Sneak Peek: Sally Hansen Salon Insta Gel Strips and Gel Polishes

Last week I posted some video previews (which are now unavailable for some reason) of the new Sally Hansen At-Home Salon Insta Gel Manicure Strips (yes, strips!) and Gel Polishes. Today I've got lots more info for you, including where you can purchase these products, so keep reading if you'd like to see the latest gel manicure products to hit the drugstore...

Keep reading for more info and photos...

All of these products can now be purchased on the Target website and should be hitting stores soon (more info on that at the bottom of this post).

Let's start with the Sally Hansen Salon Insta Gel Strips, which seem to be a completely new innovation (I haven't seen gel strips before, have you?). These strips require an LED light to cure (more on that in a bit), so you can't just buy them, bring them home and have them work without having a LED light. They come in 24 shades including both patterns as well as solid colors.

Here's the kit that's designed to be used with the Insta Gel Nail Strips:

Here's a sampling of the patterns and solid colors in the Insta Gel Strip line:

(retail: $13.79, includes 16 strips, top coat, cleanser pads, cuticle stick, file and buffer)

Now for the Sally Hansen Gel Polishes. Here's the kit designed to be used with the polishes:

And here is a sampling of the Gel Polish shades (click here to view all 16 shades):

(retail: $11.99, 0.14 oz)

Interesting that some of the Gel Polish shades are also shades in the Complete Salon Manicure line (like Commander in Chic). It's nice that if you have a favorite CSM color, you might also now be able to have it in gel form.

At the bottom of the email I received today, there was this:

As you can see, the full line of Sally Hansen Salon Gel products is now available on the Target website, and these products will also be available at Walgreens starting Monday, 9/23 (not sure if that's an online launch date or an in-store launch date, but I'm sure these products will be available in stores very soon).

What do you think about these new gel manicure products from Sally Hansen? Are you anxious to see them in person? Do you think you'll give them a try? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

  1. i'm wondering if the light from the sally hansen gel kit can be used with other gel polishes. i've been eyeing the kit sold at sephora but it's SO expensive, and it would be nice to just get the inexpensive light and be able to use it with other polishes.

    1. Some gel polishes require a certain wattage to make sure the polish cures. I bought one from ebay for 24 bucks at its a 36W and so far it has worked with every polish I've bought. I use to have a low wattage lamp and it would take FOREVER to dry.

    2. I have a 36W lamp that came with my other brand of gel polish.Don't like their polish anymore, wonder if the gel strips would work with my 36W.

    3. Generally, led lamps are fine across brands. It gets a little bit stickier though, when you start talking about uv lamps and uv gels. Never use an led lamp to cure a gel that says to use uv only. They won't cure because the light is not a broad enough spectrum. Even if they look cured on top, it's possible that it would still be a gooey mess underneath. Sometimes they wont cure at all. All uv lamps are not created equal either, so be careful with uv gels. The great thing about uv lamps is that they will cure your LEDs gels too, so if you get a good uv lamp you're set. Led lamps are nice because they cure fast, but these cheapo ones are so small that you end up spending extra time doing your thumbs separate, so you end up losing the time advantage.

    4. The strips didn't work for me at all but I ended up using my regular nail polish with the gel and light and it has worked great so far :)

  4. wow patterned gel strips! That's pretty amazing. @Kathryn I'm sure it will, it's an LED lamp. The only major difference is this one is tiny so it only does one nail at a time.

  5. This really looks like a lot of hassle to me. I guess because I have an 11 month old that I care for 24-7 and barely get time to do regular mania which I do twice a week at home. And for the price I don't really see much of a difference I could go to a nail salon and it would probably be cheaper. But that's just my opinion.

  10. I fell in love with gel manicures this summer! I get a light coat or french tips and then a few days later I polish over with my regular polish! Anyway, I was planning to ask "Santa" for the red carpet gel manicure system for Christmas, but just maybe I will get the gel strip one. Will have to do more research first! What about you G.? Gonna make the splurge?

  11. Dying to read some reviews of this! I LOVE the OPI salon gel manicures. They are amazing, and I'm considering an at-home kit. The strips sound really cool. I feel like Sally Hansen will make a quality product.

  14. The strips say they can be revived easily with just polish remover...a huge advantage over other systems which are hard to remove. I wonder whether the SH gel polished will work the same way?

  15. i've been wanting to try this for a little while now. have you tried it? is it worth the money?

  16. I just picked up a pack of the insta-gel strips at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They had about 6 different strip designs, the strip starter kit, and some of the polish starter kits, but no individual polishes.

  17. I was very disappointed with the results. I've tried two colors now and they both chipped within days. I have done my own gel polish for several years now and I have never had a problem with Shellac, OPI, Gelish, or Red Carpet. Until they reformulate the product, I'm done buying anymore of their gel polishes.

  18. Im happy with the results of my pink sparkley gel manicure. So far so good. Just wondering though, if you can use regular polish strips with the gel top?

  19. love them, however sad, that strip kit lamp is to weak for gel polish,,,
strips can be used just by itself without any topcoat, but if you do topcoat, you need lamp. It last great and I love different designs a lot. Great stuff!
