Swatches: Sinful Colors Leap Flog

The only TRULY new shade in the new Sinful Colors Study In Style display (this collection also includes the much-loved and hard-to-find Winterberry), I had to buy Leap Flog the moment I saw it at my local Walgreens. (NOTE: starting 7/22 and running through 7/28, Sinful Colors polishes will be on sale at Walgreens for $0.99 each, no coupon required.)

Leap Flog is a mysterious, murky, blue-green-gray. It's a dusty shade with a creme finish, and I can honestly say that I don't have another shade quite like it. In certain lights in looks more green, while in others it looks more blue. Indoors, the gray in this polish seems to come out more, giving it an even dustier feel.

As I mentioned yesterday, there MIGHT be a dupe for Leap Flog in the new Revlon Top Speed color called After Party. This is not surprising given that Revlon owns Sinful Colors, but I just thought it was worth repeating in case you're having a hard time finding Leap Flog in your area.

Let's take a peek:

 Sinful Colors Leap Flog
(retail: $1.99 at Walgreens, 0.5 oz)

I wanted to show you this color in a variety of different lights, so that you could get an idea of how it changes depending on the lighting, time of day, etc. In all of these photos, I applied two coats of Leap Flog, followed by one coat of clear top coat.

The formula on this one was a little thick, but in a good way. Meaning, this could be a one-coater if you didn't wipe down your brush too much (it's completely opaque at one coat). However, if you're a chronic two-coater like me, the thickness of the formula means that you'll half to wipe down your brush on the sides of the bottle a little more than you're probably used to. But the good thing is that it's not so thick that it's goopy, and I haven't experienced any bubbling either.

If you're attracted to blue-greens or shades that have a lot of gray to them, I think this one's a must-have. It's got an industrial feel to it that I tend to like very much--it almost feels like something the characters in George Orwell's 1984 might wear, but not in a Big-Brother-Mind-Control type of way--just in a very utilitarian, futuristic way, I guess is what I'm trying to say.

Have you spotted/purchased Leap Flog yet? If so, how do you like it? If not, is it on your must-have list or are you planning on skipping this one?

    1. Agreed, I just prefer 2 coats if I'm only wearing one coat my nails feel a bit naked!

  4. Very pretty! I haven't found the collection here yet, anxiously awaiting it! How does this color compare to Essie School of Hard Rocks? It looks very similar to me.

    1. I THINK School of Hard Rocks might be a little more teal, but I can't be sure. Impoverished by Polish has a good comparison of Leap Flog to Essie Go Overboard and also China Glaze Exotic Encounters though, which you can see
here. Hope that helps a bit!

    2. I just bought after party today- it is nearly identical to school of hard rocks. Maybe just a smidge lighter. I thought Nicole OPI had a similar shade in "green up your act"- but that is much more green- not near as much much of a teal-feel.

AAND now I'm bummed that I spent money on both the essie & the revlon.
I guess I know what I like, since I buy the same colors over and over.

    1. My thoughts exactly! I really shy away from green, especially in nail polish, but this does 'talk' to me. As an aside, I found the Winterberry and love it. Funny thing, both of these shades were on an old display, Neons, I think. No Case Study display in my Walgreens. Good thing I looked around! ^^

    1. Sooo glad you got that reference! my feelings were so hard to put into words, so I had to go with that analogy! :)

Other readers have said Leap Flog may be a 50 Shades reference. :)

  17. Any suggestions for a ridge filler basecoat to go under this beautiful color?

    1. Sinful Colors makes a Ridgefilling base coat!

    2. I haven't tried the sinful ridge filler, but I think that Gelous is a good one because it's a thicker formula.

  18. This looks alot like Essie School of Hard Rocks! Except it's got a little more shimmer, but Leap Flog looks more creamy to me. But the colors are nearly identical.

  19. I picaked up Leap Flog today (kept thinking I was going to find at least one bottle that said Leap Frog, but no!), and at least in the bottle it does look very similar to Essie School of Hard Rocks, which I have and love. Haven't swatches them side by side yet.

I also spotted another Sinful color that seemed new to me on another new display (can't remember the name!) called Rain Storm. It's a pretty deep grayish blue, but more like a grayish cobalt than a slate blue if that makes sense. Makes me think of fall, and it's very pretty. I'm kind of a sucker for thae grayed-out dusty colors!

    1. Lol!!! :)

I JUST heard about that other new color!! Thanks SO much for the description! Sounds lovely! Did you get it? :)

    2. I did get it, but haven't tried it yet. I couldn't resist!

I don't know if I will wear it until it gets a little cooler, as it really does evoke kind of a grayish-rainy day (but in a good/pretty way if you know what I mean!). It's a 106 degrees today where I live, so a cool, rainy day sounds kind of refreshing!
