A Tale of Two Jellies: Sinful Colors Halloween 2015 Nail Colors in Go Batty and Devil's Stare

Sinful Colors Halloween 2015 Limited Edition Nail Colors
1574 Go Batty (Glow in the Dark), 1590 Devil's Stare
(retail: $1.99 each, 0.5 oz.)

What kind of a beauty blogger would I be if I didn't do at least ONE Halloween-themed beauty post this year? I mean, I've shown you some Halloween-themed drugstore beauty collections (not as many as I would have liked, but I think I did a pretty good job at covering the basics this year), but I really wanted to show the two Halloween-related beauty purchases I made this year. I'm shocked I only made two this year, but I digress.

I purchased these two shades about a week and a half ago at a local Walgreens. Both are part of the Sinful Colors Halloween 2015 collection I showed you a while back, which you can find at Walgreens, Rite Aid, and the seasonal Halloween section at Target (look for a large end-cap display).

1574 Go Batty (Glow in the Dark)

Go Batty appears to be a teal blue jelly with iridescent silver moon glitter, but if you look VERY closely, there are actually teeny tiny white micro flakes floating around in the base as well:

Three coats, no top coat

Three coats, no top coat

This one was a bit problematic during application. The moon glitter has some weight to it, so it wants to sink to the bottom of the bottle even after storing the bottle upside-down for a bit. This resulted in me having to fish for the glitter. And not just regular fishing--we're talking deep-sea-fishing-off-the-coast-of-baja-for-half-a-day-with-a-cooler-full-of-beer type of fishing. I swirled that brush multiple times to get even just one moon out of the bottle per nail, but you can see that on the third nail I got lucky and scored two(!).

As for the base, I was scared at first because it was VERY sheer on the first coat. But after two more coats, I actually really like the look of this jelly base. It's squishy, yet it also has a slight dusty quality to it thanks to those micro flakes. Dry-time for this polish was average.

And because this is a glow-in-the-dark, I had to at least attempt to take a photo of it in the dark. My camera wasn't having any of that though, so the pic above was the best I could do. It does glow, although it's not super bright.

1590 Devil's Stare

Devil's Stare is an orange-ish red jelly with gold and iridescent hex glitter and iridescent shard glitter. I love these types of polishes from Sinful, and I think most of you know that. So this was a no-brainer for me the moment I saw it.

Three coats, no top coat

I actually only needed two coats for good coverage/opacity with this one, but I did a third one just because it always tends to look better on camera. But if you get this one, just know that you don't need a third coat if you're not planning to photograph your nails in extreme close-up.

Application wasn't super easy with this one, because it's quite glitter-dense. You have to be careful or the shards and hexes will clump toward the top of your nail when you're brushing this polish on, so go slowly and make sure you don't have too much polish on your brush and you should be fine. Polishes like this are quite forgiving during application and you can go back in a dab at any bald spots if needed. Oh, and dry-time was average for this one.

I also want to mention that in my pic above, you can see that without top coat, this one is quite bumpy. So here's a pic WITH top coat:

Three coats + top coat

In this pic, I used one coat of NYC Grand Central Station as top coat, and that smoothed things out nicely. I would actually apply two coats of Grand Central Station for extra smoothness though, since a few hours after this photo, the top coat did sink a bit into the glitter. Seriously though, this polish is so pretty--I could stare at it for hours when I'm wearing it and it never gets old.

So tell me--have you made any Halloween beauty purchases this year? If so, I'd love to hear all about them in the comments below!

  1. Bought both of these also but have only worn Devil's Stare. It is a stunner. I got a ton of compliments. Told everyone it was my "devil" nail polish. I bought Go Batty mostly for the name and cuteness factor but I could tell by the bottle that it would be a hard one to work with as all the moons are sunk at the bottom.

Also, speaking of Sinfuls, be on the lookout for the new Xmas/holiday display. Saw it at Walgreens today. Has some new shades...

    1. So glad to hear you're loving Devil's Stare too, Carol! :)

And thanks for the tip about the holiday collection--I'm actually working on a post for this week!

  2. I actually looked at both of these tonight at Rite Aid. Didn't buy either one. :( Now I really want to go back and grab Devil's Stare!! How are these to remove?

    1. Not bad at all, really, for a glitter polish. I use pure acetone, and I only had to hold a saturated cotton pad to each nail for about 30 seconds before it came off. And that was with two layers of top coat. :)

    2. Thanks! I'll be looking for it next time I'm out!

  3. There is also a version with black skull crossbones, a greenish jelly that's glow in the dark

  4. Wow they are both really good in their own ways... Usually I don't care for heart or star glitter but moon is okay...but I'd be fine if I didn't get any glitter and just had the polish! I have to try to find these this weekend...

    2. I have at least four or five Walgreens around my house (actually found one of them had been closed down), and when I did find the display it was empty. That's okay though, I got a jump on the xmas holiday polishes...not sure if any of these are new or repromotes...but I got Purple Heart, Steel my Heart, Silver Crush, Star Studded, Flake Out and Gilded.

  5. Devil's Stare is calling my name! Loved your analogy of getting the moon glitter in Go Batty to deep sea fishing, lol!

  6. They are both so pretty! I realize now how much I miss your nail polish reviews. I didn't buy any polish this season and I don't know if I will buy for Christmas either. I laughed out loud at your fishing analogy!

    1. Lol! Thanks so much, R.! And you know, it's been so long since I did a polish review that it felt exciting to do one again. I REALLY need to start doing them regularly again. I miss them, and I'm so happy you enjoyed this one! xo

  7. I just used Go Batty as a topcoat. I was surprised at how bright it glowed in the dark! I wish the moons were a little better, but I was pretty impressed with it!

    1. I haven't yet, but I think it would be gorgeous over black (as long as you could get the glitter down evenly). :)

  9. Now I want Devil's Stare. I'm not sure I've seen it anywhere, though.
