Review: Maybelline Spring 2015 Limited Edition Baby Lips Buds in Peach Posey and Oh! Orchid!

After my original post about the new limited edition Baby Lips Buds (thanks so much to those of you who commented and emailed me about the additional shades!) I managed to snag two at a local Walmart a couple weeks back. CVS appears to be carrying Petal Rebel and Oh! Orchid, while Walmart seems to be carrying Oh! Orchid! and Peach Posey, in case you're looking for these.

NOTE: Since my last post, I only know of three Baby Lips Buds shades: 175 Petal Rebel, 180 Peach Posey and 190 Oh! Orchid. Any limited edition Baby Lips numbered under 175 are not part of the "Buds" collection (for example, 170 Ruby Star was part of the Holiday 2014 collection and it is not a "Buds" shade). If you know of any other Baby Lips Buds shades out there, I would love if you would comment below and filled us in. Thanks!

Three gentle swipes of each shade

Oh! Orchid! is a lot more pigmented than other Baby Lips shades I own. I usually have to slather my Baby Lips on in order to get any real color pay-off (yes there are exceptions but, for the most part, Baby Lips are not known for their pigmentation). Now don't get me wrong--Oh! Orchid! isn't as pigmented as a sheer lipstick, but it's close! I only have to go over my lips twice or three times to get some really nice color pay-off, and I'm absolutely in LOVE with the color. On the lips, it gives you the prettiest lavender tint that's sort of milky, but not opaque or chalky. It's milky-sheer, if that makes sense.

Peach Posey is not as pigmented as Oh! Orchid!. It's a sheer shade of coral/melon on me, and the pigmentation is very light. It reminds me of other regular Baby Lips shades I own, meaning I really have to slather it on in order to get any noticeable color on my medium-pigmented lips.

As for the fragrance and flavor, these both have the same scent to me (I really can't tell the difference between the two). The fragrance reminds me very much of red Starburst candy. The flavor is similar to red Starburts as well, but very faint.

I detect no difference in formula with the Baby Lips Buds as compared to the regular Baby Lips formula. The Buds feel identical on the lips to me. They have that same slick, light feeling to them with some light hydration/moisturization. Staying power is the same for me as regular Baby Lips--about 1-2 hours before I feel the need to reapply.

FINAL VERDICT: I say skip Peach Posey (unless you're a collector, in which case you probably already own it!) and go straight for Oh! Orchid! since the color pay-off is impressive for a Baby Lips product. It's a really lovely, easy-to-wear color, and it's the kind of balm that's great to keep in your purse for when you're on the go and you just need a quick wash of color without having to use a mirror for application.

Do you own any of the Baby Lips Buds? If so, which shades do you own and how do you like them?

  1. I didn't even know about Peach Posey, but I do own Petal Rebel and Oh! Orchid. I agree with the orchid being a great color. Petal Rebel is pretty but it shows up more when swatched on my hand than on my lips, it's so sheer.

  2. I actually got all three at my Walmart! They were hanging on a clipstrip by the hair color. I am curious, though, if there is another one, at least, on the way. They skipped over 185 completely, which is why I have to wonder. Oh! Orchid! Is by far my favorite of the new three.

  4. Thanks for this review G! It looks like the Orchid one is the only one I may shell out for. After getting almost all of the electric Baby Lips on clearance, I don't really want to pay regular price lol

  5. You would not believe what I found in the LE Baby Lips display at a Walgreens! Several LE marked Coral Crush (#70) and Yummy Plummy (#90). G., let me know if you want a pic.
