Tweets:) Water-Based Nail Colors at Walmart

In the past week I've seen a handful of you mention this new nail polish brand that's currently landing in Walmart stores. Reader Inna not only shared some pics of the display, but also some bottle shots, swatches and mini-review!

Tweets:) polishes are water-based and claim to be odor-free. Keep reading to see Inna's take on them and why I'm personally freaking out a little bit about these!

First of all, can we talk for a minute about how water-based polishes are usually $15+ at my local natural foods stores? That's part of why I haven't tried one yet (well, that and I've seen some bad reviews about wear-time). I'd say that $2.97 is a decent price to at least try a water-based polish (granted, you only get 0.22 oz for $2.97 but even if you doubled that, $6 for a full-size bottle is still decent).

There are 30 shades in this display and all of the shade names are "text speak." I must be seriously old because I only understand about 10% of these names:

It's a water-based nail polish so it's apparently safer and is actually odor free! I've swatched the 6 that I bought (see below) and can confirm that it actually has NO SMELL WHATSOEVER...I'm seriously impressed by these polishes. Some of the ones I got were opaque in one coat and the rest were opaque in 2, except for the opalescent white (which you'll see). Also, they dry really quickly but I have no idea about the wear of these or how quickly they'll start chipping. I don't really mind though because I bought them for the shades. They had a great variety of them and some unique ones as well.

This green was interesting because it was just green at first but when you shake it up you see these blue shimmers appear. You can't see them on the nail though once you paint it on.

What I personally am REALLY freaking out about here is that these bottles remind of the old-school (I'm talking REALLY old-school, like '70s era) Avon polish bottles. Specifically the lids! I remember being a very young girl and running my fingnail across the ridges of my mom's Avon polish bottles and totally ruining them. Ha! So for that reason, and because I've always wanted to try a water-based polish, I must pick some of these up!

Have you spotted these polishes yet? Thoughts?

Thanks so much, Inna, for the fantastic pics and swatches. I really appreciate it!

  1. Those are pretty colors!

I don't like how those are stored upside-down at Walmart. Given how shoppers treat the cosmetics aisles there, I can just foresee a disaster.

And what does "the nail color that communicates" even mean?

I'm not very interested in water-based polishes, but I would be interested in the wear of these, and I think it's great to have more extensive options for those who are worried about the chemicals in regular nail polish. And those bottles make me nostalgic as well!

    1. The "comunication" of the nail color refers to the text-speak names each one has. It's supposed to be a joke. :)

  2. Lol I'm about 17 and I'm totally cringing at the names, but the polishes themselves look cute.

  3. How interesting! I'll be honest I've never heard of water-based polish (yikes!), but I think I'll keep my eyes out for these next time I'm at Walmart.

  4. I am not really digging the colors. And the cheesy names are horrible. I have been intrigued about water based polish but I think I'll skip on these.

  5. I'm 20 and even I have not seen most of the text speak they use. I'm sure other people my age would agree.

  6. These are some cute nail polishes.....It just funny how when someone ask what's name of the color you have on your nails, and you say ROFL.....

  7. No glutens? Is this gluten-free everything trend spreading to cosmetics? Is gluten even normally in nail polish? I never would have thought that would be an issue....

    1. They throw the word gluten free on everything these days. I thought it was weird when they say it on juice bottles, but on nail polish it's just nonsensical.

      Delete
    2. Nope. Hydrolyzed wheat protein (gluten) is used in some nail polish, which could be really bad for a celiac.

    3. Having gluten free personal care products and cosmetics is extremely important for people with a gluten sensitivity or Celiac disease. My partner's mother has Celiac; if she uses eyeliner or mascara with a gluten byproduct her eyes water up, start burning, become red, and the skin nearby will break out. My partner does not have Celiac but is still sensitive to gluten; he cannot use shampoo with gluten or he gets very painful scalp acne.

  8. I'm 21 and only recognize a few of the names. I think they just made most of them up :P

  9. I feel old, I only understood about 5 of the names lol

  10. Definitely interested in trying out a water-based polish, and some of these colors are nice. But those names...I'm in my 20s and only understood like, five of them I think. ._.

  11. Even though I think they are marketing to very young ladies, heck, I want to try some!

  12. "No glutens?" For a nail polish? Really?

    1. You would not believe the kinds of things that have gluten used in them. Nail polish, hair spray, shampoo & conditioner, lotion, bug spray... the list goes on and on.

    2. I think these would be good for little girls just starting to want to use polish. I wonder if they remove with alcohol like Piggy Paints do.

    3. My child has Celiac Disease and I've only painted toe nails for the simple fact that painted fingers do end up the mouth - whether it's eating finger foods, making funny faces or whatever. As this line seems to be marketed for kids and/or their chemically-overprotective parents, being gluten free seems like a good choice. I'll definitely check it out.

I also have to buy gluten-free lip balm (eos). So yes, it's trendy for some but, completely necessary for others.

  13. I love their ingredients list! safer is always a good thing in my book......

  14. These are awesome...thanks for posting!! I'm going to check my Wal-Mart today for these.

  15. Something tells me they just made up most of those names...

Some of the colors are cute but not cute enough to make me want to try the formula. If these are water-based, does that mean they're similar to acrylic paint?

  16. Call me skeptical, but I'm suspecting that this sounds all too good to be true. A water based nail polish line that is natural, odor free, with no nasty chemicals, and CHEAP?! That doesn't sound like things you usually find at Wal-Mart.

  17. I saw them yesterday and pass right by them because of the common colors. Might go back to look at them alittle harder.

  18. I don't know if these will make it to Canada, but I'll definitely let a friend of mine here know about them. She has multiple chemical sensitivity and water-based polishes would be great for her. I got her a couple of Sula for a gift once and she *loved* them, but they're hard to find. These would mean a trip to the States, but they're so affordable she could get a pile of them.

  19. I wonder if their basecoat would work well under holos (since the Nfu Oh Aqua Base is supposed to be so great for them)? I might try that out. I found their website and it says you have to remove this polish in a special way (it says regular remover won't work with them): http://tweetscosmetics.com/manicure

  20. From what I've read, water-based polish + hot shower = end of wear. No thanks.

And yes -- storing cheap polish upside down at WalMart... what could POSSIBLY go wrong?!? ;-)

  21. I also had an instant 70s Avon flashback. All those Vintage Avon products are etched in my memory. I remember a cologne bottle in the shape of an angel or doll...

  22. This is kind of very exciting! I've always wanted to try a more natural alternative. I purchased honey bee gardens online, and they are expensive, streak and don't stay. Plus the dry time is ridiculous. I hope my Walmart gets these!

  23. Oh dear.. I could see myself easily buying all of these. They are so cute! The names are definitely annoying, but the colors are fabulous. I'm curious about how easy the removal process with be though due to what a previous commenter Liza said. Hmm..

  24. These look pretty good! I wonder how they compare to zoya polishes...

  25. Really cool but not really any unqice colors, also i saw in the website all the meaning of the nail polish!

  27. water-based nailpolish is great for KIDS - piggy paints are like 6x the price. If you have a toddler that you want to paint their toenails this is a great option. I personally won't use the colors that I bought for me but they are perfect for my daughter!

  28. I like this polish because it dries so quickly. Fits my lifestyle. However, the only thing I have found that removes it is 100% Pure Acetone Nail Polish Remover. No alcohol does not remove it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The names of these polishes are translated on their website which is a Tumblr page. The FUMTC never became opaque because it is the top coat (Finish Ur Milk Top Coat). And the base coat is B4C (Before Coat).

  30. Has no smell, dries almost instantly, don't know yet about remover. Will see how it wears this week.

  31. I've been looking for water based nail polish so I can paint my baby girls nails and she wont get sick if she sticks her hnd or feet in her mouth. I've walked past this display alot but never new it was water based polish lmao thanks for lettin me know :)

  32. I got these at Walmart yesterday for a dollar ...gotta love cheap :-)
