From the Vintage Vault: lipsticks from the 90s

If you're a new reader, the From the Vintage Vault series was created after I discovered a box of old cosmetics from the late 80s, 90s and early 2000s that I wasn't even aware I still had in my possession. So I decided to take this stroll down memory lane and share it with you!

If you'd like to see all nine of my previous From the Vintage Vault posts (including pics of the original Sinful Colors bottles, MAC lipstick tubes and Urban Decay eyeshadow singles) click here.

In this post, I'd like to show you some lip products from the late 1990s/early 2000s:

Oh yes, does anyone remember when Jordana lipsticks looked like this? They looked a lot different in the 90s compared to what they look like today.

In the mid-to-late 90s, frosty white lipsticks were HUGE. I remember blowing through two tubes of Jordana Blue Berry Ice because I loved the flash of violet that ran through this lip color:

Next up, do you remember THIS brand?

If you were a makeup junkie in the 90s, you either owned, or wanted to own a lipstick from Club Monaco. After the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal, Ms. Lewinsky wore Club Monaco  lipstick in Glaze for her first interview with Barbara Walters. If you don't remember, Club Monaco Glaze sold out INSTANTLY at Sephora after the interview aired. To get an idea of just how crazy it was, read this article from March 1999 which describes the Sephora madness at the time.

I did own Glaze, but since it was a gorgeous pinky-brown, I wore it until there was nothing left to scrape from the bottom. But I also owned several other Club Monaco lipsticks including this one:

Beach is a classic late 90s matte nude brown.

And finally, a coconut-scented gloss from Naturistics:

Naturistics was a drugstore brand that was discontinued years ago (the date on this packaging is 2001), but you can still find their products at Big Lot occasionally, as well as ebay.

I cannot believe I never wore this--it's untouched! It still smells like coconut (actually, more like suntan lotion) but the color is so pretty, isn't it?

That's it for this edition of From the Vintage Vault. I hope this brought back some memories for you, and if you remember any of these products, I'd LOVE to hear from you!

  1. OMG...Naturistics!!! Totally forgot about that brand but it certainly brings back memories! I used to buy that stuff at Phar-mor...do you remember that store?!?! And how about Clarion? Do you remember that line and how they had that 'computer,' where you can enter your skintone, eye colour, and so forth. Thank you for doing this post it brings back some great memories!

  2. First, let me tell you how much I love your blog. Thank you for all your hard work.

This post brought back a lot of memories...mainly how I just HAD to have a tube of Vamp from Chanel. It looked terrible on me, but that didn't stop me from wearing it! Wow, how I have grown. lol I guess it was discontinued but brought back in mid-2000s although I can't find it on the Chanel site.

Also, remember Prescriptives? They were sold in every mall and were quite popular at the time. Now they are just sold online I think.

  9. Oh, I miss Phar-mor! Feeling blue...run to Phar-mor and get a 99 cent lipstick to cheer me up!

And wait...Prescriptives went out of business? *goes back under a rock*

I liked Naturistics too. Probably the reason is that these brands were affordable to me when I was younger.

  11. I had that Naturistics gloss and I used it until there was but a shimmer remaining in the corners of the wee box. It was one of those times when I was seduced by packaging but found that what was inside was even better.

  13. Wow! That old tube of Jordana lipstick really brings back memories for me.. I think pretty much all of my lipsticks and liners back in the day were Jordana because I was a broke kid who loved makeup and the price was right. I'm up an hour past my bedtime because I just went back and read the rest of your vintage posts.. sooo awesome! SO many products I totally forgot about. Ah, memories! Thanks for these posts!

  14. That was a fun trip down memory lane! I still have Glaze!!! Haha for some reason it didnt work for me but since it was iconic I kept it! Totally had a ton of Naturistics cosmetics as it was packaged at a plant near where I live and they had an outlet store where you could by everything at ridiculously low prices!!! :)

  16. Naturistics! I adored their lip products - they weren't waxy or sticky like a lot of others in my price range as a young teen. I had a tinted balm called Peaches 'n Vanilla that would probably be a big hit as a nude lip now, but I used to wear it mixed with a browny-pink lipliner. Even my mom said it was a great color. :)

  18. I miss Naturistics! I used to buy their lipglosses all the time at Walmart when I was a kid. They had the best flavors; they tasted like actual fresh fruit, not candy-ish like Lip Smackers. I remember having their strawberry gloss that came in a silver tube that sort of looked like a paint tube. It tasted amazing.
