Review: H&M Make Me Blush Blusher in Sweet Rose

Several months ago, I purchased some clothes from the H&M website and I had a code for free shipping on orders of $50 or more (all orders ship for $5.95 on the H&M site unless you have a code or they run a promotion). My order total was just under $50, so I decided to toss this blush in my cart. I had never tried any cosmetics from H&M at that point, but I remembered seeing some good reviews online. So I figured, what the heck!

I finally got around to actually trying this blush about a month ago and I'd love to share my thoughts with you (in case you're like me, and curious about their makeup).

NOTE: The packaging and name of H&M's blushes has changed slightly since I placed my order. I have one of the old compacts, but you can see what this blush looks like now HERE.

H&M Make Me Blush Blusher in Sweet Rose
(retail: $4.95, 0.25 oz)

made in Germany

So many wonderful eye cosmetics are made in Germany (Urban Decay 24/7 liners, Milani ShadowEyez, Jordana 12HR Made to Last Eyeshadow Pencils and the list goes on). But I also own some very nice blushes that were made in Germany by brands like Boots No7 (both their powder blushes and cream blushes are made in Germany, I believe).

This blush has very subtle shimmer to it and also very fine micro-glitter. The overall look when worn on my cheeks is more of a soft sheen and I really cannot detect any glitter on my face after application. Here are my swatches viewed at a slightly different angle (I think you can see the sheen a bit better here):

Texture and consistency: Looking at the surface of this blush, I was a bit worried at first because it looked like it could be a bit chunky. But actually, this blush has a very smooth consistency and it's finely-milled. It feels silky to the touch and it's easy to both apply and blend. There's a little bit of fallout on the compact when I'm picking up color with my brush, but nothing too dramatic.

Color and finish: Sweet Rose is a warm coral with pink undertones. Like I mentioned above, this blush contains both fine shimmer and very fine micro-glitter, but the only thing I see when I apply this to my cheeks is a soft sheen. I absolutely love the finish of this blush because it makes my skin look "glowy" without looking like I was hit with a glitter bomb.

Pigmentation: The pigmentation of this blush is very easy to control. If you use a light hand, you can achieve a barely-there glow, but you can also easily build for more intensity. I've worn it both ways (as a soft wash and also as a deeper pop of color) and I love how easy it is to achieve both looks.

Staying power: I'm extremely impressed with the staying power of this blush. I have super oily skin and the weather has been HOT while I've been testing this product. I've worn it on top of BB creams and liquid foundations and I've worn it both under and over setting powders. No matter how I wear it, I'm impressed. I can get a minimum of 6-7 hours of wear from this blush and on most days I'm shocked when I can still see traces of it after 10-11 hours of wear.

Fragrance: I detect no fragrance whatsoever to this blush.

FINAL VERDICT: This is one of those universal blushes that I can see working on a variety of skintones, regardless of whether you like your blushes subtle or intense. You can easily take this blush from soft to bold, and the texture/consistency are quite nice for a blush that retails for under five bucks. I"m also very impressed with the finish of this blush--it makes my skin look "glowy" without looking greasy or glittery. The staying power is also quite impressive, even in hot weather. I would definitely consider picking up additional shades in this range since Sweet Rose was such a pleasant surprise.

  2. I think H&M's cosmetics are hit or miss but the blushes are usually a hit! Eyeshadows on the other hand are often a miss. I also love their nail polish :)

  4. Great review! I agree with you about cosmetics made in Germany. Anytime I see that on a package I get excited because I know it's going to be great. What is it about the Germans and their epic ability to make wunderbar cosmetics? :D
