Review: New Carmex Moisture Plus Tinted Lip Balms

In addition to the new Carmex body products I reviewed a little while ago (click here if you missed that), I was also sent the brand new tinted lip balms for review and I'm so excited to share these with you!

Sheer Peach Tint and Sheer Pink Tint
(retail: $2.99 at Walgreens)

As those of you Carmex fans probably know, the Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balms are like a more "sophisticated" version of the traditional Carmex balm. They come in a sleek, narrow tube with a retractable slant-tip applicator. Also, they're SPF15 and contain Vit. E and aloe for extra moisturization.

Up until recently, Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balms only came in one formula: clear. But Carmex has just released these two tinted versions and, for now, they're available exclusively at Walgreens. You can find them in-store (don't look for them in the regular lip balm section--they will be in an end-cap display) or online here and here.

So my big question whenever I try a new tinted balm is: will the color actually show up on my lips? I'm very pleased to say that YES, these colors definitely show up!

I am extremely impressed by these balms! Not only do the colors show up on my lips, but there is no shimmer (it seems that every tinted balm these days has shimmer in it). I love shimmer-free tinted balms for when I'm in a hurry and I don't have time to be concerned with how the color's going to look when it wears off. These balms just gradually fade on my lips until they're gone. Perfect for a low-maintenance day. Heck, you can even apply these without a mirror, which is always a plus.

Another thing I like about these balms is that you can build for more intensity. One swipe gives me a very sheer hint of color, while a couple more swipes builds up the color and really makes it more visible.

The texture of these balms is exactly like the original clear version. They are more on the slick and shiny end of the lip balm spectrum (not waxy or dull) but the flavor and fragrance are very similar to the original Carmex formula (the one in the yellow pot). So expect that signature "tingle" when you first apply these. I love everything about original Carmex so I love these as well. But if you're sensitive to the original formula, I just want to be sure you know that the flavor and fragrance of these tinted balms are very similar.

All in all, I think these tinted balms are a wonderful new addition to the Carmex family, and I'm seriously impressed with the pigmentation of both shades. Both the pink and peach shades give me just enough color to let me know they're on, and I love them for a light-makeup-day (I think they'd also be ideal for the gym, the beach, or if you play sports).

Have you already spotted these new tinted balms at your local Walgreens? Are you thinking about giving them a whirl? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  2. I had no idea Carmex made tinted Moisture Plus balms! I will have to see if my Wags has them yet.

There is a monthy RR deal on Carmex Moisture Plus at Wags during September. Do you know if the deal works on the tinted ones?

  5. These look great! I love that they're sans-shimmer as well. I'm not too keen on the Carmex scent, but I'll still be picking these up!

  6. They don't sell Carmex Moisture Plus here in Canada. Or not that I know of.. I wanted to try it when I saw it in a magazine but now they make a tinted version?? I have such a big wishlist for my next trip across the borders!

  7. Thanks for this review! I love love love the moisture plus, it may be the best lip balm of all time. I put on a layer of light pink lipstick (with no shimmer) then a layer of moisture plus and it looks so pretty for every day. Now I can ditch the stick and just get the pink tinted balm, yay!

  8. mooosely, I got register rewards back for the tinted lip balms, so you'd think it would work for everyone, right?

The ones at my local Walgreens were actually marked down to around $1.50 (don't remember exact price) and I was still getting $2RR back, so I managed to get a really good deal on it! :) So this past week my sister and I were trying to spend groups of $10 from the Carmex lotion, balm, and the Breathe Right strips they had on Register Rewards. (we each had like $50 in RR to spend!) We managed, though, with our regular cashier laughing at us every day as we wandered around trying to make the most of the money.

  9. I got Register Rewards for these as well. They were on sale for $2 w/ $2 RR back so I bought one, used the $2 RR at another register to buy the other, and then used those RR's to buy a nail polish. =) I love Carmex and these are no exception! I do like the pink better than the peach on me.

  10. I have the pink one. I was pleasantly surprised with the color as I was afraid it would show up colorless or frosty. It looks like a healthy pink on me.

  12. These are AMAZING! My first Carmex purchase in a long time. I got both the Peach and the Pink and the peach is my favorite. Color payoff is very decent on my- my lips are decently pigmented too. Very moisturizing and smooth feeling with a nice healthy color! I'm definitely going to get a backup of the peach with the $4 WAG dollars I earned from purchasing the first two!

  13. I absolutely LOVE these but I can't find them anywhere now that the Walgreen I got them from got rid of the display. Sigh.
