Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters: official information and swatches

 Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters
(retail: $7.49 each, 0.09 oz)

If you caught my original review of the new Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters (I reviewed the shade Red Velvet, which you can see here), you know that I'm in love (be sure to read that review to find out why). In fact, I can't remember the last drugstore lip color collection I was this crazy about. So crazy, in fact, that I went right back to Rite Aid to buy two additional shades immediately after my review of Red Velvet.

I was initially going to show you those two additional shades, but then I actually received three other shades from Revlon recently, so now I can show you FIVE shades (in addition to Red Velvet)! I also received official info including a listing of every shade in the range (a few of you asked if I had that info, so I'm very happy to now be able to share that with you!).

And now, on to the swatches!

Left to right: Brown Sugar, Sugar Plum, Lollipop, Sweet Tart, Strawberry Shortcake

Brown Sugar has the most visible amount of shimmer when looking at it in the tube, but on the lips it is not frosty--the shimmer is visible but it's not over-the-top. For me, this is a very wearable champagne-tan shimmer:

At the risk of sounding dramatic, Sugar Plum rocked my world. Looking at it in the tube, I was scared that this medium-toned mauve might have too much purple it in for my skintone. But no! This is a Your Lips But Better shade that I would describe as a mauve-ish-brownish-berry. If you're a low-key gal who wants beautiful, subtle (but not too subtle) lip color, I think Sugar Plum might be your best best:

Lollipop, lollipop, oh lolli lolli lolli... Sorry, I can't stop singing that song when I wear this color! This is actually one of the shades that I purchased for myself and boy am I glad I stepped out of my comfort zone for this one. I love this bright fuchsia with blue undertones. This and Brown Sugar have the most visible shimmer of the five shades in this post, and Lollipop just makes me...happy:

Sweet Tart was an unexpected surprise. Usually when I see peachy-corals like this, I immediately assume they're going to look too opaque and chalky on my lips. But remember: these are lip butters. They have such a beautiful consistency that makes them glide on the lips and almost appear gel-like. No weird chalkiness, no caking and no settling into fine lines. This is actually one of the very few peachy-corals that work for me. In fact, Sweet Tart is one of those shades that seems to brighten up my entire face when I put it on:

And last but not least, we have Strawberry Shortcake. This is the other shade that I purchased myself (once again, jumping far, far out of my comfort zone!). Again, when I see a shade that looks this light in the tube, I immediately think that it's going to look chalky and strange when applied to my lips. So I was extremely happy to find that, just like Sweet Tart, this color has a gel-like quality to it that prevents it from looking chalky or cakey. I still can't quite pull off light pinks, but this is probably as good as it gets for me. If you love light pink lip colors, I think this one's a must-have:

As we all know, Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters are now available in counter-displays at various Rite Aid locations across the country. I have also heard from readers who have spotted the counter display at both CVS and Walgreens recently, so if you haven't found this collection in your area yet, keep looking! As per the official info from Revlon that I featured at the top of this post, Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters will be available everywhere by January 2012.

Do you own any Revlon ColorBurst Lip Colors? If so, are you as pleased with them as I am? What shades do you own? I'd love to hear from you!

  1. I love Revlon lip colors! Especially their Colorburst line! I can't wait to get my hands on these lovely lip butters. Will these be permanent, or LE?

  2. Clarissa: They're part of the core collection (permanent), not LE. Yay!

  3. Hey just FYI. Body & Soul beauty swatched all 20 shades on her blog:

(obviously I'm unaffiliated and not her)

  4. I hope that they taste better than the Maybelline Baby tinted balms. Those taste good initially and then have a weird petroleum aftertaste.

  8. I was going to get Sugar Plum tonight at Ulta, but it was the one shade that was gone. I wear Cherry Tart every day. I did notice that some of them have subtle shimmer while a few have bolder shimmer, like Peach Parfait. It changes the texture somehow to be more slick. I prefer the ones with no shimmer because they stay on longer for me.

  12. The last thing in the world I need is more lipstick but I am soooo excited to get my mitts on some of these when they arrive on Australian shelves. They look gorgeous!

  13. THANK YOU for putting the name of the lipstick ON the image of the swatch on your lips. Makes it SO MUCH easier! I don't have to scroll up everytime and then count them to see where you're at!

None of the colors really appeals to me though. :/ I'm not good with lipstick and have yet found the right colors for me. T-T And lipstick really dries my lips out, so I stick with lip balm or gloss.

    Thank you for these swatches1

  16. Great post! After doing some returns and exchanges, I have settled on Lollipop and Berry Smoothie for now. Sweet Tarts looks really tempting though! I've also found these at Bed Bath and Beyond for almost $2 less than Rite Aide. I think they were $5.70 or $5.90 there and $7.79 at Rite Aide? Even better if you have one of those Bed Bath coupons that are always floating around.

  19. I have been coveting these ever since your first post on Red Velvet, G.! :-) At first the only place I could find them was Be Bath and Beyond, but I found a display at my local Super Target! I'll be checking out Ulta to see if they have a larger display; I was super surprised to hear there were so many colors, I've only seen 8-10 at most.
Thanks for the great post on these, you enable me and my beauty habits so well! ;-)

  21. I am SO HAPPY these are permanent! I haven't found them in my area yet but I'll be out stalking for them tomorrow. I know I want Cupcake for sure, but the rest I need to see before I can choose. And hopefully (for my wallet's sake) I can catch them on sale!

  22. Love, love, love, LURVE. I have dry skin, and therefore dry lips (UGH), and I have been so impressed with the moisture these give. I am obsessed with the packaging and am completely impressed with the clear top (so you can see the actual product without having to open the tube). I have four of these now: Red Velvet, Peach Parfait, Creme Brulee, & Pink Truffle. Sugar Plum is next!

  23. Jennifer: Actually, these are not lipsticks. They're called Lip Butters for a reason--they feel like a balm on the lips. For my detailed review, click the link in the first paragraph of this post. Hope that helps!

  26. One of the most AMAZING items I've ever encountered! I have 12 of the 20 shades & can't wait to get all of them. This is a "must have" product for any MU lover out there. Thanks NouveauCheap for giving me the early heads up on this item! :)

  27. Finally found them today!

I got Sweet Tart and Lollipop :)

Put on Sweet Tart while I was still parked in the parking lot at Rite Aid. Great staying power and can't believe the hydration/texture!

    Yay!

  30. I really need to get some of these! I like Red Velvet the most!

  31. I have 3 of these so far and I LOVE them. They are moisturizing, pigmented and don't make my lips feel suffocated like every other lip product. I'm very picky about lip stuff but this product is amazing.

  32. @JeweledThumb: Thanks for the heads up!

    @everyone:
Does anyone know if there's a Lip Butter dupe for MAC's Sweetie Lipstick? Sweetie is a medium pink with a hint of purple to it.

  33. I am absolutely, positively in love with these lip butters. They're so creamy and they don't dry out my lips at all. One application is plenty in my opinion, because they have really good pigmentation. I have 8 out of 20: creme brulee, creamsicle, strawberry shortcake, pink truffle, berry smoothie, lollipop, candy apple, and red velvet. I'm still on the hunt for peach parfait and I think this is the only kind of lip colors that I will need for the rest of my life. I hope that they'll continue selling these forever!

  34. I have Strawberry Shortcake. It is super cute!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love these! I have Creamsicle, Gumdrop, Brown sugar, Berry Smoothie and Cupcake. I dont ever use lip stick, because I always find it gets on my teeth, or fades to some weird color that doesn't suit me. I hate reapplying, and my top lip is small, so it always looks so silly. THESE are my go to! I love them. They look incredible. Wouldn't it be nice if they smelt like the names, though? Hahah! Love your review. Thanks

  36. I just bought Sugar Plum (on your advice) at Target, using the $3 coupon that came with the beauty bag, and love it! I also have Pink Truffle, Fig Jam, and Red Velvet, too, but couldn't resist another thanks to that coupon.
