Blast from the past: how I paint and clean up my nails

I've been receiving lots of comments and emails lately about how I apply my nail polish, so I thought I'd take a moment to let newer readers know that I actually posted a (horribly grainy) video tutorial a few years ago that tells you exactly how I clean up my manicures.

I hope that answers your questions!

  1. Thank you! I think I have an ELF concealer brush that isn't being used so this will be handy.

  2. just curious, why do you choose not to paint your cuticle?

  3. Thanks for the helpful post, G. And I agree with a comment under the original date: one of my favorite things about that post is getting to hear your voice!

This blog is a virtual treasure trove. One of these days, when I have a boatload of time, I'm going to start at the beginning and read to the present. The demands of my life have prevented me from completing this task already, although I do often surf around for quite a while as guided by the You Might Also Like feature, which I love!!

  4. So are you not supposed to paint all of the way down to the base of your nail? I have always done that and then just cleaned up what is on the skin.

  6. Great video. One thing that I do is painted my entire right hand first (both coats). I am right handed and it is so much easier to paint with my left hand when it's not covered in wet nail polish. This gives me much better control over the brush and helps me not paint the cuticles of my right hand.

  10. Great video! I had bought a bottle of acetone at Sally's and wondered why it never worked the way I hear it should work, and then I learn from your video that it wasn't PURE acetone! The bottle says "acetone " but underneath it says NP remover. So I went back and got a bottle of the pure stuff yesterday. The bottle looks scary, there are so many warnings on it! Lol. I also got the Concealer brush at Kmart and I'm very excited to finally try this method tonight!

  11. I wanted to thank you for the video. The brush I've been using to clean up my cuticles was getting gummy, but after watching your video, I got myself a $1 elf concealer brush, and it's actually working better than the narrow paintbrush. My nails look fantastic and they thank you!
