Spotted at CVS (TONS of new products by Milani, Sally Hansen, HiP and CoverGirl!)

I get SO excited when I go to my local CVS and spot brand-spanking new products. Pleeeease tell me I'm not alone in my excitement! I hope you enjoy looking at my reports as much as I like posting 'em. If you don't enjoy drugstore reports, please let me know because I love to hear feedback and give you more of what you'd like to see!

That said, here are the things I spotted today and at the end of this post I'll show you what I actually ended up buying!

First we have a new nail polish collection by Sally Hansen called Complete Salon Manicure. I had never even heard of this collection before I saw it today, and I was so flustered that I totally forgot to snap a pic of the entire display. So forgive me because all I've got is close-ups.

Here's a close-up of the top of the display, including the selling points of this new formula:

Hum...so you get a base coat, strengthener, growth treatment, color AND top coat all in ONE bottle? We'll see about that (yes, I did buy some of these and you'll see them at the end of the post).

Here are some pics of the colors in this collection:

Compared to the Hi-Def and other recent Sally Hansen collections, the colors in Salon Manicure are definitely elegant and sophisticated. But there are just enough bold shades to keep the color-lovers interested. There are a lot of cremes in this collection (which I love) but the few shimmers offered are pretty darn gorgeous. No glitters, metallics, duochromes or jellies here, as far as I can tell. I think this collection might appeal to a more "mature" audience (myself included) and those that want some trendy yet still safe-for-work options. Also, what you can't see in this pics, and something I like very much, is HOW these bottles are sitting in the display. The bottles themselves rest at an angle, almost like they're laying down. It's very cool--you just have to see it for yourself. Oh, and the bottles are pretty subtantial, with thick glass at the bottom and the shape of the bottles is cool too. I like how there is a black rubber band around the bottom of each cap (I'm thinking that will help with grip when you're applying color to your nails).

Next we have a new limited edition eye product by Milani:

Milani Crystal Eyez Sparkling Eyeshadow

Am I the only one "oohing" and "aaahing" here? I totally freaked out when I saw these because, in person, the colors are just SO gorgeous and unlike anything I've ever seen before. High-end girls, please tell me if these are a dupe of something from MAC or another line? I can never keep up on high-end makeup so these might be a very obvious dupe that I just don't know about.

I wish my Blackberry camera took better pics, because there's just no way you can see here what's really going on with these little lovelies. So it's a good thing I actually bought one! I'll talk more about these a little later in this post.

Next, I was SO happy to finally see the new CoverGirl Blast stuff in person. I have been waiting for these products to hit store shelves ever since Amber from BeautyJunkiesUnite broke the news to us about them way back in October. That's a loooong time to try and be patient! I mean, these colors were designed by THE Pat McGrath, for crying out loud! How can you NOT be excited about them??

CoverGirl Shineblast Lip Gloss

They've got a special "ShineSculpt" applicator that hugs the lips!

CoverGirl Smoky Shadowblast

Next up, I spotted these new L'Oreal HiP eyeshadow duos:

HiP Studio Secrets Professional Crystal Shadow Duos

OK all you HiP fanatics, are these super new? Have you tried 'em yet? Are they a dupe from something by MAC? Give me the scoop! From what I could tell, the texture of these shadows is very unusual (of course I couldn't pick that up on my camera). It's unlike a standard shimmery shadow and it looks to me like these will be VERY shimmery on the lids. Or at least I hope they will be!

Whew! That's it for the new products I spotted today, but here are close-up pics of the ones I purchased. Reviews to come in another post!

Plum Luck (L), Commander in Chic (R)

I am IN LOVE with these two shades and I cannot wait to paint my toes in Plum Luck and my fingers in Commander in Chic!

FYI, the brush on these is exactly like Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polishes (flat, firm and angled).

Here's a pic from the front:

And here's a pic from the side:

I just wanted to let you know about this in case that brush is a make-or-break deal for you.

And finally, here's a pic of the Milani Crystal Eyez Sparkling Eyeshadow I bought. The shade is "Gorgeous and Glowing" and I swear to you, it's unlike any other eye color I've ever seen:

Do you see that? There's gold shimmer in this AND multi-colored micro-glitter! It's like a nail polish, but for your eyes!

Here are the directions (the darn CVS sticker got in the way but from what I can tell, you can apply two coats of this for more intense color--or at least I think that's what it says at the bottom)

I think it probably says something like, "For extra drama, apply one coat, let it dry and apply another" but I'm not sure because when I rip the label off it will take the paper with it and I'll never be able to read it. :(

Whew! That's it for now...but I will review the eyeshadow and nail polishes soon! In the meantime, let me hear your thoughts! Are you excited about any of these new products? Do you already own any of these?

  1. I am a Beauty Tester for Seventeen Magazine and they recently sent me some goodies to try out, one of the items was the Milani Crystal Eyez eyeshadow, it was a black one. I was not very impressed. It goes on as a very sheer gray with tons of glitter. It creases really easily, so after a while I had a big gray line in my crease. It also faded quickly. I don't wear it as an eyeshadow, but usually put some over black eyeliner. It works well for that, but not for an actual eyeshadow.

I also received one of the Covergirl Smokey eye shadow sticks. I cannot remember the name of the color, but it was a lime-y green on one end, and copper on the other. I LOVE it! I would have never purchased that color for myself in the store since it's so unusual, but the first day I wore it, I got so many compliments.

Those HiP shadows look really nice! I'll have to stop by CVS to take a look at them!

  2. *ooooh-ing and ahhhh-ing*

Don't worry, I am a drugstore makeup junkie mahself, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE LUH-HUH-HUUUUUV the posts!!! I, too, get giddy when checking out new stuff, be it CVS or Walgreens or wherever! HE doesn't do it for me, can't justify the price [sorry to everyone who is a HE MU devotee, I mean no offense, it's JMHO]. Keep on doing what you're doing, cuz it's fantastic!

  4. Wow! I am half-tempted to swing by my CVS on my way into work this morning! I have already bought some of the Sally Hansen polishes - I absolutely loved them. The two colors I bought were Gilty Pleasures (gold) and Pedal to the Metal (Silver). Both were a very intense, almost chrome, frost. The wear was fantastic and ultimately they did a great job for an all-in-one nail polish. I do want to pick up some of the creams, so I'll do that my next time around.

As for the Milani, I am anxious to hear what you think. I instantly gravitated to those on your listing because of the sparkle. Hopefully they wear well, even if as an eyeliner?

The Covergirl products look gorgeous too!

Thank you so much - I think I found some stocking stuffers if my local CVS has these products in store! :)

  6. The Milani kind of reminds me of Urban Decay's cream shadows which are also gel based. These look more sparkly though. Can't wait to see your review of them!

  7. Not so much the UD cream shadows like the previous commenter said, but they make me think of the UD Heavy Metal stuff. I was not a fan of them at all, very gritty and flakey glitter. Hopefully those are better!

  8. Crystal Eyez looks really festive for this upcoming holiday season.

  9. I'm getting the HiP stuff asap. I am a basecoat junkie and there is no way you can "mix in" the base coat. Then It's not a basecoat!

beautifulmonday: Soooo glad you like these types of posts! Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know! xo

Leah: Interesting! Thank you for the dupe alert! Great to know. :)

PB: Thank you! So either way, these might be a dupe of a UD product. I knew they were a dupe of *something* but I am so lame these days when it comes to HE stuff. :( I'll post a review soon! xo

Fabuless Beauty: I totally agree. I am so excited to try this! xo

Meg: lol!! I'm sorry...I just can't help myself. :) xo

Home Spa Goddess: Can't wait to see what you think of these HiP eyeshadows. I was so tempted to get one...now I may have to go back and pick one up (if the Milani product doesn't work, I think I'll exchange it for one of the HiP ones). xo

  13. I stopped by CVS yesterday and I saw these Physicians Formula eye shadows that were really really colorful! Like bright blues and purples and yellows! I thought taking a picture there but I didn't have a camera w/ me... They looked so cool!

  14. I want to try everything! I'm loving the Commander in Chic polish-- it's a wearble shade that I'd probably love. And on top of that, it's like 5 polishes in one. What more could I ask for, right?

I'd want to buy one of the smokey shadow blast to throw in my backpack for a quick pick-me-up. All I need are my fingers and I'd be set. No brushes necessary!

And R, is teal your favorite color? I've noticed that you pick a lot of pretty warm neutrals for eye products but for a burst of color, you almost always wear something turquoise or teal (which by the way is my fave.)

    =)

  15. The SH nail polishes are so gorgeous, and those were the exact 2 colors that caught my eye when I went to CVS! I'm so into purples and greys at the moment. I just ordered Sephora by OPI in Metro Chic a few days ago, and I'm expecting it in the mail. And I just learned that SH Commander in Chic is a dupe for it, according to swatches I've seen online:
    http://www.stephscloset.com/blog/beauty/2009/12/665/the-new-face-of-sally-hansen-salon/

Don't you just hate that? You buy something, then find out you could've gotten a cheaper dupe.

I still want the new SH polishes though, but I think I'll wait for a BOGO sale. They were $7.99 each at the CVS near me, which is kind of steep for a drugstore n/p in my opinion.

  16. If you're in Rite aid again another awesome brand of polish is CQ. I have the shade halo pink. You don't even need to use topcoat with this stuff because it's already got gloss in it.

  17. Gaby: I know, right? I neeed one of those glosses! lol. :)

ndoodles: Hum...I haven't seen any new PF stuff yet. Thanks for the heads-up! Can't wait to see it! :)

Shela: You totally called it, honey! If I want to add a pop of color to my eyes, my default shade is teal. Sometimes I'll use a kelly green (UD Mildew is one of my faves) but most of the time it's teal. lol. Glad we have that in common too! xo

Mimsy: WHAAAAAT? Are you kidding me? Oooh, that is FANTASTIC! Thank you SO much for sharing! After that whole sephora code thing, I was starting to have regrets about not getting Metro Chic b/c soooo many people ordered it. Now I don't need to! YESSS!!! Thank you SO much for taking the time to share that! You ROCK!! (but I do agree--it's expensive for drugstore polish and I'd definitely wait for a BOGO if you can). I'm sorry you already bought Metro Chic but at least you can return it if you want, right? :)

princess azure: I love CQ! In fact, I was just thinking about using my CQ in Shimmering Bark the other day. Thanks for the reminder! xo

  18. Oh yeah, honey, I had a hunch you were a teal fan.

I stopped by The Beauty Experience in Parkway Plaza today and guess what? They had OPI polishes (and a few Nabi and Orly ones) for $3.75 or less! I saw 20+ shades on sale.

And then when I checked out Forever 21 for the LA Girl polishes, they had bowls filled with ~10 shades at $2.80 each so get going if you want to grab a few, girlie!

I seriously need some polish rehab. Poo.

  19. funny how i ran across your site first on google for info before milani or loreal *sigh* lol. i know you always have us covered! you are putting my drugstore paparazzi to shame.. oh and our stores are slow at getting stuff!

  20. Shela: Oooh, thanks so much for the Parkway tip! I generally try to avoid that mall in December (it's such a nightmare!) but now you're tempted me to face the crowds and get those polishes! xo

yummy: OMG, that is too funny!!! Thank you so much for the kind words--you totally made my day. :) xo
