Swatches: Sinful Colors Summer 2014 Polishes (Ruby Glisten, Curry Up and Lively in Lilac)

So I found two of the three new Summer 2014 Sinful Colors collections (click here if you missed them) at my local Rite Aid the other day, and would you believe that NONE of the new blue cremes came home with me? Yeah, I don't know what's wrong with me, but I sort of feel like I already have so many Sinful Colors blue polishes from various limited edition collections that I just couldn't justify purchasing more. That said, I didn't leave Rite Aid empty-handed because I had to get three of the other new shades in these collections!

Sinful Colors Nail Colors
1300 Ruby Glisten, 1357 Curry Up, 1434 Lively in Lilac
(retail: $1.99, 0.5 oz)

Curry Up

Three coats, no top coat

Curry Up indeed reminds me of green curry paste (used in some of my very favorite Thai dishes) and it even has some littler "specks" to it, like curry dishes tend to have. How neat, right? But of course Thai green curry doesn't contain iridescent blue-green shimmer, but this polish definitely does! The hidden shimmer really comes out in full sunlight. The sparse little flakies are actually iridescent gold (they look an odd shade of brown in these pics) and you can kind of see the flakies better in this pic that I posted on my Instagram.

This polish required three coats for good opacity. The formula was a bit difficult--it has a "stringy" consistency and it wants to gob up rather than distribute evenly across the nail. Also, there were some leveling issues, but those can always be fixed with a good, thick top coat. Dry-time was average for all three coats. Overall, I will probably just add some polish thinner to this one because it's definitely a keeper. I can honestly say that I don't have another polish quite like this in my stash.

Here's a macro of my nail, where you can see what's going on a bit more. How unique is this polish??

Lively in Lilac

 photo 070-3.jpg
Three coats, no top coat

Lively in Lilac is a purple jelly with small purple and pink (actually, the pink is almost more of a rose-gold) hexagonal glitter. This one required three coats for good coverage--it was still pretty sheer and spotty after two coats. I personally couldn't wear this as a topper because one coat is REALLY spotty and the glitter isn't evenly distributed after one coat. Three coats makes things nice and even, but then you won't really be able to see your base color since this is purple jelly. So yeah, it's best on its own, but just be prepared to apply three coats. Dry time was average on all three coats. The formula is a bit thick and goopy, but not impossible to work with. Also, this one dries to a semi-matte finish.

When I was wearing this, I kept thinking that I had seen this color before. But it's not a blurple like Daddy's Girl (which contains flakies, not glitter) and I Love You doesn't contain pink glitter--just purple. So I don't know. If there is a lookalike that exists in the Sinful Colors line, I have no doubt one of you will enlighten me (please do!).

Ruby Glisten

Two coats + top coat

Ruby Glisten is a red jelly with teeny-tiny red hexagonal glitter. From what Google tells me, Ruby Glisten was previously only available in Europe. So it's nice to see it here in the states, even though it's not what I would call "unique". But if you don't own any red-jellies-with-red-glitter, this could be a nice way to build your stash (I love these types of polishes and I think everyone should own at least one!).

This polish REALLY reminds of the now-discontinued NYC Broadway Burgundy Frost so if you loved BBF, you might want to snag this one while you can. But if you already own NYC BBF or China Glaze Ruby Pumps, Zoya Delilah, Orly Star Spangled, Essie Ruby Slippers, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Red Carpet, etc. etc., no need to rush out and grab this one as it's in the same vein as those polishes.

Two coats was all I needed for perfect opacity. This was a tiny bit thick and goopy, but it wasn't difficult to apply. Dry time was average for both coats. This polish dries to a semi-matte finish so I applied a top coat for these pics, because it just looks so much better with top coat.

Do you own any of the new shades in the Sinful Colors Summer 2014 Collections? If so, which shades do you own and how do you like them so far? I'm STILL looking for Peppered Amazon and I'll swatch that as soon as I get my paws on it!

The products featured in this post were purchased with personal funds. For more information, click here.

  1. Argh! Not one single Walgreen's that I can stop at has these yet - and I can stop at close to a dozen of them. So frustrating, but I'm still looking...

    1. Same here! Not a collection to be had at any of the four Wags I checked at...they all assure me they will get them in, but I want them now! (I know I sound like Veruca from Willy Wonka)

    2. I'm in the same boat as you! Not a rite aid in sight but tons of Walgreen's :(

    3. It seems the summer collections are only at Rite Aid at the moment. At least that I've seen.

    4. Yep, these are not at any Walgreens I've visited. I went to a few last week and 1 this week in search of these new collections, and no Walgreens has had them.

  2. Oh I must get my hands on Curry Up! Lively in Lilac reminds me strongly of Star Dust from the Almost Famous/Paparazzi collection. I'll probably get it anyway even though I already have star dust, lol. Thanks for these swatches, G!

  3. Yellow Spotted and Peppered Amazon are the same colors as Emerald Envy and Face the Facets, just without the texture. I think I'm going to go back and get Curry up, Coral Riff, and Blue Crushin. Plus maybe some back ups of Ruby Glisten and Peppered Amazon since they are so awesome ;)

  4. Ruby Glisten was on my list to buy but since you mentioned Red Carpet and Ruby Slippers, which I already one, I will pass on this one. I am still wanting to get my hands on Peppered Amazon (I think, I will probably wait for your swatches)

  5. For Lively in Lilac, could you be thinking of Star Dust from the Almost Famous collection? That one had purple and fuchsia glitters. Not the same as Lively in Lilac, but it kinda reminded me of it.

    1. I think you are right. I think Lovely in Lilac may be a shade darker, but I think the glitter colors are the same.

  6. All three are gorgeous, but I do love the curry shade the best. I love that shade of green when it has bits of shimmer and sparkle in it, and the only other place I recall seeing it is on an Etsy page.

  7. Curry Up isn't a shade I'd normally go for but as you said, that is one unique polish. And it'd fulfill my occasional lemming for a chartreuse in my stash...yeah, I think I need it.

  8. Thanks so much for posting this G.! Yeah I love the uniqueness of Curry Up. Unfortunately the base color is just a little too much for me. I want more colors that have the speckles and shimmer like that tho!

  9. Curry Up is absolutely unique and it looks so pretty on you!

  10. Thanks for the swatches, G! Curry Up looks really awesome, I can't wait to check it out in person. Lively in Lilac immediately reminded me of Star Dust, which came out in the 2012 holiday collection. Both are purple bases with pink glitter accents. That said, the shades of both the pink and purple look a bit different, based on the pictures. If you recall, Star Dust was pretty close the LE WnW color Back Alley Deals, so you might want to compare Lively in Lilac to that one.

  11. Fair warning, Peppered Amazon stains like a punk. My fingers were green from where I was holding the cotton pad. It's such a gorgeous green that I don't even care for the staining. Nothing a good scrubbing won't fix.

  12. I really like all three of these, but am especially drawn to the green!

  13. Oooh, I want Curry Up! I am a sucker for those type of greens ever since I found Sally Hansen Grass Slipper... and what an odd color to love, right? =)

  14. When was NYC Burgundy Frost discontinued? I've been seeing it out the wazoo lately and just picked up a bottle for myself.

  15. The color I couldn't resist from this collection was Peppered Amazon, the bright green with a slight shimmer. Also, I keep forgetting to take pictures, but Lively in Lilac is definitely different than Super Star. The glitters are different colors of pink and magenta from each other.
