Review: New Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eye Liner

Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eyeliner is one of the many new 2012 products from Milani that I'll be reviewing in the weeks to come. I've already reviewed some of the other new 2012 products, which you can see by clicking here

Everyone knows my love of black felt tip liners at this point and, for me, it just doesn't get any better than the Jordana Fabu Liner. Since Jordana is the sister company of Milani, I had very high hopes for the Eye Tech Extreme, so let's see how it's been working for me!

Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eye Liner in Blackest Black
(retail: $7.49, 0.033 oz)

This liner comes in one shade: Blackest Black.

I've been using this product just about every day for a few weeks now, and one of things that I love about t is the applicator. The tip is so fine and precise:

And just like the Jordana Fabu Liner, the tip is never too firm or stiff (don't you hate it when felt tip applicators are rough and stiff and actually hurt when you run them across your lid?). But also, just like the Fabu Liner, this applicator isn't floppy either (again, don't you hate it when the tip of your liner flops around and makes a mess when you're trying to create a clean line?).

To give you an idea of just how "extreme" the applicator is on this liner, here it is next to the Jordana Fabu Liner:

See how much finer the point is on the Milani pen? What's strange is that I've never felt like the Jordana liner's applicator was exceptionally wide (it really isn't) but compared to the needle-fine tip of the Milani liner, it looks so big, doesn't it?

The photo above was taken after swiping both liners, using a medium amount of pressure. I just wanted to give you an idea of what a "standard" line from each pen looks like. As you can see, the "standard" line from the Milani pen is much thinner. And believe me, if you use less pressure, you can get a razor-thin line, no problem.

So which one do I like better? That's a tough one, but I'm going to have to go with the Jordana Fabu Liner. For me personally, I find that it's really user-friendly and I can basically swipe it on and go. But if you like to have precise application (I'm talking the precision of a surgeon here), then I think you'll probably favor the Milani liner. For me, it just doesn't get more precise.

Both liners provide a very nice, dark black pigment and I find the vibrancy and staying power to be equal. I can apply either liner at 6:00AM and my liner is still bright and vibrant by 6:00PM.

The one thing about the Milani liner that I was a little disappointed with was the smudge factor.  As stated on the packaging, Milani Eye Tech Extreme is waterproof. I think that if you were to submerge your face in water (without touching it), you could lift your face out of the water and, for the most part, this liner would still be intact. However, if you were to rub your eye after you've been crying or something like that, I think this liner might smudge for you. I had an itch on my eyelid one day and after I lightly scratched it, I noticed that my liner was a little smudged, so if you're looking for an extreme waterproof and smudge-proof liner, I'd recommend sticking with the Milani Infinite Eyeliners. Those babies aren't going anywhere (heck, I have a hard time removing them with eye makeup remover).

But as far as the type of smudging or running I get from everyday wear, I've found that the Milani liner is equal to the Jordana liner. Neither liner leaves me with "raccoon eyes" by the end of the day. Once they're on, they're on (unless of course you rub your eyes). Just an FYI, the Jordana liner is not waterproof but it seems to wear just as well as the Milani liner for me.

FINAL VERDICT: If you love extreme precision in your felt-tip liners, you might want to give Milani Eye Tech Extreme a try. I've never owned a liner that's more precise, and I love that the felt tip applicator is not too firm or stiff, yet it's not floppy either. If you're looking for a waterproof liner that doesn't smudge when touched or rubbed, I think you might want to consider the Milani Infinite Eyeliners. However, if you've tried the Jordana FabuLiner and you're happy with the results, then I think you'll like the Milani Eye Tech Extreme as well. In fact, if you find the Jordana liner to yield a thicker line than you prefer, then Milani Eye Tech Extreme might just be a dream-come-true for you.

Have you already tried the new Milani Eye Tech Extreme liner? If so, I'd love to hear if you agree with my assessment!

  1. I agree with your final verdict. And I was happy with my Jordana Fabuliner too until my eyes watered one day and it dissolved, leaving me with ridiculous-looking eyes at work! I have used the new Milani Extreme only twice but it seems much more lasting on my often-watering eyes. I like that I can easily tightline with this as well!

Now I just bought Jordana's Best Lash mascara today...and omg, I like!!!

  2. Ooh, that looks good.
I usually avoid pen liquid liners, because I like to make my lines ultra sharp and it's hard to find a point that's fine enough to do that without feeling like it's gonna slice my eyelid off because it's so hard.
But maybe this one is it.
    Thanks for the great review!

  3. With thr Jordana's price I hoped it would work for me the way it does for you. I purchased one before your first review of the Jordana and while it went on nice the color was gray. The after your review I tried again, still gray. Oh well! Thanks for the info on the Eye Tech Extreme since I was curious about it!

  4. I didn't have any luck with Jordana's liquid eyeliners, unfortunately. I use liquid eyeliner daily for my cat eye look, and so precision and an appropriate amount of product coming out is important. This just was not the case for me and the jordana eyeliners (though I have heard nothing but good things from other people). I'm personally a fan of L'Oreal's lineur (a felt tip applicator that is very foolproof and NOT stiff).

But Milani's eyeliner looks really nice, I'll have to try it!

  5. I had a little issue with the milAni eye tech liner due to my oily eye lids. I end up with racoon eyes by the afternoon. I do not recommend it to people with oily lids.

  8. I really like how you compared this to the other Milani felt tip and the Jordana felt tip. I think I'll hold off on this one until I try the Fabuliner and the Infinite liner first. Thanks again!

  9. I saw this at CVS and I had to get it! I haven't used liquid liner in a long time since my switch to gel liner, so I thought this liner would help me get back into the swing of it. I was right! This liner is absolutely amazing!
