Soap & Glory to Move Back to Drugstores

A little while back, I received a sample packet of Soap & Glory's Sugar Crush Body Buttercream with a Sephora order. I fell in love with it and wanted to order a full-size tub, but I noticed that it's now out of stock on the Sephora site, and some of their other products are out of stock at Sephora as well. Well I now know what's going on, so I thought I'd share.

Keep reading for the scoop...

From WWD.com:
Repositioning Soap & Glory as masstige seems like a natural evolution since Boots acquired it. After a mutual decision to end its relationship, the kitschy beauty brand is in the process of pulling out of Sephora so one can only wonder, what happened?
“Soap & Glory has been highly successful in the U.K. with its masstige positioning,” said Ken Murphy, executive vice president of Walgreens Boots Alliance. “Sales at Sephora have been consistently strong, with double-digit comp growth year over year. In line with our global brand positioning, moving the brand to masstige will allow us to give consumers what they have been asking for — greater accessibility, more product variety than before and lower prices.”
The brand, which founder Marcia Kilgore sold to Boots in November for an undisclosed sum, will be distributed more broadly by the end of the year, but retailers and price range have yet to be determined. Meanwhile, Soap & Glory is hoping to distribute its color cosmetics line in the U.S. The color now consists of around 30 stockkeeping units. Murphy added that in the U.K., Soap & Glory is the fasted growing color cosmetics brand at Boots.

First of all, I missed the news that Boots purchased Soap & Glory. Second, this is the first I've heard about the brand pulling out of Sephora, but now it makes sense as to why some of their products are out of stock there. I'm guessing Soap & Glory will be sold at Walgreens moving forward (since Walgreens Boots Alliance owns them, it would make sense), but it sounds like they might be planning to offer their products elsewhere as well. Only time will tell! I'm also excited about the prospect of them bringing their color cosmetics to the US--wouldn't that be nice?

Do any of you remember when Soap & Glory was sold at Target? That was before the move to Sephora, so I'm excited to see them come back to the masstige market ("Masstige" is a portmanteau for "mass" and "prestige" and it basically means fancier products sold at drugstores at a slightly higher price-point than regular mass market products). I'm very curious to see what the prices will be like once the move is made.

Are you a Soap & Glory fan? Are you happy to hear they're moving back to drugstores (and that we might see their color cosmetics in the US soon)?

  1. This is amazing news! Made my day. Sephora just didn't always have want I wanted in stock and I feel like being at Walgreens will make it easier to get and hopefully the makeup products will be sold there too!

  2. I like Soap and Glory a lot. Do you think the prices will stay the same, though?

    1. The article says the price range has yet to be determined, so I have no idea. I hope they're going to be a bit lower when they hit drugstores though!

  3. I hope the prices will be similar to england. I am from the UK but moved to USA last year, sad to see my favourite body care staples are more expensive here in the USA when I was so used to everything being cheaper compared to uk prices. Lol!

  4. I like Soap & Glory, and I still have a couple of products that I purchased on clearance from Target when they left. I'm glad they are headed back to drugstores!

  5. I remember when Soap & Glory was at Target and I wonder if they won't be back since Boots is sold there. At least, I'm pretty sure Target still has Boots. Honestly, their beauty section is way too bright for me to look at comfortably now so I skip it :(

    1. I hope they come back to target too! And you skip the beauty section at Target? I know it's bright, but I like that (it was so dim before). Lol. I'm sorry to hear it's too bright for you now...so many pretty things and I love the elf selection at target. Plus, Sonia Kashuk! Maybe you can just quickly scan, and then come home and buy online? :)

  7. Yes!!!! I am all over this news. I loved when they were in target and drugstore distribution means drugstore sales! Not that Walgreens always has stellar sales but I'm still game!

  8. The only thing I'm worried about is that there will be a long lull in between products sold out of sephora and products being stocked in drugstores!! I can't live without soap and glory body products!!!

  9. I really like Soap & Glory but only buy it when I'm in the UK, because of the high price of the products at sephora. Boots often ran promotions on Soap & Glory (B1G1 50% off, 3 for 2. I will be happy to see it at a more affordable price here in the US!

  11. I am so excited! I didn't have money to get it when it was at Target and since then I'm just cheap and didn't want to way Sephora prices for things. I like the idea of it being at Walgreens because there are always sales and rewards points and awesome ways for me to not spend full price on items ^_^

  12. Excited for this since I love that brand especially their hand cream and Sephora is kind of out of the way :)

  13. Yay! There are some products essiebutton has talked about that are UK only - but I hope to find them here in the States soon! I wonder if sephora will put the stock that's still in individual stores on clearance or if they'll just keep selling stuff until it's eventually gone.

  14. Oh I hope they bring back calm one call all bubble bath! It's the only bubble bath that soothes my dry skin. I saw on their website that they will sell their products online through drugstore.com.....

  15. Aren't Boots and Walgreens owned by the same comapny or at least related somehow? I wonder if you'll see it in the schmancier Walgreens and Duane Reeds like Boots and Nuxe displays.

    1. Yes. It's Walgreens Boots Alliance, and I wrote in this post that I'm guessing they'll probably be sold in Walgreens stores. Also, the article I quoted in this post includes a quote from the executive vice president of Walgreens Boots Alliance. Hope that helps!

  23. Try Walgreens.com, Drugstore.com, Beauty.com or us.Boots.com. If anything, these products should be on the US Boots site if anyone needs them and can't find them anywhere.

  24. For some reason I have typed a comment on one of your posts and they don't show up 😕. I wanted to tell you much I love your blog and I tell all my friends about it! I am fellow San Diegan and am a make-up, nail polish, skin products addict and do not discriminate when it comes to brands or stores! I own about 200 polishes and have a custom-made nail polish rack in my closet. I use all brands of everything from UD, theBalm to Wet and Wild! In all fairness, I am from Texas, Hispanic and my mother has owned a beauty salon since I was born so it is in my DNA 😉 I appreciate your honesty in your reviews and helping us all to save money! I can't wait to try this brand when it comes to Walgreen's. Thank you so much for being so thorough and humorous at the same time! You rock!

  25. This is so exciting! I've always wanted to try Soap & Glory products but never wanted to make a purchase online. I don't have access to a Sephora where I live, only Ulta - I actually didn't even know it was sold at Sephora! Can't wait to check Soap & Glory out at Walgreens!

  26. I just recently got their "a great kisser" lip balm in peach and I lovvvve it. I'm not thrilled that it is in a tin, but I apply it either with freshly washed hands or I pucker up and "kiss" the pot to apply. I do remember S&G being at Target. Years ago I got the "sexy mother pucker" set that came with a chubby lip pencil and a doefoot tube of shimmery peachy coloured gloss. It had very nice packaging too... a box w magnetic closure and kitschy pin-up 50's women on it. Come to think of it I've never explored anything other than lip products from them. Think I need to try a lotion or butter bc I've heard wonderful things regarding scent and effectiveness. I would rather hear of them coming to cvs as imo they have the best reward system...Wags is the worst as you have to buy select merch to get pts. I fell like I've made so many purches there, yet never have any pts to redeem. The cashiers (in my experience at varied locations too) take way too long scrutinizing coupons, scan it and then if there is an issue ok then take a bit of time to see what it could be. Its like they are looking for a problem before one is even apparent. I had one cashier refuse to even try to scan a "Yes to" coupon I had. Wasn't expired, even said Walgreens on said mnfctr coupon (though this didn't mean it couldn't be used elsewhere bc I did use one of the same at Target no prob) this person kept harping on the fact that the picture on the coupon was the brown coconuts wipes while I was trying to purchase the grapefruit wipes...um, coupon clearly stated X amount of ANY Yes to product!! So I had to wait and so did the folks behind me till a manager came. Manager looked at it and gave me the same bs line w/out even attempting to scan it, I asked to to please try to scan will ya, and when he did wouldn't ya know...it went through, duh!

  27. This is great news! I bet Target will sell their products because some of my Target stores carry the Boots brand. Here's hoping!

  28. They've announced that their products are available on drugstore.com, beauty.com, and skinstore.com. They seem to have kept fairly reasonable prices (consistent with their previous target price point)

  29. Soap and Glory will be sold at Ulta online and in-store starting August 8,2015.
