The Wednesday Question

This week's question is comin' to you from my blackberry (which explains the absence of the usual pink question mark). I would love to see your responses to this one so here we go!

Do you use a separate sunscreen on your face or do you rely on the SPF in your moisturizer, foundation, etc.?

Right now, I rely on the SPF50 that's in my Physicians Formula powder foundation. What about you?

  1. I rely on the sunscreen SPF 15 in my Bare Escentuals foundation and SPF 15 in my Cosmedicine Medi-Matte mattifier. If I'm going "makeupless", like to the beach or outdoors, I'll apply a separate facial sunscreen.

  2. I rely on the sunscreen in my moisturizer. I hate layering products in the spring/summer since I have oily, acne-prone skin. Can you do a review on the Physician's Formula foundation? Ive been thinking about getting it but have been reading mixed reviews.

  3. I only put extra sunscreen on my face when I'm going to the beach or doing something that requires more sun block. Usually I stick w/ SPF 15 UVA and UVB in my moisturizer.

  4. i rely on the sunscreen in my liquid and powder foundations. however, i need to switch to a moisturizer with SPF now that my old one's used up. and i need more regular sunscreen too! other wise my neck browns and the rest of me stays white.

  6. What I depend on depends on the weather!
Sunny days with office sitting, just my foundation. Days off with clouds or rain, same thing.
Sunny days off, added sunscreen. I like FACES Pure and Simple

  7. If its sunny and I'm going to be in it I use an SPF sunscreen base (Obagi) and then the SPF that is in my tinted moisturizer is an added protectant. Most days I just rely on the sunscreen already in my tinted moisturizer.

  8. I use the tinted moisturized in the Wet and Wild line that is SPF 15, and I swear has a primer built in, it's THAT awesome!

  9. I have spf in my moisturizer and makeup.

  10. I use Biore skin preservation dual fusion moisturizer + spf 30. It's the best! I would cry if it were ever discontinued.

  11. I depend on my moisturizer's SPF, but if I know I'm going to be in the sun a lot I use a separate sunscreen.

  12. I also have SPF in my moisturizer and make-up. It's only SPF 15, so now I have to think fast what face sunscreen I want to buy. I am leaning towards Aveeno or Neutrogena. But I definitely need a higher SPF now that the weather is getting warmer and the sun is starting to shine.

  13. I use Olay Prox with SPF 30 as my moisturizer, and Bare Escentuals Foundation with SPF 15. I get a terrible rash if I use any one product with a SPF higher than 30. It's some ingredient to which I am allergic. That's great that you can use a SPF 50.

  14. I use both! Sunscreen with SPF 30 underneath foundation with SPF 15+. I'm not worried about skin cancer as I am about premature wrinkles (okay, I'm only 26!).

  15. I use Shiseido SPF 55 since my moisturizer has no SPF in it. I use the Physicians Formula foundation powder as a finishing powder, so that's an extra SPF 50 on top. I wear sunscreen every day since Orange County is almost always sunny (unfortunately lol).

  16. I use Neutrogena Sensitive Skin SPF60 sunscreen, and I always try to wear a balm with SPF on my lips when I'm in the sun. You really should use a separate sunscreen everyday! I want to buy the PF powder foundation so I can use it for mid-day sunscreen touchups.

  17. I always use a separate sunscreen even though my lotion has SPF 30, and my fndn has 15+, just because I'm a little uptight, lol! I already have pretty bad discoloration right smack across the middle of my face [looks like a huge brown butterfly flew into my face and is hanging on! lolol] because when I was younger [I'm 41 now] I figgered that since I'm SE Asian I was more or less immune to any skin problems from sun exposure [even though I had gotten 2 sunburns that blistered, d'oh!], and spent almost an entire year slightly sunburned on my face [running/hiking in the hills around here in Silicon Valley], though at the time it LOOKED like a tan [I could feel it was a little more than 'tan', y'know?]. Damage showed up 7 years later [when I was 34], started off as an oh-so-sexy melasma mustache, then slowly seeped out on my cheeks and spread, bleahhhh...lol
it's FINALLY going away [the mustache is almost completely unnoticeable, YAY!], but I am KA-RAZY vigilant about using ss. keep a stick in my pocket at all times, too. I've learned my lesson the hard way, though I do count myself very lucky to not have developed cancer. Just have to look ugly, but I'd MUCH rather look funky than deal with illness, yikes! lucky I don't look like an old leather purse, either - look Ma, no lines! lol [good genes run in both sides of my family, thanx Ma and Pa! lol]

  18. I normally add my Walgreens sunscreen SPF45 on top of my products because I have not found a moisturizer to my liking that has an SPF30 or more (right now I use the regular Olay Active Hydrating Cream which I love!). Besides my sunscreen do have silicones and I've found it is great for evening out my skin texture b4 applying makeup! The only primer that tops it is my MAC Prep+Prime SPF50 primer because that one controls oils a bit better.

  19. My moisturizer has a SPF and I use mineral makeup that has a SPF rating too. The only time I will do extra is when I know I'm going to be outside for long periods of time. Say, like, if I'm going to a theme park or hang at the beach. Which all is very rarely.

I have fair skin that I baked during the summer when I was a kid. I wish we knew better back then. (mid 70's)

  20. I use Olay Daily Defense SPF 15 moisturizer every day, and apply a higher SPF sunscreen if I'm going to be out in the sun for long periods of time.

Just as a note, it's not a good idea to rely on SPF in powder products - in order to actually get the SPF listed on the package, you would have to apply TONS of powder (more than pretty much anyone would ever use). As tempting as it is not to deal with sunscreen and use SPF powder instead (especially for us oily-skinned gals!), you really do need to use a liquid SPF in order to get good protection :)

  24. I recently read on an article about sun protection, and it said some people rely on the SPF of their makeup, when you really need to apply 7 layers of it to get the true SPF. I always use a SPF 15 moisturizer anyway, so I think I'm okay :P
