Review: NEW Dove Nourishing Body Wash in Pistachio Cream with Magnolia

You might recall that I posted about this body wash when I first found out about it back in February. At that time, I was sort of freaking out about this new scent from Dove, because I happen to be a big fan of both pistachio and magnolia fragrances. So it sounded like a match made in heaven for my nose, and I was fortunate enough to receive a bottle for review not long after my original post.

So how has this new body wash been working out for me? Keep reading to find out!

NEW Dove Purely Pampering Nourishing Body Wash in Pistachio Cream with Magnolia
(retail: around $5.99, 24 oz)

I love that Dove always matches the color of the flip-top to the scent:

And I also love that this body wash has a very, very pale green color to it (one of my favorite colors ever):

Some of you asked if this body wash might smell like Laura Mercier Creme de Pistache Body Wash (retail: $40, 8 oz) and since I have actually owned Creme de Pistache (I told you I'm crazy for pistachio-scented products!) I can tell you that they are NOT similar. The Laura Mercier body wash smells more like pistachio ice cream to me and you get a real "nutty" note with that fragrance. Dove Pistachio Cream with Magnolia doesn't have the same nuttiness it, but it's quite lovely nonetheless.

To my nose, this body wash doesn't smell strongly of pistachio or magnolia, but I do detect elements of both in the background. There is some warm, sweet spice to this fragrance, but there's also a creaminess to it that I just adore. And there is also a soft floral background to this body wash that keeps it from veering too much into the "spicy zone". To me, it's a perfectly balanced fragrance and I actually like that it doesn't immediately make me think, "Oh look, it's pistachio!" or "Oh look, it's magnolia!" It's a tiny bit of both, but the resulting fragrance is warm, creamy, spicy, sweet and quite unique.

I never thought that I could love a Dove body wash quite as much as Pomegranate & Lemon Verbena, but I'm almost finished with this bottle and all I can think is, "I need more...now." Not only does it smell amazing, but the lather is so incredibly creamy (dare I say even creamier than my beloved Pomegranate & Lemon Verbena), and it's just a joy to use in the shower every day.

FINAL VERDICT: I don't think you have to be a gourmand fragrance fan to enjoy this new scent from Dove. If you generally gravitate toward warm, spicy fragrances, then I think you might fall in love with this one. It does't have a strong "nutty" note to it so if you're afraid it's going to smell like straight-up pistachios, and that's not your thing, you can rest assured that there's much more going on here. It's warm and spicy, yet creamy and floral-fresh at the same time. It's really one of the most unique fragrances I've come across at the drugstore level, and I'm just NUTS about it (see what I did there?). I highly suggest giving it a whiff the next time you're at the drugstore/big box store. It just might find its way into your cart, and I don't think you'll regret it.

Dove Nourishing Body Wash in Pistachio Cream with Magnolia is in stores now and in addition to body wash, this scent is also available in bar soap. I hope Dove decides to make a deodorant in this scent as well (fingers crossed).

  1. I agree that this is not the pistachio nut fragrance that you'd expect. It's mild and has quite a clean smell to it. I hope they come out with a complimentary lotion in this fragrance.

  2. I picked this up about a month ago and quite enjoy it. I'm just now delving into the world of scented drugstore body washes, so I'm enjoying my experimentation stage.

  4. I've been using this for the past month as well and I adore it! I am totally in love with the scent. The first time I saw this, I smelled it but didn't purchase it but I could not stop thinking about it afterwards so the next day I had to go and get it lol

Maybe it is my bottle or my nose but I do detect a nuttiness to the scent, however it is quite a creamy spicy scent like you noted. I don't really get the magnolia but like you stated, I think it is something there to stop it from being one dimensional, it softens the fragrance.

I would LOVE it if they made a lotion with this scent!

  5. I am having a serious love affair with this product. Is it limited edition? I also am really hoping that Dove makes a lotion with this scent.

  6. As soon I as first read about this on the blog, I kept a look out for it. found awhile ago at Target and while I don't usually like to spend that much on body wash I bought. I adore magnolia scents so much and I do love this! So perfect for spring! It is florally and warm and just a little nutty! I find it to be so creamy that I have been using it to shave my legs! I just can't say enough about how much I love it and will absolutely spend the $5.99 for this again!

  7. I was hunting this down and finally found it, so I stocked up on 4 bottles. You're right - it's nothing like Creme de Pistache - I like this way better! They should make a lotion, body spray, ANYTHING else with this scent

    1. Thanks so much for saying that! I heard it was a dupe for the Laura Mercier and when I smelled it I was like, "NOPE! " but people are still saying it. So strange because they're nothing alike to me. Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way!

Anyway, so glad you love it too! :)

  12. I'm a big fan of all the dove body washes, so of course I bought this. It smells so amazing in the shower and I agree it's super creamy. I also love the blue fig one and the plum sakura one.
