Review: Boum Vanille Sa Pomme d'Amour Eau de Parfum by Jeanne Arthes

A few weeks ago, I spotted a Boum fragrance display at Walgreens and I may or may not have let out a little squeal when I spotted it. Boum fragrances, by Jeanne Arthes, aren't that easy to come by at the drugstore (at least in my area) and I was so delighted to find three Boum eau de parfums in a little display at Walgreens for $9.99 each (3.3 oz). I wouldn't say these are obscure French perfumes, but I just don't see them everyday in stores here in the US (you can easily order them online).

After much debating between the three fragrances in the display (I'll show you pic of the display at the end of this post), Vanille Sa Pomme d'Amour came home with me. Let's take a look!

I adore this vintage Parisian carnival artwork...

"...you are spinning in the middle of sweet notes of praline and apple to finish on a mild touch of vanilla...A moment where all emotions get mixed...And you want more, always more..."

From Fragrantica:
Boum Vanille Sa Pomme d'Amour by Jeanne Arthes is a Floral Fruity fragrance for women. This is a new fragrance. Boum Vanille Sa Pomme d'Amour was launched in 2012. Top note is orange; middle notes are red apple and praline; base notes are musk and vanilla.

Orange, red apple, praline, musk and vanilla. If you're a gourmand fan, what is there not to love about this fragrance? And indeed, I do love this. I get a strong burst of crisp red apple during the opening of this fragrance (I really don't detect any orange) and within a minute or two, I get some nice vanilla smoothness. Nothing smells painfully artificial about this fragrance to me (yay!).

It takes a few minutes for the praline to come through, but once it does, it really shines here, making this an even more scrumptious fragrance. In short, this is a youthful, playful dessert-type fragrance that, for me personally, never becomes cloying or headache-inducing. The vanilla (which smells more like vanilla bean to me) keeps it smooth and prevents it from being one of those one-note apple fragrances such as the old Body Fantasies Apple Fantasy fragrance. It really doesn't remind me of any other apple fragrances that I've owned over the years--it's not similar in any way to Bath & Body Works Country Apple, Bath & Body Works Winter Candy Apple, etc.

Both projection and staying-power are moderate for me. This isn't a big, bold fragrance and you'll probably need several spritzes if you want it to last longer than an hour or two (but hey, at $9.99 a bottle, it's not a crime to be heavy-handed with this one).

FINAL VERDICT: If you're a gourmand lover who gravitates toward apple fragrances, this one's for you. The combination of crisp, red apple, smooth vanilla and sweet praline make this a fragrance that's downright irresistible to me. It would probably be best suited for fall/winter, but that's not going to stop me from rocking this one year-around. And how cute is this packaging? That's definitely an added bonus!

PS: As I mentioned at the top of this post, here's what the display at Walgreens looks like:

  1. I've never heard of this brand. I would have never even given this display another look to be honest. I might have to check these out next time I'm at Walgreens. I love perfume and for that price, if the quality is decent, I might just buy one.

  2. I haven't heard of this brand either. Sounds like it smells really good though, it kind of reminds me of "The Night Circus." Have you ever read that book?

  3. I was confused at first by this post because these are in like EVERY walgreens in my area, and have been as far back as December, so I thought this was about something else at first. I got the cherry blossom one for my sister who compares it favorably to a high end green tea cherry blossom perfume she had a lemming for previously

  4. If you're a fan of the Night Circus, check out Black Phoenix Alchemy Laboratories. Beth, the perfume creator, was a big influence in the writing of the book, Erin Morganstern even mentions the Lab in the book credits! PS. Not shilling for the Lab, I'm just long time fangirl.

As an aside, this fragrance sounds like similar to Desire, one of my favorites from Black Phoenix.

  5. This sounds amazing-wonder if its on walgreens website? I wish I could find a fragrance for the discontinued Aramis new west for her-some say adidas fresh impact is similar but I cant find it-i would even order an "our version" fragrance oil if I could find one close to this! Anyone have any ideas????

  6. I ran out to two different Walgreens to find this today and luckily the second one had it. I love gourmand fragrances and this sounds lovely, plus the price is right. I think I'll be wearing it a lot this spring/summer.

  7. I haven't heard of this brand either but this perfume sounds right up my alley! I'm very picky about them and I tend to lean towards the lighter, fruitier scents. I'll definitely have to check out my walgreens soon. :D
