a sale haha I was really excited for the maybelline palettes too but I just saw too many meh reviews...I'm kinda proud of myself for not picking any up, but the new jewel tones one you showed us (a month ago? I don't remember) I'm very curious about as well because I love a good jewel tone...but I'm still holding out for reviews haha are you interested in that palette G? Or the revlon? I'm excited to see your thoughts! :)

  4. I thought the Maybelline ones were blah, I thought the L'Oreal ones were blah... I'm gonna wait for swatches and reviews on these.

    1. The quality of the
Loreal was so much better than maybelline.

  5. That palette looks pretty, but after being very disappointed by Maybelline's Nudes line, I'll pass. Besides, I have so much eyeshadow it's embarrassing. :-)

  6. I have L'Oreal palette 2 and I do like it. I had wished for a bit more shimmer shades. I originally bought Maybelline Nudes and returned it unopened after rereading your review and comments. I have never had a Revlon eye shadow so I would love to see you review this. I would like a better mix of finishes.

  7. Revlon just seems to be behind the game on everything lately, everything they put out seems like old news. plus this looks way too cool toned for my tastes. I liked their matte liquid lipstick that I picked up recently, but as you said that's lips.

  8. I am actually excited about knowing this pallet because, really we don't have a lot drugstore pallets so hopefully these shadow works out well for us ladies

  9. This is just meh for me. It is way too similar to the Maybelline ones (which I own all of) and those weren't that earth shattering so unfortunately this seems underwhelming to me as well.

  10. I'm a jewel-toned kind of girl so I'm looking forward to seeing other Just Not Nudes palettes. I have so many nude singles that I've grown bored with them.

  11. I'm going to echo a lot of people above and say the quality of the drugstore brands for shadow just hasn't been there, so even though that seems like a good color mix, I'm not really excited. I feel like I can get really great high-end shadows with good discounts that bring them to reasonable prices, so it's not worth it to get mediocre ones.

  12. I really like the colors in this Revlon palette, fingers crossed that paired with a good primer we have a decent product. That silvery blue on the top row and the bottom corners are quite unique and are calling my name. Swatches, please?

  13. I'm going to pass. I have the Nudes palette, and while I like the colors, it just isn't smooth enough for me, I never reach for it anymore unless I've left my chocolate bar in my overnight bag.

  14. Hey G., I like your hypothesis on the name of this palette! I'm one of the people who were complaining about the names of Maybelline's palettes. I'd like to think that Revlon is being cheeky with us. :)

  15. I can't believe everyone is talking about the Loreal and Revlon "nude" palettes when Wet n Wild came with one and the pigmentation is really good!

    1. If you mean the Coloricon Naked Truth 5-pan or the Fergie 10-pan, we DID talk about those when they first came out! :) I think everyone's talking about this Revlon one because it's new, and that's just what we do. lol! ;)

    2. You're right that we talk about new stuff hahaha... I was talking about the Fergie 10 pan palette, but I feel a little meh about Revlon and Maybelline palettes, I really like the Fergie one, the only reason I didn't buy it it's because I have a lot of neutral palettes LOL, the TF Chocolate bars and the Coastal scents Revealed palettes (1 & 2)... But obviously is question of preference too :)

  16. I have about 10 of the Revlon quads and these remind me of those.

  17. These are so unexciting to me, and I think it's just because they look SO MUCH like the Maybelline palettes. I have both the original Nudes and the Blushed Nudes - I used the original only once, and enjoyed the Blush palette for about a week before I stopped reaching for it. I was interested in the Loreal ones but I couldn't justify the price for a drugstore palette. I think I'm just over these drugstore palettes entirely - it was exciting at first but now it's being overdone and they're too similar & poor in quality to be worth it!

    1. The Loreal is great especially if u can use a coupon and get it on sale. I paid 8.00 after coupon/sale

  18. Wow I was really excited at first. I have both Loreal and like them fine. Been wanting the MR dupe for Blushed Nudes. Watched a video a few min ago about BH cosm Rose Nude pallet and looked good. But she said she went over the shades three times. I caught it but she liked them a lot. Some ppl just can't get to get anything but DS makeup unless they pay shipping online. If u live in a rural community u have to drive a cpl hours to get near a Sephora. The Ultas r usually small and limited to stock. Unfortunately. So it's may be really good for some of those. But I will wait to see what everyone has to say probably. Some ppl like the Maybelline Nudes pallets. I watched a lot of videos about the Blushed Nudes pallet trying to decide to buy it or not. It just depends on who u r and what ur needs r on a lot products. It gets down to personal style and like I said needs and wants. Some don't want a lot of pigmentation or need it to last for many hours. So don't want to shoot myself in the foot before I know. Time will tell as long as it's not an LE product it's all good. No hurry. But excited about the New Maybelline.

  19. While I love Revlon lip products and nail polish, I've been consistently disappointed in their eye shadows -- chalky, poor pigmentation. Which is OK since I have enough other brands' palettes for several lifetimes.

  20. These are just so similiar to the Maybelline palettes. While I think it's great that Revlon is getting into the game, I just don't need the colors or shadows. Unlike some, I actually really quite like my Maybelline Blushed Nudes! And it looks so similiar to this! As well, the L'oreal Nudes palette also has all these similiar colors of the Revlon nudes, and it's fantastic. I just don't need another palette of the same. But I'm happy that Revlon is branching out, and I hope the quality is better than some of their other eyeshadows. :) I will definitely been keen on reading reviews of it.

  21. I can't recall the last time I've bought a Revlon palette. Maybe it was when they still had the wet/dry formula, which I liked, and I now just apply most of my shadows with a damp brush or applicator to get more color impact. I remember those creme shadow quads, too, which are still around but maybe changed a bit. Colors were pretty but they creased like crazy.
