Dollar Tree Sighting: Essie Sleek Sticks for $1

Stop the presses! Essie Sleek Sticks? At Dollar Tree? For $1? Yep.

Many thanks to reader Alma @rosamy13 on Instagram for this one! Alma spotted a whopping 12 DESIGNS at her Dollar Tree this week and shared this pic of some of them:

image credit: Alma for Nouveau Cheap
Essie Sleek Sticks at Dollar Tree
(Retail: around $10 each. Dollar Tree price: $1 each.)

To refresh your memory, when these first debuted at Walgreens back in 2012, they retailed for $10.25 (PROOF) and they're still around that price at most retailers. If you haven't tried these yet, according to Jen at The PolishAholic, the textured designs are easier to apply than the smoother designs. But hey, at this price, why not experiment with both?

Have you spotted these at your local Dollar Tree yet? There are lots of other great makeup and nail products now popping up at Dollar Tree too--you can see my post from a few weeks ago HERE.

Thanks so much, Alma, for the great sighting and pic!

The Lipstick League - week of 9.1.14

The Lipstick League Question of the Week

How much is too much to pay for a lipstick?

G's answer: You're probably going to assume that I'd say anything over $10 is too much. And in most cases, you would be absolutely correct. BUT, sometimes there are certain shades and/or formulas that are so beautiful, they can be worth the extra money. But even then, I have my limits. For me personally, there's just zero room in my budget for spending $40 for one tube of lipstick plus another $25 for the holder. Oh, my wallet aches just thinking about it.

The Lipstick League Links of the Week

Glitter.Gloss.Garbage - Fall is almost on the way, so check out swatches of the Nordic Collection by OPI!

Gouldylox Reviews - Autumn is such a great time to reflect, buy new boots and update your makeup wardrobe. I've got the skinny on what's new (and if you really need it!)

My Beauty Bunny - Looking for a new eyeliner? Get three! The Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Eye Enhancing Trio is waterproof, multi-purpose, and less than twelve bucks!

Nouveau Cheap - puts one of the new-for-2014 e.l.f. Smudge Pots to the test. How did this inexpensive little multi-tasker work for her? Come find out!

Prime Beauty - loves her sweet treats but honey in eyeshadow? How is that possible? Find out in her review of Ardency Inn MODSTER Manuka Honey Enriched Pigments!

we heart this - went to the Emmys (yep, you read that right.) Check out the gown, makeup, hair, etc. that got us red carpet ready. And the shower product that made us skip lotion.

(Wondering what the Lipstick League is? Find out here.)

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Glitter.Gloss.Garbage - I absolutely love Brooke of Blushing Noir. She is my go to girl for high end beauty reviews. Her photos are gorgeous and her reviews are well thought out!

Spotted: Wet n Wild Halloween 2014 Collection (New Limited Edition 5-Pans, Balm Stains and More)

Wet n Wild fans: if you thought you could take a breather because you found all of the Fall 2014 Limited Edition Collection stuff you wanted, think again! Did you know that there's a new Wet n Wild Halloween 2014 Collection full of both permanent AND limited edition goodies?

Many thanks to reader Lisa, who spotted this display at her local Duane Reade (owned by Walgreens) this week. My contact at Wet n Wild has confirmed that this collection is exclusive to Walgreens and Duane Reade.

NOTE: Not to be confused with the Fantasy Makers by Wet n Wild Halloween 2014 Collection which is also now popping up in stores, the display you're about to see is filled with Wet n Wild products, not Fantasy Makers by Wet n Wild products.

Spotted: Lip Smacker Special Edition Disney Villains 2014 Lip Balms

So last week, reader Regina left a comment on the Nouveau Cheap Facebook page letting us know that she spotted some Disney Villains 2014 products at Walgreens. I didn't even know that there was a Disney Villains 2014 Collection coming out (you can see the Disney Villains 2013 Collection here) in addition to the Disney Ariel and Disney Snow White Collections that were released at Walgreens a few months ago.

UPDATE: Regina just let me know that she spotted e.l.f. Disney Villains 2014 Beauty Books and well as hair ties and lash sets at her Walgreens last week. I'm guessing there are probably going to be other e.l.f. products, as well as nail art kits, in this new collection since that's what we've seen in previous Disney collections at Walgreens. If you spot any of the new Disney Villains 2014 products in your area, please leave a comment below and fill us in (and thank you!).

In the meantime: there are Disney Villains 2014 Lip Smackers! Many thanks to reader Shelly73 for this one. Shelly73 spotted the Disney Villains 2014 Lip Smacker Trio at her local Walgreens this week and was nice enough to share pics and info. Take a look:

Do You Know Which Brand Makes the New One Direction Makeup Collection?

I am personally not a fan of One Direction (apologies to any Directioners out there!) and I kind of turned a blind eye to the news of the band releasing a makeup line. BUT, that was before I heard that Markwins International (owners of Markwins Beauty Inc., makers of Wet n Wild, Black Radiance, etc.) was behind this makeup collection. You know I'm a longtime Wet n Wild and Black Radiance fan, so now that I know Markwins International is the manufacturer (PROOF), I figured this collection warranted a closer look...

Too Faced Holiday 2014 Sets Now Available at Macy's

You know that I don't blog about higher-end makeup unless I'm telling you how to get something at a reduced price, but I do take exception with holiday gift sets because holiday sets are generally offered at a price that's well below the retail value of the products contained in the sets.

That said, I want to thank several of you here and on social media for the tip that some Too Faced Holiday 2014 Gift Sets are now available for purchase on the Macy's website, and you get free shipping on beauty orders of $50 or more (unlike the rest of the site, where you're required to spend $75 or more for free shipping).

Review: e.l.f. Essential Smudge Pot in Brownie Points

The e.l.f. Smudge Pots, which are part of the Essential line, debuted earlier this year. Since their debut, I've heard lots of raves about these little mult-taskers. According to the e.l.f. website, they can be used as both eyeliner and eyeshadow. For $3 a pop, how could I resist trying one?

I purchased one shade, Brownie Points, from the e.l.f. site a few months ago. I've given this product a thorough testing, so read on for my full review.

e.l.f. Essential Smudge Pot in Brownie Points
(retail: $3, 0.19 oz)

The e.l.f. Essential Smudge Pots are available in nine shades on the e.l.f. website. I can't remember if these are sold in-store at Target and Kmart yet, but I would image they will be soon (if they're not there already).

The Wednesday Question

For your day-to-day look, which do you prefer: foundation, BB/CC cream, tinted moisturizer or...?

I'm a full-coverage foundation kind of gal. But I seem to be in a hurry a lot these days, and when I'm in a hurry I tend to slap on a primer, spot-conceal with concealer and then apply a setting powder. When I don't have time to properly apply foundation, this combo can get me through the day without scaring small children!

Models Own Now at Forever 21

Have you heard the news? Thanks to several of you for mentioning this to me over the weekend, and thanks to reader Kristen for sharing this pic:

For those unfamiliar, Models Own is a popular UK-based makeup and nail polish brand. Their products are a little bit challenging to find here in the US these days (I believe they're mostly sold through online retailers), so if you're a Models Own fan, or have been wanting to try some of their products, it's your lucky day! You can now purchase Models Own cosmetics on the Forever 21 site HERE. As of the time of this post, the makeup products are also sold in-store, but the nail polishes are web-exclusives.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to share this tip with us, and thanks to Kristen for the image!

LORAC Skinny Palettes on HauteLook Tuesday (9/2)

Thanks to readers Pamela and @k1mbu0y on Instagram for this tip!

Starting tomorrow (9/2) at 8AM Pacific, the 2014 Nordstrom Anniversary LORAC Skinny Palettes will be on HauteLook. I've done several posts about these palettes over the past few months (for $15 they're a STEAL) and both the Nude and Navy Skinny Palettes seem to be constantly in and out and back in stock on both the LORAC site and Zappos site

You get free shipping with no minimum order required on the LORAC and Zappos sites, so I'm not sure what the draw will be when these are on HauteLook. Perhaps they'll be less than $15 each (wishful thinking, I know!). Or maybe they'll offer the Plum Skinny Palette, which is a Nordstrom Rack/HauteLook-exclusive. That would make a lot of sense, right?

So if you've been wanting the Plum Skinny Palette, I would set a reminder NOW to log on to HauteLook right at 8AM Pacific tomorrow (Tuesday, 9/2) just in case. I have a feeling it will sell out quickly if it's available.

Also, the China Glaze and Seche Vite sale on HauteLook started today. There are lots of China Glaze glitters for $4 each, and Seche Vite Top Coat is $5.

Thanks again, Pamela and @k1mbu0y, for the great tip!

Freeman Beauty: Free Shipping on Orders $15+ All Month Long

One of the most common complaints that I heard when I reviewed the Freeman Charcoal & Black Sugar Scrub was that some of you aren't able to find that product locally. I have also heard that some of you can't find various Eclos products (such as my favorite primer) and C. Booth products locally. So for those of you who have been wanting to stock up or try something new from Freeman, Eclos and/or C. Booth, here's your chance:

All month long (now through 9/30), get free shipping on all orders of $15+ on the Freeman website with code 30DAYSHIP. I've heard good things about Black Radiance face products from many of you (due to my skintone, which is NC20, I can only wear their foundation primer and color cosmetics such as eyeshadow, lipstick, blush, etc.). Hopefully this will be a hit for those of you with deeper skintones--I'd love to know what you think if/when you give it a try next year!

The Lipstick League - week of 8.25.14

Lipstick League Question of the Week

False Lashes: Love ‘em or leave ‘em?

G's answer: As much as I love them on others, I cannot make them work for me even though my sad, sparse, short lashes really could use the boost. They always look incredibly fake on me, and I owe that to not trying enough styles and also my incredible lack of application skills. Maybe someday I'll find the right pair...and learn how to better apply them!

Lipstick League Links of the Week

EauMG - found an amazing budget-friendly amber perfume that smells much more expensive than it $40-ish price tag. Just ignore the packaging and rather odd inspiration...

Glitter.Gloss.Garbage -Sally Hansen’s Pacific Blue switcharoo probably has you down in the dumps. No worries, I have a list of high end and drugstore dupes!

Gouldylox Reviews - Science is advancing so quickly, there is no need to settle. Update your fall routine with these breakthrough products and spend less time getting ready and more time looking fab.

Lipglossiping - puts her undying love for the original bad-girl scent to one side while she does her best to judge Agent Provocateur’s latest release on its own merits.
