Review: Lush limited edition It's Raining Men Shower Gel

My boyfriend Mr. G was recently in Hawaii and since I knew he'd be near a Lush store, I asked him if he could pick up a few things for me (if you're like me and you don't live in a city that has a Lush store, then you know exactly how excited I was for him to get these goodies for me!).

So the first product I want to show you is the LE It's Raining Men Shower Gel, which Lush just released in time for Valentine's Day.

Lush It's Raining Men Shower Gel
retail: $8.95, 3.3 oz

If you're too young to know the origins of the name of this shower gel, It's Raining Men was an incredibly popular song back in the 80s by the group The Weather Girls. It's a super fun, campy, disco type of song that I feel compelled to belt out whenever I hear it!

Whew! OK, back to the shower gel!

In a word, this stuff is DIVINE. According to Lush, the fragrance of this product is the same honey-based fragrance as their very popular Honey I Washed the Kids. It's been many years since I sniffed Honey I Washed the Kids (blame this on the fact that there is not a Lush store in San Diego!), so I can't tell you if they're identical, but all I know is that if you love rich honey-floral types of fragrances, you are probably going to LOVE this.

Over the years, Lush fragrances have always been hit or miss for me. So many of them sound amazing, but then many have disappointed me by being too herbal for my tastes. The Lush website says that It's Raining Men is a toffee-fudge scented fragrance, and this instantly got my attention because I love love love gourmand fragrances.

When I first opened this bottle, my mind didn't immediately go to toffee fudge, but that's not to say that there isn't a rich, candy-like quality to this fragrance. Honestly, this is probably the toughest fragrance I've ever had to try and describe, and nothing that I write here is really going to give you the full experience. I get rich honey, I get soft, watery lotus flower, I get a sweet candy note and SO much more from this fragrance. Seriously, if you love honey-scented fragrances, I think you might fall in love with this one. It's unlike anything I've ever smelled before and I cannot stop using it.

As for the shower gel itself, I find that I only need a tiny amount on my bath pouf and it delivers a rich, creamy lather with bubbles for miles. My skin feels incredibly soft and clean when I use it, and it doesn't feel dry or tight when I'm out of the shower.

As far as shower gels go, this one's pure perfection in my book.  The fact that this is limited edition comes as no surprise to me, since everything I've ever instantly fallen in love with seems to always be limited edition. Just my luck.

I say, if you love rich honey scents, and you're looking to treat yourself this Valentine's Day, you might want to consider It's Raining Men. The fun, campy name, the fragrance and the actual product itself all get five stars from me. My only complaint is that $8.95 is a bit steep for 3.3 oz, but then again, you do only need a small amount for loads of lather, so even the small bottle should last you a while.

Are you a Lush fanatic? Are you tempted to pick up It's Raining Men? Do you already own it? I'd love to hear from you!

  1. I bought a bottle of this myself because I LOVE Honey I Washed the Kids. I am kind of "saving" it though because I only got the medium size ;)

  2. I'm not a huge LUSH girl, figures that I have one about 10 mins away :) Have you tried any of their lip scrubs, the bubblegum and bon bon are yummy smelling! Snow Fairy is a very popular scent in their bath products as well.

  3. I love the honey I washed the kids scent, not a fan of the $9 bar of soap Or expensive bottle of perfume. OHWTO has released some new lush type scents including a HIWTK scent! I was surprised I enjoy that scent since I am not a honey fan. In any case this product is tempting partially because of the name. :)

  7. I really love the HIWTK scent but not the formula of the soap, so this sounds amazing to me, but I just can't justify the price for a shower gel :(
