Adventures in Etsy-land: One Hand Washes the Other review!

It's been a looong time since I've done an Adventures in Etsy-land post, but I'm so excited to bring this feature back because, if you haven't already heard of this Etsy seller, I want to introduce you to One Hand Washes the Other (or OHWTO for short).

I'll freely admit that I'm a bath and body product junkie. If it smells good, looks good and feels good on my skin, it's all over. I MUST have it. I had been following OHWTO on Twitter for a while now, and had always meant to ask the lovely lady behind the name if she wanted to work together on a review of some of her products. So recently I reached out to her and she kindly sent me a package of yummy samples, which I'm going to review for you in a bit.

But before I begin, I want to encourage you to take a look around OHWTO's Etsy shop. The lovely gothic and old-world-inspired packaging, combined with exquisitely made perfume oils, solid perfumes, lip balms, lip tints, whipped sugar scrubs and vegan-friendly soaps are a feast for the eyes (especially those soaps--they are stunning!). Plus, OHWTO's prices are very reasonable with low shipping fees to boot. If you're a lover of hand-made bath and body products, I'm pretty sure you're going to be tempted by these goodies.

And now, on to my review:

As you can see, I was sent a nice assortment of sample-size Solid Scents to try. You can tell by the names that a lot of these are seasonal, which I found terrific because I adore fall scents! I've tested every one of these fragrances and I can confirm that they all have great intensity and staying power on my skin. I sincerely adore them all (Kettle Corn is so realistic I was tempted to eat it!), but the two real stand-outs for me personally are Pomegranate & Oak and Pumpkin Eater.

Note: this is a sample-size solid scent. The full-size product comes in an oval-shaped twist-up tube that you can see here.

To my nose, Pomegranate & Oak is heavier on the pomegranate, but the addition of the oak note really helps to take away the sharpness that many traditional pomegranate scents tend to have. It's warm, sweet and a little bit earthy, and I honestly cannot stop sniffing my wrists when I wear it.

Pumpkin Eater is not a traditional pumpkin scent by any means. I honestly expected to smell that generic, spicy pumpkin fragrance when I opened the lid, but boy was I pleasantly surprised to find a more complex and mature pumpkin-based fragrance! According to OHWTO's Esty listing, this fragrance "smells of mangled pumpkin flesh, tilled earth, and a dash of spiced cider, haunted by an apparition of patchouli." I also pick up a creamy note in this fragrance as well. Whatever it is I'm smelling, all I know is that it's amazing and it's my new favorite scent for fall.

Next up, I received a soap sample:

I'm very impressed that even OHWTO's samples are gorgeous. Look at the color and shimmer to this soap! According to OHWTO's blog, Big Daddy is "an intoxicating blend of Tobacco Blossom, Mandarin, Honey, Rose [and] Caramel..." I would have to agree completely. It's a masculine scent, but it's not headache-inducing and when I used it to wash my hands, I enjoyed the scent that it left behind., and Mr. G went bananas for it. Oh, and by the way, the vegan-friendly formula of this soap is wonderful. I get a nice, rich lather, and it rinses away easily to leave squeaky-clean skin behind.

And finally, we have the Blueberry Lip Butter:

Oooh la la! I love anything blueberry-scented and this is certainly no exception. But not only does this have a yummy blueberry fragrance and flavor, it's one of the creamiest balms I've tried in quite some time. It glides on the lips so effortlessly! And I love that it's packed with all sorts of moisturizing oils. This one's a definite keeper.

I am so delighted with everything I've tried so far from OHWTO. Now the only question is, what do I try next?

Have you purchase anything from OHWTO? If so, what are some of your favorites? I'd love to hear from you!

  1. I absolutely LOVE this shop, and the owner is a true doll. My favorite thing? The Deep Black bar. I actually just ordered 2 more as backup for when I run out :) I have some pretty big skin issues, thanks to allergens from where I live. This soap calms down any inflammations and provides relief. This soap also helps to clear up any breakouts on my face, as well as to really CLEAN my face. It is so amazing. I have yet to do my post on it, but it truly is wonderful, and I am now a lifelong customer of Becca.

By the way, I'm so glad to see you reaching into Etsy. There are a lot of great companies there that deserve the attention :)

  4. I adore OHWTO! Her lip butters are quite literally the *only* balm I have ever found that my extremely sensitive lips like. Even the vaunted Aromaleigh balms never quite worked for me. Everything, and I mean everything, makes my lips peel and dry out. Except OHWTO balms. So I also adore the lip tints, as they're the only lip color that doesn't have issues/doesn't require I layer it with balm. Arlette is my go-to everyday tint.

I also use the Deep Black face soap, and am looking forward to when it comes out in the new creme formulation.

And I've heard rumblings that a lotion might be coming out soon. When that happens, I'm gonna be all over that. ^_^

  5. I have been wanting to try OHWO for the longest. The lip balm sounds amazing! I much prefer independent bath and body brands. I did love Lush but their prices have gotten out of hand. $10 for a small piece of soap, I would rather pay half that for a larger piece with the same if not better quality. Haus of Gloi is my current favorite, they had an etsy now they have their own website. They have some Pumpkin scents up now for a limited time only. They are also releasing their Yule collection this sunday if I am not mistaken. I highly recommend everything from their store.

  9. I'm glad you are reviewing more etsy stores too. I love shopping from small businesses who have wonderful handmade products.

Personally? I love OHWTO. I mean really really love her products! I have what is probably the world's most sensitive skin, yet I have been able to wear every product I have sampled.

For the first time in almost 10 years, I can wear perfume, thanks to the solid scents. No reactions what-so-ever.

Her lippies have replaced my beloved Aromaleigh lip balms. Frida & Arlette live in my purse & my training bag.

I purchased a large number of sample soaps to give to my neighbor who is in a nursing home. The nurses told me that my neighbor shared them, and several of the residents were fighting over them because they smelled so good!!

If you have kids, especially ones who don't always wash their hands or argue with you about cleaning up, I highly suggest the Brainnnnnns Glow in the Dark soaps. I don't have anymore arguments because my daughter loves to wash up & play with those soaps.

I've used both the glycerin & cold pressed soaps, which are wonderful. I also tested the Deep Black creme soap. I am really looking forward to it's release because I will be ordering more. You can read my review of it on my blog.

  12. Yes! I love OHWTO. I'm an etsy perfume junkie and a few of OHWTO's solid scents make my favorite list. Victuals, Barista, Carnivale, Pumpkin Bread - all super super yummy. I'm dying to try Pumpkin Eater but I think I might've missed the boat!
