Review: Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Sunbaked (from the Gucci Westman Escapism Collection)

NOTE: even though this lipgloss was introduced in the Gucci Westman Escapism Collection, I believe that's a new, core collection shade. So if you haven't spotted this display in your area yet, just want until it shows up in the regular wall display (if you'd like to buy it).

I am a lipstick girl. I am a lipstain girl. I am a tinted lip balm girl. But I am not a gloss girl. So when I tell you that I'm IN LOVE with this new Revlon gloss, these are not words to be taken lightly. I think I can count on one hand how many times I have reached for a gloss over a lipstick in my life. So let me tell you that I've been reaching for this gloss so often that you'd think I had bad case of PMS and this was a big bowl of Mint M&Ms. Seriously, ever since the day I bought it, I've been drawn to it like, well, a PMS-y version of myself and Mint M&Ms. Duh.

 Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Sunbaked
(retail: around $7, 0.2 oz)

With all of the beautiful corals, peaches and golds in the Escapism collection, a shade like Sunbaked can get easily overlooked. Well, by SOME people. But you see, I have a bad case of pinky-brown-addiction, and if a drugstore lip color even remotely looks like a Bobbi Brown lip color (The Queen of Pinky-Brown), IT HAS TO BE MINE.

So when I got it home and swiped a little on my hand, I immediately fell in LOVE. And then I thought to myself, "It kind of looks like NARS Dolce Vita!". Well, sort of:

Dolce Vita has more red it in, but I do think they're similar.

After swatching them together, it made me want to bust out a lot of my higher-end pinky-brown lipsticks (I told you, I'm not a gloss girl so I don't have many higher-end pinky-brown glosses), to see if any of them resembled Sunbaked:

While I think that Sunbaked fits the general "pinky-brown" theme well enough (it's a brown with pinkish/rose undertones), I am HAPPY that I don't have anything quite like it. To me, it makes it that much more special.

(This looks far better in person, I assure you)

I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that, in person, this looks and feels like a gloss that cost three-to-four times as much as its retail price. It works for daytime (very work-appropriate) and it also works for nighttime smoky eyes. I mean, I just can't think of a situation where this lip color wouldn't pull a look together (or heck, it often IS my look on days when I'm wearing barely any makeup at all).

It's a good thing that I already really like the texture/flavor/fragrance/staying power of ColorBurst glosses (click here for my full review), because Revlon Sunbaked is officially my new Go-To Lip Color for 2012. I honestly cannot stress to you enough how much I love this color, and I'm SO glad I purchased it the moment I saw it in the Escapism display.

If you're a fan of these type of wearable shades, I highly suggest running out and picking up Sunbaked ASAP. I do not think you'll be disappointed with this one (and if you are, well, sorry! I guess that means more for me!)

  8. I think we're consumer twins! I thought I would love the sparkly white light-saber gloss from the Escapism collection, but this is the one I adore. (Also, ditto for mint M&Ms ;)) On the off chance that we are drawn to similar colors, the other color I've been loving to pieces is Color Club Blue-Ming: it's the brightest turquoise I've come across, and the ultimate color for summer toes IMHO.

  14. Had to laugh when I saw this post today because I feel the exact same way about Sunbaked. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago, and it was love at first swipe. I adore these Revlon glosses, but this baby jumped right to the top of my collection! I'm a pinky-brown girl, too, and this color just butters my toast.

  15. Since Revlon is on sale at CVS, I couldn't resist trying this gloss. As soon as I got home and tried it, it was love! There were only two on the display to start with and I wanted another to keep in my bathroom as well. I made a beeline to CVS early the next morning and scooped up the other one. Thanks for the review!

  19. I just bought Bellini this past weekend and I really like it. It is a creamy pale peach and would look great on top of all the coral lipsticks that are so poular right now. But now I have to go back and look at Sunbaked! It seems like it would be a really good gloss for summer...especially if i get a little tan. And I love, love, love Revlon glosses!
