The Wednesday Question

What's your favorite type of blush (pressed powder, baked, mineral, creme, gel, liquid. etc.) and why?

For years and years, my go-to has been pressed powder blushes. Then I really started to love baked blushes, and now I find myself reaching for cremes (in sticks or pots) a lot. The formulations of creme blushes at the drugstore have vastly improved over the years and they're so easy to apply using just your fingers.

  1. I am pretty much addicted to creme blush right now. I love the way it looks and I think it lasts longer than powder. I apply it with a blush brush instead of my fingers, so easy! I like the way it sort of melts into my skin, making it look natural. Flower by Drew Barrymore has a great creme blush.

  2. I really am feeling cremes for that last few months. I really thought I had my HG in Physicians Formula Happy Booster, but my skin is dry and I think cremes help keep my skin looking moist. The funny thing is right now I am using a berry color creme that I found while waiting in line to check out at Aeropostale! It was literally .49 cents! Too bad I won't be able to replace it as it was in the clearance bin. I only bought the one b/c I didn't know what I would think of it! LOL

  4. i have tried cream and stick blushes as well as loose-powder, but my favorite are still pressed-powder blushes. specifically, my MOST favorite is L'Oreal Feel Naturale Blush in Mauvelous. but checking their website, i dont think they make this line anymore!

  5. I love a pressed powder! I guess because my skin can be oily, the powder stays better.

  6. I find different blushes work well with different foundations. The blush I wear when my skin is dry is more emollient and works best with cream or gel blushes. If I use powder blushes with it, they tend to kind of separate the foundation and look funky. But other foundations work best with powder. On my friends with perfect skin, I love to use just gel blush or other staining types, because it looks the most natural. Sigh! Wish I had that skin myself!

  7. I like cremes right now. They go on smoothly and evenly and can give a dewy effect. Currently I like the blushes from the Flower line and Revlon Photoready. The Revlon Baby Stick in Pink Passion also works well for me.

  8. I prefer powder, especially the tarte ones they last a long time on my oily skin

  9. Pressed powder is always my favorite because they're quick and easy to apply, and they're what I've always used since I've been wearing makeup. I love the Wet n Wild blushes, NYX's Pinched, and the Laura Gellar baked blushes. I really wanna try Milani's too. I have a few cream blushes, but rarely use them because I'm not good at applying them or I just don't know the best way to use them. I have two Revlon Photoready cream blushes, but they're not very creamy. I have a NYC Blushable Creme Stick, which I do enjoy a little bit. My cousin gave me a Maybelline mineral blush that she didn't like, but I don't like it either because it's messy and it's way too easy for me to go overboard with it.

Sorry for such a long answer. I didn't mean for it to be, hehe.

  10. So far I've only tried powder blushes. Been eyeing a few cremes but I've heard they're not great on oily skin so I've skipped them.

  11. For me it depends on the time of year. Creme blushes tend to work better in winter when powders can look a little dull and fake. However, powder blush definitely wins for color selection.

  12. I've only ever owned pressed powder blush. It's kind of an afterthought product for me, I've never owned more than three at a time, and that only because I already had one, one was a gift, and one was on super-duper-amazing clearance so I picked it up as a backup.

I had a bad experience early in my makeup learning curve with creme eyeshadow, and that really put me off from creme makeups in general for a long time. I'm just now finally realizing that creme products are not all created equal in terms of formula and ease of non-streaky application!

  13. I like mineral blushes because they seem longer lasting on my skin and are pigmented. I have used up several BE and other mineral companies throughout the years, so they must work rather well for me.

  14. Most of my blushes are pressed powder. I was really into creme blushes for a bit but I have an easier time building up powder blushes; with cremes I either end up with clown cheeks or invisible blush. Powder also tends to last longer on my combo skin. If anyone's got tips on how to apply creme blush I'm all ears, though--I have a few I really like but never wear.

    1. I only started using cream blush since last year, before that I never would've thiought it would work w super oily skin. I use my ring finger to pick up some product...giving it a few swirls in the pot/pan etc. Then I make a fingertip sized dot on my cheekbone, always take pointer and middle finger and place them straight nxt to your nose, that's where blush should begin, any closer to the nose makes the face look too full or round. Once a dot is placed on each cheek, I make light letter X swipes to distribute around the cheek and towards the ear/hairline. Followed by more finger blending using light tapping until it looks like a natural flush. Btw as far as picking a shade that best works as a "natural glow" for you as an individual, I learned many years ago to use the colour of your inner bottom lip as a guide. :)

  15. I'm not much of a blush girl... but I prefer pressed powder or baked. Milani make my favorites of both types (well technically the pressed powder are discontinued, but I believe Cherry Culture still sells them so I bet they are out there in other places as well). I also like the Loreal True Match blushes.. which no one ever talks about.

  16. Always has been mineral, pressed or baked, until last summer when I tried Revlon PhotoReady creme...the hot coral or w/e. Then a few months ago I gave the Flower cream a try, and as someone w super oily skin I'm impressed. Very natural looking and long lasting. Love those, and love the Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes, a little goes a long way. I've had one of them over a year and barely put a dent in it (though I do rotate, so...). Gel is great, but I have had some brands *ahem, Benetint* totally settle into my cheek pores, and look like I was attacked w a red ballpoint pen. : /

  18. I tried out the elf hd cream blush and unfortunately, that stuff settled into my pores like crazy. I tried cream blush a few times but I find it hard to properly apply.. I always go back to my powders! I am in love with elf studio line ( bought all colors, depotted them and made a bug blush palette!! Also NYX blushes- are amazing and come in so many great colors. I also am in love with sleek cosmetics blush- they are wonderful- so pigmented and come in awesome brights!

  19. Thong by Meow Cosmetics, which happens to be a loose powder. I don't usually wear foundation, but when I do it's that. A super tiny bit goes a long, long way. It's the only blush/bronzer I own.

  20. Loving the NYX pressed powder blushes, especially the new color "Red" (with a light hand!) and Taupe to contour, and I'm loving Silk Naturals cream blushes too, dabbed on with a warm finger and then blended. My favourite mineral blush right now and for the last year is Lucy Minerals Matte Rose. And my old stand-by favourite is Milani baked blush in Coralina.

  21. I really like L'Oreal's Magic Souffle Blush in Cherubic. I like a subtle wash of pink for everyday, so I appreciate that you really can't overdo it with this. Or, rather, that if you try to use too much the product sort of clumps up on your cheeks until you blend it out. Of course if you like a more pigmented look this would not be a plus.

  22. I tend to prefer powder in summer when my skin is oilier, and cremes or mousse formulas in winter, for a dewier look. But I'm not firm to those rules either.
