Review: Revlon Nail Enamel in Enchanting

The product featured in this review was provided to Nouveau Cheap by the brand. For my full disclosure, please see the bottom of this blog post.

Continuing my mini-series of reviews featuring some of the new-for-2013 Revlon nail polish shades sent to me for review, today I'd like to show you Enchanting:

Revlon Nail Enamel in 220 Enchanting
(retail: around $4.99, 0.5 oz)

Keep reading for swatches!

At first glance, you may think that this a creme polish. But upon closer (much closer) inspection, and if you hold the bottle at just the right angle, you will see that this polish has some hidden pink shimmer to it:

This shimmer is so fine and so hidden that you really have to look closely to detect it. I can't stress that enough (I don't want any of you to think I'm a liar if you it see in the store and can't detect any shimmer!).

It's difficult to see in my photos, but if you look really closely, you can see the hidden shimmer in these swatches:

(two coats, no top coat)

Can you kind of see it?

This polish has a thin consistency, but it's not watery. Two coats yields perfect opacity, which is what I'm wearing in the photos above. What makes this polish a little bit more special than other medium-toned lilac and lavender cremes is that it contains that super-hidden shimmer. It doesn't read as shimmer to the naked eye, but I think it gives this color some depth and sets it apart from flatter, more one-dimensional lavender and lilac cremes.

Enchanting is a what I would describe as a warm-toned medium lavender with hidden pink shimmer. The closest shade that I can think of for a comparison is maybe something like Illamasqua Jo'Mina (although Jo'Mina doesn't contain any hidden shimmer).

FINAL VERDICT: If you're a lavender or lilac fan and you're been looking for a warm-toned lavender for spring, I think this one's got your name all over it. Enchanting has a thin, easy-to-work-with  formula and two coats yields perfect opacity. The hidden pink shimmer doesn't really read as shimmer on the nail, but I find that it gives the overall color some added depth and dimension. It's quite lovely and even prettier in real life.

  1. Looks like jelly beans! It is pretty but not really special. I can't believe I said that! Considering when it comes to polish I feel compelled to own them all!

  4. I saw this on 50% off clearance last night at Rite Aid, but it didn't come home w me as I find regular Revlon enamel to take wayyy too long to dry. I don't find this issue w the Top Spead or Colorstay line though. Very pretty shade, and under store lighting I totally did not detect that suble shimmer.

    1. Agreed. I tend to stay away from normal Revlon enamel for this reason as well. Remarks on dry time between coats would be appreciated on all polish reviews.

    2. Sorry I forgot to talk about dry time in this review, ladies!

Due to the thinner consistency, I find the dry time between coats (and after the final coat) to be quite good. In fact, the issue I have with dry time is with the Top Speeds (ironic, I know). Some of the Top Speeds I own take a very long time to dry! But this one, and also the teal I reviewed a few days ago dried very quickly for me.

      Hope that helps!

  8. OH MY.

I do love a good hidden shimmer! I'm generally a shimmer gal. Once in a while I feel like wearing a creme, but then I get bored of it too quickly and throw a shimmer top coat on anyway. So hidden shimmers strike the perfect balance! Creme-y enough to satisfy those occasional desires for something a little more understated, but shimmery enough to keep my interest.

  9. Lovely shade, and I think the pink shimmer makes it lovelier! I plan to hunt it down with my next CVS EB coupon. I get them frequently, since the whole house is on a lot of prescribed meds. XD
