First Look: Wet n Wild Summer 2011 Go for the Gold Collection

The Go for the Gold collection is the last of the three limited edition offerings that Wet n Wild is bringing us this summer (click here if you missed Mermaid's Cove and here if you missed Inked).

I told myself I wasn't going to do any swatches today but, honestly, I could not help myself! I had to swatch these babies because they were just too pretty to leave untouched!

The very first thing that came to mind when I swatched this eyshadow trio was: DUPE FOR STILA KITTEN! I'm going to have to give that a closer look to confirm (and locate my Stila Kitten) but going just from memory, I'm pretty sure it's a dupe. Also, I'll be going through my MAC eyeshadows to look for dupes too--I know that lovely brown in the middle looks so familiar, and the bronzy-brown on the bottom does as well. My knee-jerk reaction is to say these are dupes of Romp, Mulch, Antiqued or Tempting, but I'll have to investigate and get back to you.

All I know is that I own a ton of gold and brown shades from MAC and these two shades remind me of something I own. They are absolutely gorgeous in person and my swatches don't do them justice but here you go:

(Note: all products in this post were swatched on bare skin without primer)

No sparkle to these shadows--just beautiful satiny shimmer. I'm in L.O.V.E.

Oh this bronzer! I'm not sure I can even find the words to begin to describe how much I love this. If you are medium, fair or pale and you've been looking for a natural-looking, neutral bronzer, you MUST check out Everything Under the Sun. When these colors are swiped together, they create almost a MAC Satin Taupe-ish kind of shade that is so subtle, yet so beautiful. I have never seen anything like it at the drugstore:

This is not a bold bronzer, so again, I think this will work best on those with medium, fair or pale skintones. UPDATE: After wearing this bronzer several times now, I can confirm that there is a gold shimmer that comes out when this is applied to the skin. It's warmer on my face than what you see in these swatches.

The Go for the Gold collection will hit stores Mid-May. The eyeshadow trio retails for $2.99 and the bronzer retails for $2.99 as well.

For more information, read the press release here.

Gold, brown and bronze lovers: what do you think of this collection? Are you excited to see these products in person?

  6. The nail collections didn't interest me at all but these are... MUST HAVES! They both look amazing and I will definitely be stalking my local drugstores for these. These are limited edition right? They don't say limited edition on the packaging itself though? I wish companies didn't make such AMAZING products LE :(

I've never really gravitated towards Wet N Wild eyeshadows because they always seem a little cheap (its probably just the packaging!) but this one just looks too beautiful to pass up!

  15. They both look amazing! I'd love to check out the bronzer especially, since I am light and haven't had much luck in the bronzer dept. I'm so glad to hear they're not too shimmery, I really adore a nice satiny color versus a ton of shimmer, sparkles, or glitter. <3

  17. OMGosh that e/s trio looks EXACTLY like an LE trio they had in a summer collex years ago with the original silver packaging when these first came out, around the same time as their Jewels trios (Sapphire, Onyx, Amethyst, Garnet, etc). Problem was back then, once you took the seal off the packaging you lost the shade names too because they weren't on the back like they are now. If it's the same trio, and I believe it is, that Kitten-ish shade is an awesome dupe. The whole trio is gorgeous. I was bummed they didn't re-release this particular one after that year; believe me I looked!

That summer they also did another LE trio called Twilight Glow (I learned and saved the sticker on that one!) with a goldish-taupe, lighter bronzy-brown and beautiful light sea-green shade. I'll try to get you a pic of both so you can see what I'm talking about, if nobody else remembers them or was able to get them back then. If you see it this time, definitely get it :)

  18. I can't be sure unless I get to see it in person, but all three shades look like exact dupes to Stila's It Girl palette. It has Kitten, a gold color called Lame, and a brownish bronzy color that I can't remember the name of right now. It's an amazing little palette and costs $14. Exact dupes for cheaper would be fantastic! The Spring LE Vanite's never came here, so I'm not sure if we'll get these either. :( Sad.

  23. Woahhh, I'm not really a bronzer girl, but I think I need to give that one a try! Do you think the eyeshadows are potential Urban Decay dupes? I see the swatches, and all I can think about is the Baked summer palette... I might have to skip it just to be safe.

  24. The bronzer is definitely a dupe for the Body Shop's $22 shimmer waves bronzer, which is my fav bronzer. They even look identical which is awesome b/c now I can get it for $3 from W&W :) Thanks, G!

  29. How much can WnW throw at me!!??? Well, I am not going to bemoan it because I can AFFORD it. Do you have any idea how much WnW I have?! LOL, G, I think you might be the only one who can fathom the amount I have and now, the amount I WANT! ;p

  30. How gorgeous! I liked the new nail polish collections too, but these just speak to me. And as a pale girl who hasn't yet found a bronzer that works on me, I may have to grab this one to try it out. Mid-May, you say? *stalks Walgreens*

  31. Has anyone seen these in their local stores yet? I've been hitting two rite aids and a cvs for the last week and I haven't seen them yet.

  32. I've been trying to convince myself that I don't need The Gilded Age trio (I have sooo much eyeshadow!), but after seeing these swatches, I can't argue with myself anymore! They're gorgeous and I need them!!
