The Wednesday Question

What's your favorite eyeshadow primer?

I get asked this question all the time, and I never want to give an answer because I honestly am not tied down to one particular eye primer. For a while now I've been loving UDPP in Eden, but in the past I've also had great success with the Palladio primer, various NYX jumbo eye pencils, the CoverGirl Intense Shadow Blast + Primer, and also my Maybelline Color Tattoo. So I don't really have one primer that I favor above all others; I tend to stick to one brand until I run out, and then I usually move on to something new or revisit a past love. How about you?

  1. I love my Two Faced Shadow Insurance. It keeps my shadow in place all day. Plus, the tube lasts forever. Mine has lasted me, I kid you not, two years.

  2. I switch between my UDPP in Original and Sin, and then using ELF shimmering facial whip in spotlight as a base

  3. i never used eye primer before and didnt want to splurge on something i wasnt sure i would like, so i went for ELF eye primer and have stuck with it ever since. it works for me, and i often use it even when im NOT wearing other eye makeup, just to keep my lids from getting oily.

  4. I love NYX HD Eyeshadow Base! It's comparable to UDPP and a fraction of the price at only $7. I think I actually like it more than UDPP!

  5. I use either Urban Decay Primer Potion or E.L.F. Mineral Eyeshadow Primer along with Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy on top if the shadow is sparkly. I just tried Art Deco's primer, and I'm a little leery of using my fingers to get primer out of a pot -- not very sanitary -- plus the one time I tried it, it didn't seem any better than the other primers I use :-(

  6. My latest love has been the NYX HD primer, it reminds me of the UDPP, but at less then half the cost :) But what I'm looking for is a great face primer for oily skin, maybe you could suggest some? Thank-you

    1. Do a search on my blog for Black Radiance primer. It's the only face primer I use and it's IDEAL for oily skin (it contains clay). Hope that helps!

    2. I can vouch for it too! I have oily skin and I love love love the Black Radiance primer-I never would have even though to try it out but G's review was spot-on!

    3. AmandaDF: Yay! I'm SO glad it's working for you, hun! That makes me so happy! :)

MsRosie: You're welcome, hun. Please keep me posted if you try it. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works for you too. Oh, and BTW, if you can't find it in your area, you can order it online at walgreens.com. Hope that helps!

  7. I have only ever used elf, since it is the only brand I can buy locally. Plus it's mega cheap. I have no problem with it's performance. I have to say if maybelline ever puts out a skin tone color tattoo I would buy it in a heartbeat though... I'm actually really surprised they haven't yet.

  8. UDPP, MAC Paint Pots and Maybelline Color Tattoo. I use the UDPP as my ULTIMATE base (if that makes any sense) and add the pots for "color pop" for eyeshadows. Since I have oily skin AHEM... and lids the UDPP does a great top preventing the pots from creasing! -Leslie

  11. I have three go to eye bases; Palladio Herbal Eye Primer, UDPP and Maybelline Colour Tattoo (over primer, of course!), as a coloured base to amp up smokey looks. I wish that Maybelline would release skin toned versions, like the MAC Paint Pots.

  12. I do the same thing each day:

    Step 1: Apply UDPP
Step 2: Apply a MAC paint pot / Maybelline Color Tattoo / MUFE Aqua Cream / Sula Creaseless Cream Shadow
Step 3: Top it with a powder shadow

I wear eyeshadow every day for nearly 18 hours (yes, I work very long days) and I almost never have creasing issues unless I skip a step.

  13. Urband Decay Original is my fave. I thought I like Smashbox, but this UD is less drying.

  14. I'm actually looking for a new primer... UDPP original used to give me awesome 12 hr wear, but now creases on me after 7 hrs :( I tried TFSI and initially it worked better, but now that too is creasing after 7-8 hrs. Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks!

  15. It has to be my MAC Painterly Paintpot. It works perfectly with my NC20 skin tone, I can easily gauge how much I need as opposed to a squeeze top primer. A pot lasts me about a year, and I wear eyeshadow almost every day so it ends up being a great $17 spent.

  16. I rarely use eyeshadow because I'm a blush, highlighter and bronzer type of girl. However, when I do wear eyeshadow, I'll either use ELF primer or MAC pro longwear concealer.

  17. I don't use primer. I must be one of the only people who hates UDPP. It makes my lids, which aren't particularly oily, ultra greasy. Things slide right off if I ever use it. Because of that, I just don't use primer. I don't have problems with my shadows, even with smoky eye looks.

  18. i love the nyx hd eyeshadow primer because a) it's vegan (both the UPDD and the TFSI are not vegan-friendly) and b) it works for my über-oily eyelids. other primers i like include the e.l.f. mineral eyeshadow primer and surprisingly, the e.l.f. cream eyeshadow in light colors like dawn and candlelight.

  19. I have very oily/hooded eyelids so I've tried many, many primers. The NARS primer is currently the only one working for me. I've been using it for awhile and have repurchased it. I used to love TFSI but it stopped working for some reason.

  20. The $1 E.L.F. eyelid primer. It seriously is my favorite, most reliable product EVER. I know that some people have tried it and not liked it, but for me, it legitimately keeps my eyeshadow on all day long, looking the same as it did in the morning when I applied it. Everybody I've recommended it to also loves it! A little is all you need. LOVE it.

  21. I love painterly & UDPP. I will look for the black radiance face primer for the face. I have super oily skin & anything will help.

  22. NYX hands down. I was using udpp BC that's what everyone raved about but never saw the magic. Now NYX, awesome.....and cheaper.

  23. One I tried recently was the Revlon 3D brightener and primer. Two products in one. Gave me staying power (granted I don't have oily lids) and it brightened my dark circles also.

  24. I've been liking Sally Hansen/Carmindy Fast Fix Eye Shadow Base (my little compact has lasted forEVer) and will probably repurchase that and also check out either the E.L.F or NYX next. The Fast Fix is great bc it's almost putty-like in feel, but dries right down to a good powder base. Plus it's a neutral beige tone that covers the blue tint on my eyelids (I have really fair skin). Sometimes I even just use that with no shadow over...it just makes my lids look bright and even. Love it.

  25. On the cheap side ELF $1 primer works great. But too face shadow insurance has just been a favorite for me lately.
