Spotted: NEW L'Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Rock Mascara

There's a new member in the Miss Manga family! In addition to the original Miss Manga (click here for my review), Miss Manga Black Angel and Miss Manga Color Pop, we've got a brand new formula in the lineup called Miss Manga Rock. Reader @beautyfoolgrl on Instagram spotted the new Miss Manga Rock display at her local Harmon this week and kindly shared some pics. Let's take a look!

NOTE: Miss Manga Rock debuted in Europe in January 2015 under the name Miss Manga Punky.

As you can see, this mascara promises a spiky look, but probably not as spiky in real life as portrayed in the image above (see disclaimer on display). As I mentioned early, this mascara debuted a few months ago in Europe under the name Miss Manga Punky, so there are some reviews online such as THIS ONE, where you can see the actual spiky effect of this mascara.

At first I was thinking, "Why would anyone WANT a spiky look to their mascara?" Isn't that usually what we're trying to avoid? But then I remembered that the theme of the Miss Manga line is bigger-than-life anime characters with exaggerated, extreme lashes. So I can appreciate that L'Oreal is bringing something a bit less "conservative" to the drugstore level. Even if it's not for everyone, I'm happy it's out there, although I'm sure some of you will disagree!

Have you spotted this new formula in your area yet? Think you'll give it a whirl? Do you like any of the other Miss Manga mascaras? I've repurchased the original Miss Manga a few times since my review last year, and I still like it quite a bit.

Thanks again, @beautyfoolgrl, for the great sighting and pics!

  1. I go to a lot of hard rock/heavy metal concerts and this would be a fun look to wear there. I wouldn't wear it everyday, but it's a fun alternative to regular mascara on occasions when you might want to rock a different look. Definitely going to look for this.

  2. The original Miss Manga is what finally got me into mascara, and I will definitely repurchase when it runs dry. Are there any others you recommend? I've heard good things about L'oreal, but I'm not familiar with their other mascaras.

    1. You should try out the L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black ~ it is considered a 'holy grail' mascara to many people (myself included!) it thickens and makes the lashes look so luxurious. It's also mentioned a lot as a permanent staple to have in your makeup bag by many YouTube 'gurus' ~ It's amazing and it's drugstore so you can stock up when they're on sale BOGO or BOGO½ off + use Sunday paper or online coupons! I hope this helps!

    2. Yes I agree voluminous, also telescopic, butterfly intenza, double extend and false fiber lash mascara are also great ones that I like from Loreal

  3. Look up "gyaru eyelashes", I think that's the look they are going for.

  7. LOL! If that mascara makes my lashes look like the picture (highly unlikely but you know) I'm not interested!

  8. I'm assuming the secret to this product is a quick-dry formula. The only reason I'm not sold in it yet is because I feel like you can manipulate most mascaras to producing this effect, and the love for Manga comes down to whether or not you like the brush. Nevertheless, Miss Manga delivers on what it promises, so I'm sure Rock will too.

  9. There is no way that look, creepy as it is, comes from mascara alone. She's probably wearing false eyelashes and the picture is heavily Photoshopped too. That's a real beef with me in makeup ads. What you see is NOT what you get, especially when it comes to mascara.

    1. I agree, it looks totally ridiculous and I don't see how a mascara alone could achieve that! Looks very clumpy but symmetrically so. lol.

    2. The display itself does say results are simulated.

  10. There was a character on a tv show that wore her makeup like that (Criminal Minds)... always makes me think of spider legs on your eyes *shudders* no, thank you

  11. Oh gosh, can't wait to see all the negative reviews for this mascara because "it makes lashes clumpy and spikey"---that's the purpose for this one, ha ha! I absolutely love Miss Manga, can't wait to try this one out.

  12. I don't think it makes your lashes quite that spiked, haha. A friend of mine compared it to Le Volume de Chanel, so I can't wait to try it.

  13. I actually like the spikey look with falsies (I think it was Ardell that did a whole spiked collection last year) but I just can't see it looking as polished with mascara alone.

  14. Spider eyes - not my kind of look
