Swatches: New Jordana Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stains

This week at Walgreens (through 8/10), all Jordana eye and lip products are BOGO1/2OFF. To coincide with this sale, many Walgreens locations have rolled out the new-for-2013 Jordana products and the two that seem to be getting the most raves around here so far are the 12 HR Made To Last Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils (which apparently are very similar to Jordana's sister company Milani's version, Shadow Eyez, and even include an Almond shade like the LE Shadow Eyez!) and the Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stains.

A huge thanks to reader Sophia, who found the Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stains at her local Walgreens (FYI: she found them randomly placed in the display, so even if your Walgreens hasn't reset the new display yet, keep an eye open for these in the old display!). Sophia was nice enough to share pics and swatches of the four shades she purchased. Take a look!

I already shared some snippets from reader comments about these balm stains (and also the new jumbo shadow pencils) in this post, but today I'd like to share with you part of an email I received the other day from reader Swapna.
Swapna writes:
...Love your blog and have found great brands and great deals here, was introduced to Jordana through your blog.
And now its my favorite drugstore brand. I found the Jordana twist and shine moisturizing balm stains, bought Terra Crave and Cranberry Crush , OMG, it's like a match in heaven for a lip junkie like me, wonderful colors, moisturizing, and the stain lasted for an entire 9 hour work day, where I am constantly sipping and eating, and the icing on the cake, my lips feel smooth even at night!!!!
They are probably my HG lip product (Comes from someone who has at least 500 lipglosses)! Hope you like them as much as I do , they beat the everything out of Clinique, Revlon, Tarte, or any other balm stains out there!!!
Swapna, if you're reading this, you have me absolutely convinced that I need to try these ASAP! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us (and I'm so happy I could help introduce you to one of my favorite affordable beauty brands!).

Have you spotted/purchased any of these new balm stains from Jordana yet? Thoughts? At the time of this post, these are not yet on the Jordana website, so you'll have to look for them at Walgreens.

And thanks again, Sophia, for the awesome pics and swatches. I really appreciate it!

  3. I am so excited to try these!! I wanted to love the Revlon Just Bitten balms, but I found them to be a bit drying on my lips. I am hoping the Jordana ones have a better feel to them.

    1. The regular price for mine came up as $3.49, but I got 2 on sale with the BOGO 1/2 off sale, so the average price comes out to $2.61.

  4. I found three rolling around my local Wags - not properly in a display or anything. I just bought one, the Cranberry Crush, and it is gorgeous! I was going to buy the Clinique chubby stick in Broadest Berry, but I have found a more than suitable replacement! This is a pretty berry color, sheer but with plenty of pigment. And it is actually moisturizing. I have been looking for a berry colored balm for ages, and now I'm set!

I love this style of gloss/balm. I've owned the Clinique (which I do like, but they are pricey) and the Revlon (I loved at first for the gorgeous colors, but they dried out my lips terribly!

For what it's worth: I DO like Maybelline Baby Lips and I do NOT like Revlon Lip Butters (they feel heavy and annoying on me). The texture on the Jordana reminds me more of the Maybelline. In fact, my two favorite color balms right now are my Jordana in Cranberry Crush and my Baby Lips in Pink Shock.

  8. I actually bought the Candied Coral and Rock N Rouge shades yesterday and find these comparable to the Revlon ones. The scent is different - it's an artificial, nondescript fruity scent that I don't love, but it doesn't bother me. They also have a shade that looks very similar to the Revlon Honey one (even has honey in the name). I found a few of these thrown into the old Jordana display at my Wags (no special section) if that helps anyone. I also bought the matte white & almond eyeshadow pencils!

  9. Sadly, the Walgreen's in the Dallas area don't carry Jordana. I hope that the Jordana website starts listing them soon.

  10. Oh! Now I have to try these out! I hope you'll be reviewing these. I really love your reviews and try to find them for any drugstore product I'm googling.

  11. I hit four Walgreens tonight. Three had nothing new, but one had both the eye shadow pencils and the balm stains. They'd already sold a lot, but I found an Almond eye shadow -- a quick test and I'm in love. Looks like awesome coverage (but I've never tried the Milani, so I can't compare.) I wanted Cranberry Crush in the lip product, but it was sold out. I bought Honey Love instead, which is very similar to the Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in Honey. The textures of the Jordanas seem more moisturizing. I think I like them better, and they're a lot cheaper!

  12. I rushed to Walgreens yesterday after I read your drugstore sales highlights, G! I guess Jordana stuff is kinda pricey in my neck of the woods, but it was still pretty good. I got two of the chubby eye pencils, two of the liquid pencil eyeliners (really good, like the Milani ones), one of the lipbalms (I think it's called Honey Love -- great MLBB shade) and the extreme volume mascara, the brush of which is HUGE! But I think the Fabulash is better so far (I've just tried the former once). All that for $20 with the BOGOHO deal.

  13. I just got 2 of these last night because I wanted to take advantage of the sale, Terra Crave and Cranberry Crush. My Walgreens did not have the new display and had these kind of shoved into the regular display. There were 3 colors there, 1 each of the colors I got and a few of Honey Love. Cranberry Crush really reminds me of Revlon Just Bitten in Adore, which I love. I actually haven't opened in it yet in case it's too close. I have opened Terra Crave and it seems like a really nice neutral. Good, moisturizing texture, no strong fragrance and a lasting stain.

  14. I am not sure how the bonus buy works I went to my Walgreens and none of the Jordana make up is buy one other 50% off.

  15. I brought two and I like them so far. They don't require a lot of exploiting before application (if you have very dry lips like me). The 12 HR Made To Last Jumbo Eye shadow Pencils are amazing I brought 6 colors and I brought a rimmel shade jumbo eye shadow stick to compare the two both are amazing. What I love about the jordana is that there affordable and last all day and best part is that I don't need to pair them with eye shadows I can wear it alone and it does last 12 hrs....I'm missing the white and champagne pink looking color which I plan to go back and get :-)

  16. I left early for work this morning just so I could stop by one of my local Wags and get these. I got 4 (Rock n Rouge, Candied Coral, Tropical Frenzy and Honey Love). I've tried on 3 of the 4 so far this morning and Rock n Rouge is my favorite of them. It's a lovely almost watermelon red. It sort of reminds me of Viva Glam Cyndi, only slightly more red. I love how pigmented they are and how they feel. They smell nice too. Now to see how long they last without me wiping them off every half hour to try on a different one :)

  17. This product goes on very smoothly and feels nice on the lips. They are also very pigmented. However, I do not find that these are an actual stain. At least for me, the color did not stay on my lips and I found I needed to reapply after my morning coffee.

I agree that the smell is very artificial. The scent reminds me of those scented markers I had growing up.

    1. I agree. I don't feel that they really stain either and I barely see any color after drinking or eating. I picked up Cranberry Crush, Tropical Frenzy, Rock N Rouge and Candied Coral. I find them to be moisturizing at first, but then my lips get really dry not long after. Maybe it's the peppermint oil in the Revlon Balmstains that keeps the lips feeling moisturized.

I had really high hopes for these after I heard all the raves about them, but unfortunately I think I'm gonna have to return them or give them away. :(

  18. I guess the BOGO half off deal isn't everywhere based on what Pinkbeauty_love said. I was going to ask because I just came back from Walgreens and there was no sale. I didn't even look at the receipt before I left since I was asking about my pictures that needed to be developed, so I think I'll go back tomorrow and return the 2 eyeliners and one of balms. Since it's not on sale, I might as well just buy one to try out first. Sad!

    1. I called the same Walgreens that I went to yesterday to check to make sure it wasn't just a register error. The girl tried it again, and alas, no sale! I also hate that many times products in NYC cost more than elsewhere. I did, however, confirm the return policy on cosmetics because I get nervous about it, so I may try one balm stain (I chose Tropical Frency and Cranberry Crush) and one of the 12 Hr Made to Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencils. I normally wear pewter or charcoal, so I chose 03 Charcoal Definition and I also picked up 01 Black Point so that maybe I can wear black for fancier occasions. Thanks for the info here, G! I've been obsessively checking your page to get the latest scoop ever since I came across it in a nail polish search. I like how I can see what other people think too.

  19. I found them in a Chicago Walgreens for $3.29. I got two, one is honey love and other candied coral. They are very moisturizing.

  20. Omg thank you for the swatches! All of them look great.

  21. I picked up Tropical Frenzy for my myself and Honey Love for my mom while I was at Wags yesterday. They wear just as nicely as my Just Bitten does but WOW is Tropical Frenzy bright! The swatch really doesn't so it justice, it's much closer to the tube color than it looks in pictures. Honey Love turned out beautifully and is definitely a 'your lips but better' color on her which is just what she was looking for. Mine might have been a bust but my mom's worked out perfect for her so I think I'll be stalking other wags for some other colors to try, these are great.

  22. I am in Bama and they aren't on sale here either :(

  23. In Chicago- they were $3.29 b1g1 50% I picked up two, most of the softer colors were gone, darnit, Got Terra crave and candied coral, love both when blotted down!! They really do not appear to be drugstore 'quality' much higher, loving Jordana!

  24. I got "Terra Crave" and "Honey Love" and will be going back for more! Also picked up the almond and white shadow pencils, both of which are matte, and I am loving them!

  25. The Cover Girl Smoochies(which aren't nearly as sheer, and are moisturizing) is so much better than The Cover Girl Jumbo Lip perfection Gloss Balm which is so sheer ( the color was nice and good for my skin tone,Apricot Twist) it didn't even hardly show up on my lips and was drying on my lips which many other women who have used it said the same things on beauty review blogs like Ulta, and Make Up Alley.Luckily I got mine with a free Cover Girl coupon the company sent me and I threw the balm out.

The Jordana Twist and Shine Lip Balm Stains are very good though, and the new NYC Twistable Intense Lip Color is very good too,it's not a balm stain though it's more of a creamy lipstick type of formula and the color Canal St Coral is really beautiful.
