Essie Demure Vixen (plus a visit from Hannah Pinktana)

Demure Vixen was part of Essie's 2010 Summer Collection, and the minute I saw the first swatch of it, I instantly fell in love. I know I wasn't the only one who fell in love with this little mauve minx--there was lots of buzz about it last summer all over the interwebs. But of course this was long before Essie was available in drugstores, and I didn't think I'd ever get my paws on a bottle. But then one of my dearest girlfriends gave it to me, and I honestly don't know why it's taken me so long to post pics. I guess I was keeping this little girlie to myself!

(retail: $8, 0.5 oz)

The hidden purple shimmer in Demure Vixen (which you can see clearly in the bottle above) is what really gives this polish its name. At first glance, it's demure, but then that shimmer brings out the vixen, big time. Oh what a tease!

In these pics taken with flash, you can see the hidden shimmer a bit better on the nail.

But never one to leave a good thing alone, I thought it might be fun to top Hidden Vixen off with one coat of Wet n Wild Hannah Pinktana. Just to see what would happen:

 Wet n Wild Hannah Pinktana
(retail: $1.99, 0.46 oz)

Excuse my sloppy application but I was in a hurry when I applied this coat of Hannah Pinktana. That said, I think it looks pretty darned gorgeous! Hannah Pinktana by itself requires three coats for good opacity, so I love that only one coat is needed on top of Demure Vixen. I love how it really brings out the purple and you can definitely see the scatted holographic particles, even with just one coat.

I actually don't recall if Essie Demure Vixen is in the core collection displays at CVS/Walgreens/Rite Aid/Target, but I know you can purchase it at Ulta and elsewhere online. Wet n Wild Hannah Pinktana should be available wherever Wet n Wild products are sold in your area.

Do you own Demure Vixen and/or Hannah Pinktana? If so, how do you like to wear them? By themselves, together, or with other polishes?

  3. It is in the core collection display. The only thing is, they've renamed it Demure Vix, rather than Vixen.

  4. Your Demure Vixen seems significantly lighter than mine. Might that be because of reformulation? Or just the camera?

  7. BlushingNoir: Oh I know! I'm so glad WnW kept the tv-oriented names of those polishes when they went from the MegaLast to FastDry formula. :D

thenailaholic: Yay! So glad you love this one too. :)

Stef: Thank you!!! And yeah, that is kind of weird, huh? I wonder why they shortened it?

Yami: No, the pics in this post are VERY close to what I see in person. I think you may be right and perhaps the color changed when they reformulated. This bottle was given to me shortly after the original Summer 2010 collection released.

Jenn: I'm so sorry I forgot to mention that in my post! These pics were after three coats, but I definitely could have stopped at two and been ok with the opacity. I hope that helps!

Kimberly: You should! You should! ;)

  12. Funny-- I usually put Hannah on top of Essie French Affair if its starting to look worn but I don't have time to completely change my mani. So much shimmery colorful happiness for two bucks....
